एक बार दो राज्यों के बीच युद्ध की तैयारियां चल रही थीं। दोनों के शासक एक प्रसिद्ध संत के भक्त थे।

वे अपनी-अपनी विजय का आशीर्वाद मांगने के लिए अलग-अलग समय पर उनके पास पहुंचे।

पहले शासक को आशीर्वाद देते हुए संत बोले, ‘तुम्हारी विजय निश्चित है।’
.
दूसरे शासक को उन्होंने कहा, ‘तुम्हारी विजय संदिग्ध है।’
.
दूसरा शासक संत की यह बात सुनकर चला आया, किंतु उसने हार नहीं मानी और अपने सेनापति से कहा…
.
‘हमें मेहनत और पुरुषार्थ पर विश्वास करना चाहिए। इसलिए हमें जोर-शोर से तैयारी करनी होगी।
.
दिन-रात एक करन युद्ध की बारीकियां सीखनी होंगी। अपनी जान तक को झोंकने के लिए तैयार रहना होगा।’
.
इधर पहले शासक की प्रसन्नता का ठिकाना न था। उसने अपनी विजय निश्चित जान अपना सारा ध्यान आमोद-प्रमोद व नृत्य-संगीत में लगा दिया।

उसके सैनिक भी रंगरलियां मनाने में लग गए। निश्चित दिन युद्ध आरंभ हो गया।
.
जिस शासक को विजय का आशीर्वाद था, उसे कोई चिंता ही न थी। उसके सैनिकों ने भी युद्ध का अभ्यास नहीं किया था।
.
दूसरी ओर जिस शासक की विजय संदिग्ध बताई गई थी, उसने व उसके सैनिकों ने दिन-रात एक कर युद्ध की अनेक बारीकियां जान ली थीं।
.
उन्होंने युद्ध में इन्हीं बारीकियों का प्रयोग किया और कुछ ही देर बाद पहले शासक की सेना को परास्त कर दिया।

अपनी हार पर पहला शासक बौखला गया और संत के पास जाकर बोला, ‘महाराज, आपकी वाणी में कोई दम नहीं है। आप गलत भविष्यवाणी करते हैं।’
.
उसकी बात सुनकर संत मुस्कराते हुए बोले, ‘पुत्र, इतना बौखलाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है।
.
तुम्हारी विजय निश्चित थी, किंतु उसके लिए मेहनत और पुरुषार्थ भी तो जरूरी था।
.
भाग्य भी हमेशा कर्मरत और पुरुषार्थी मनुष्यों का साथ देता है और उसने दिया भी है, तभी तो वह शासक जीत गया जिसकी पराजय निश्चित थी।’

संत की बात सुनकर पराजित शासक लज्जित हो गया और संत से क्षमा मांगकर वापस चला आया। जय जय श्री राधे
