खाटू श्याम बाबा (बर्बरीक)की कथा

श्याम बाबा की कहानी महाभारत काल से संबंधित है। श्याम बाबा(बर्बरीक) भीम और हिडिम्बा के पौत्र थे। उनके पिता का नाम घटोत्कच और माता का नाम मोरवी(अहिलावती) था। जो कि मूर दैत्य की पुत्री थी। इसलिए श्याम बाबा को मोर्वीनंदन भी कहा जाता है। जब बर्बरीक ने जन्म लिया तो उसके बाल बब्बर शेर की तरह दिखते थे इसलिए घटोत्कच ने अपने पुत्र का नाम बर्बरीक रख दिया।
बर्बरीक बहुत ही तेजस्वी थे। उन्होंने युद्ध कला अपनी माता मोरवी से प्राप्त की। उनकी मां उनकी गुरु थी। उनकी मां ने उन्हें शिक्षा दी थी कि सदैव हारने वाले पक्ष की सहायता करनी चाहिए। इसलिए उनको हारे का सहारा कहा जाता है।

उन्होंने मां आदिशक्ति की बहुत तपस्या की जिसके फलस्वरूप उन्हें तीन बाण प्राप्त हुएं। इसलिए उन्हें तीन बाणधारी भी कहा जाता है। उन्हें एक दिव्य धनुष भी प्राप्त हुआ जो बर्बरीक को तीनों लोकों में विजय प्राप्त करने में समर्थ था।

बर्बरीक को जब कौरवों और पांडवों के मध्य होने वाले युद्ध की सूचना मिली तो वह भी युद्ध में भाग लेने का निर्णय लिया। उन्होंने अपनी मां से आशीर्वाद लिया और अपनी मां से वादा किया कि हारने वाले पक्ष का साथ देगा। इसलिए बर्बरीक नीले घोड़े पर सवार होकर महाभारत युद्ध स्थल पर पहुंचे। नीला घोड़ा उनका वाहन होने के कारण उनको नीले घोड़े पर सवार कहा जाता है।

श्री कृष्ण को जब बर्बरीक की इस प्रतिज्ञा का पता चला तो उन्होंने बर्बरीक की शक्ति की परीक्षा लेने का निश्चय किया। श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक के पास जाकर प्रश्न किया कि तुम मात्र तीन बाण लेकर युद्ध भूमि में आ गए। क्या तीन बाण से भी कोई युद्ध लड़ सकता है ? बर्बरीक कहने लगे कि मेरे तीन बाणों में ही युद्ध जीतने की क्षमता है।

बर्बरीक कहने लगे कि,” मैं पहले बाण उनको चिंहित करेगा जिनकी रक्षा करनी है। दूसरा बाण उनको चिंहित करेगा जिनका वध करना है। तीसरा बाण से वध करने वाले चिंहित योद्धाओं और सेना का वध करके वापिस मेरे तरकश में आ जाएगा।”

बर्बरीक कहने लगे कि उनके यह बाण सम्पूर्ण सेना को नष्ट कर सकते और उनके यह तीर पुनः उनके तरकश में वापस आ जाते हैं।

श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक के बाणों को परखने के लिए कहा कि वह सामने जो पीपल का पेड़ है उसके समस्त पत्तों में छेद करके दिखाएं। बर्बरीक ने अपने बाण को पीपल के पेड़ के पत्तों में छेद करने की आज्ञा दी। बाण सभी पत्तों को भेद कर श्री कृष्ण के पैरों के ईद गिर्द घूमने लगा।

बर्बरीक ने श्री कृष्ण से प्रार्थना की प्रभु आप अपने पैर पीछे कर ले आपके पैरों के नीचे इस पीपल के पेड़ का एक पत्ता है मैंने तीर पीपल के पेड़ के पत्ते सभी को भेदने की आज्ञा दी है इसका एक पत्ता आपके पैरों के नीचे है इसलिए कृपा आप अपना पैर उस पर से हटा लें।

श्री कृष्ण इस बात को जानते थे उन्होंने स्वयं ही पीपल के एक पत्ते को अपने पैरों के नीचे रखा था ताकि वह बर्बरीक के बाण की शक्ति और सामर्थ्य देख सके। बर्बरीक के बाणों की शक्ति देखकर श्री कृष्ण समझ गए कि यह तो युद्ध कुछ ही क्षणों में खत्म करने का सामर्थ्य रखता है। श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक से पूछा कि तुम किस ओर से लड़ोगे।

बर्बरीक ने अपनी मां से किये हुए वादे अनुसार कहा कि,” मैंने युद्ध में जिस भी पक्ष की सेना हारती हुई नजर आएंगी उसका साथ देने का निर्णय लिया है।”

श्री कृष्ण तो अन्तर्यामी थे वह तो युद्ध का परिणाम जानते थे। श्री कृष्ण सोचने लगे कि‌ बर्बरीक के बाण तो कुछ ही क्षणों में युद्ध समाप्त करने की क्षमता रखते हैं।

अगले दिन श्री कृष्ण ब्राह्मण का रूप धारण कर बर्बरीक के पास पहुंचे बर्बरीक से भिक्षा मांगी। श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक से जो भी वह मांगे उसे दान देने का वचन मांगा । जब बर्बरीक ने वचन दे दिया। श्री कृष्ण ने तुरंत बर्बरीक का शीश दान में मांग लिया।

बर्बरीक कहने लगे कि,” मैं आपको वचन अनुसार शीश देने को तैयार हूं लेकिन पहले मुझे आप अपने वास्तविक स्वरूप के दर्शन दे।” इतना सुनते ही #श्रीकृष्ण तुरंत अपने स्वरूप में आ गए। श्री कृष्ण बर्बरीक से कहने लगे कि,” युद्ध के प्रारंभ होने से पहले युद्ध भूमि की पूजा के लिए किसी वीर योद्धा के शीश के दान की जरूरत होती है। श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक को सबसे अधिक वीर योद्धा कहकर उनका उनका शीश दान में मांग लिया।”

बर्बरीक कहने लगे कि,” मैं अपको अपना शीश देने का वचन दे चूका हूं। लेकिन मेरे मैं यह युद्ध अंत तक देखना चाहता हूं। श्री कृष्ण इस बात पर सहमत हो गए और उन्होंने बर्बरीक के शीश को अमृत से सींच कर एक ऊँची पहाड़ी पर रख दिया ताकि बर्बरीक युद्ध देख सके। बर्बरीक का कटा हुआ शीश ने युद्ध को अंत तक देखा और गर्जना करता रहा।”

भगवान श्री #कृष्ण ने श्याम बाबा (बर्बरीक) के बलिदान से प्रसन्न होकर वरदान दिया था कि कलयुग में तुम को मेरे श्याम नाम से जाना जाएगा। ऐसा माना जाता है कि बर्बरीक का शीश खाटू नगर (वर्तमान राज्यस्थान राज्य के सीकर)में दफनाया गया था इसलिए उन्हें #खाटूश्याम नाम से जाना जाता है।

खाटू श्याम जी का जन्मदिन #कार्तिकमास के शुक्ल पक्ष की #देवउठनी एकादशी के दिन बड़े धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है श्रद्धालु श्याम बाबा के दर्शन करने दूर-दूर से पहुंचते हैं।

The story of Shyam Baba is related to the Mahabharata period. Shyam Baba (Barbarik) was the grandson of Bhima and Hidimba. His father’s name was Ghatotkach and mother’s name was Morvi (Ahilavati). Who was the daughter of Moor monster. That’s why Shyam Baba is also called Morvinandan. When Barbarik was born, his hair looked like Babbar lion, so Ghatotkach named his son Barbarik. Barbarik was very bright. He got the art of war from his mother Morvi. His mother was his teacher. His mother taught him that one should always help the losing side. This is why He is called the support of the loser.

He did a lot of penance to Maa Adishakti, as a result of which he got three arrows. That’s why they are also called three arrows. He also received a divine bow which enabled Barbarik to conquer all the three worlds.

When Barbarik came to know about the war between Kauravas and Pandavas, he also decided to participate in the war. He took blessings from his mother and promised his mother that he would support the losing side. That’s why Barbarik reached the Mahabharata war site riding on a blue horse. Because of the blue horse being his vehicle, he is called the rider of the blue horse.

When Shri Krishna came to know about this promise of Barbarik, he decided to test Barbarik’s power. Shri Krishna went to Barbarik and asked that you came to the battlefield with only three arrows. Can anyone fight a war even with three arrows? Barbarik started saying that only my three arrows have the ability to win the war.

Barbarik started saying,” I will mark the first arrow those who are to be protected. The second arrow will mark those who are to be killed. The third arrow will return to my quiver after killing the warriors and army marked by the slaughter.”

Barbarik started saying that these arrows of his can destroy the entire army and these arrows of his return back to his quiver.

To test the arrows of Barbarik, Shri Krishna asked him to show holes in all the leaves of the Peepal tree in front of him. Barbarik ordered his arrow to pierce the leaves of the Peepal tree. The arrow penetrated all the leaves and started revolving around the feet of Shri Krishna.

Barbarik prayed to Shri Krishna, Lord, take your feet back, there is a leaf of this Peepal tree under your feet, I have ordered the arrows to pierce the leaves of the Peepal tree, one of these leaves is under your feet, so please Take your foot off it.

Shri Krishna knew this, he himself placed a peepal leaf under his feet so that he could see the power and strength of Barbarik’s arrow. Seeing the power of Barbarik’s arrows, Shri Krishna understood that it has the ability to end the war in a few moments. Shri Krishna asked Barbarik from which side will you fight.

According to the promise made to his mother, Barbarik said,” I have decided to support whichever side’s army is seen losing in the war.”

Shri Krishna was intuitive, he knew the result of the war. Shri Krishna started thinking that Barbarik’s arrows have the ability to end the war in a few moments.

The next day Shri Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and reached Barbarik and asked for alms from Barbarik. Shri Krishna asked Barbarik to promise to donate whatever he asked for. When Barbarik gave the promise. Shri Krishna immediately asked for Barbarik’s head in charity.

Barbarik started saying,” I am ready to give you the head as promised, but first you show me your real form.” On hearing this, #ShriKrishna immediately came in his form. Shri Krishna said to Barbarik that,” Before the start of the war, the donation of the head of a brave warrior is needed for the worship of the battlefield. Shri Krishna called Barbarik the most heroic warrior and asked for his head in donation. “

Barbarik started saying,” I have promised to give you my head. But I want to see this war till the end. Shri Krishna agreed to this and sprinkled Barbarik’s head with nectar and placed it on a high hill. Kept it so that Barbaric could see the war. The severed head of Barbarik saw the war till the end and kept roaring.

Pleased with the sacrifice of Shyam Baba (Barbarik), Lord Shri #Krishna had given a boon that in Kalyug you will be known by my name Shyam. It is believed that Barbarik’s head was buried in Khatu Nagar (Sikar of present day Rajasthan state) hence he is known as Khatushyam.
