(11) सेवाभावी महात्मा टॉलस्टॉय
‘टॉलस्टॉय केवल एक प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार ही नहीं वरन् एक उच्चकोटिके सन्त भी थे। एक बार वे एक सूखाग्रस्त इलाकेसे निकल रहे थे। भूखे, पीड़ित एवं बेसहारोंको देखकर उनके हृदयमें करुणा उमड़ आयी और उनके पास जो कुछ भी था, उसे उन्होंने जरूरतमन्दोंमें बाँटना प्रारम्भ कर दिया। किसीको उन्होंने पैसे दिये तो किसीको खाना और अन्तमें एक व्यक्तिको उन्होंने अपना कोट और स्वेटर भी उतारकर दे दिया। सब देनेके पश्चात् जब वे आगे बढ़े तो एक दिव्यांग व्यक्ति उनके पास आया। उसे देखकर टॉलस्टॉयकी आँखोंमें आँसू आ गये और वे बोले-‘भाई। तुम्हें देनेको अब मेरे पास कुछ भी नहीं है।’ यह सुनकर उस दिव्यांग व्यक्तिने उन्हें गलेसे लगा लिया और बोला- ‘आप ऐसा न बोलें। आज आपने जो प्रेम दिया है, वह बहुतोंके पास देनेको नहीं है।’
(11) Service-minded Mahatma Tolstoy
Tolstoy was not only a famous litterateur but also a saint of high order. Once he was passing through a drought prone area. Seeing the hungry, suffering and destitute, his heart was filled with compassion and whatever he had, he started distributing it among the needy. To some he gave money, to some food and finally to a person he even took off his coat and sweater. After giving everything, when he went ahead, a disabled person came to him. Seeing him, tears welled up in Tolstoy’s eyes and he said – ‘Brother. I have nothing to give you now.’ Hearing this, the disabled person hugged him and said – ‘You don’t say like that. The love you have given today, is not available to many.
