आज माँ गंगा सप्तमी पर्व है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार आज ही के दिन अर्थात बैशाख मास शुक्ल पक्ष की सप्तमी तिथि को ही गंगा जी स्वर्ग लोक से भगवान शिव शंकर की जटाओं में पहुंची थी इसलिए इस दिन को माँ गंगा प्राकट्योत्सव अथवा माँ गंगा सप्तमी के रूप में मनाया जाता है। जिस दिन गंगा जी की उत्पत्ति हुई वह दिन गंगा जन्मोत्सव (वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमी) और जिस दिन गंगाजी भगवान शंकर की जटाओं से पृथ्वी पर अवतरित 💦 हुईं वह दिन ‘गंगा दशहरा’ (ज्येष्ठ शुक्ल दशमी) के नाम से जाना जाता है इस दिन मां गंगा का पूजन 🪔 किया जाता है।

गंगा सप्तमी के दिन गंगा पूजन एवं स्नान से रिद्धि-सिद्धि, यश-सम्मान 🌟 की प्राप्ति होती है तथा समस्त पापों का क्षय होता है। मान्यता है कि इस दिन माँ गंगा पूजन से मांगलिक दोष 🛑 से ग्रसित जातकों को विशेष लाभ प्राप्त होता है। विधिविधान से माँ गंगा पूजन करना अमोघ फलदायक होता है। पुराणों 📚 के अनुसार गंगाजी भगवान विष्णु 🔆 के अँगूठे से निकली हैं, जिनका पृथ्वी पर अवतरण भगीरथ मुनि के प्रयास से कपिल मुनि के शाप द्वारा भस्मीकृत 🔥 हुए राजा सगर के 60,000 पुत्रों की अस्थियों का उद्धार करने के लिए हुआ था तब उनके उद्धार के लिए राजा सगर के वंशज भगीरथ ने घोर तपस्या 🙏🏻 कर माता गंगा को प्रसन्न किया और धरती पर लेकर आए। माँ गंगा के स्पर्श से ही सगर के 60 हजार पुत्रों का उद्धार संभव हो सका इसी कारण माता गंगा का दूसरा नाम भागीरथी पड़ा। गंगाजल 💧 को अत्यंत पवित्र समझा जाता है तथा समस्त संस्कारों में उसका होना आवश्यक माना गया है। गंगाजल को अमृत 💫 समान माना गया है। अनेक पर्वों तथा उत्सवों का गंगा जी से सीधा संबंध है। मकर संक्राति 🌞, कुंभ तथा गंगा दशहरा के समय गंगा जी में स्नान, दान एवं दर्शन करना महत्त्वपूर्ण समझा माना गया है। यदि गंगा स्नान को न भी जा पायें तो घर में ही गंगाजल💦की कुछ बूँदें जल में मिला कर “हर हर गंगे” के जाप के साथ स्नान का लाभ उठाया जा सकता है।

Today is Maa Ganga Saptami festival. According to the scriptures, on this day itself i.e. on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Baisakh, Ganga ji reached from heaven in the locks of Lord Shiva Shankar, hence this day is celebrated as Maa Ganga Prakatyotsav or Maa Ganga Saptami. The day Ganga ji was born is known as Ganga Janmotsav (Vaishakh Shukla Saptami) and the day Gangaji descended on earth from Lord Shankar’s hair 💦 that day is known as ‘Ganga Dussehra’ (Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami). Ganga is worshipped.

By worshiping and bathing in Ganga on the day of Ganga Saptami, Riddhi-Siddhi, fame-honor 🌟 are attained and all sins are destroyed. It is believed that on this day the people suffering from Manglik Dosha get special benefits by worshiping Mother Ganga. Worshiping Maa Ganga according to the rules and regulations is extremely fruitful. According to the Puranas, Ganga originated from the thumb of Lord Vishnu, who had descended on earth to save the ashes of 60,000 sons of King Sagara, who had been incinerated by the curse of Kapil Muni on the efforts of Bhagirath Muni. Bhagirath, a descendant of King Sagar, pleased Mother Ganga by doing severe penance and brought her to earth. Salvation of 60 thousand sons of Sagar was possible only by the touch of Mother Ganga, that is why the second name of Mother Ganga was Bhagirathi. Gangajal 💧 is considered very sacred and it is considered necessary to have it in all rituals. Gangajal has been considered like nectar. Many festivals and festivals have a direct relation with Ganga ji. During Makar Sankranti 🌞, Kumbh and Ganga Dussehra, bathing, donating and visiting Ganga ji is considered important. Even if Ganga is not able to go to bath, the benefits of bathing can be availed by adding a few drops of Gangajal 💦 in the water and chanting “Har Har Ganga”.
