शारदीय नवरात्रों के समापन पर विजयादशमी का पर्व मनुष्य को उसकी बुराइयों पर विजय प्राप्त करने की प्रेरणा देता है। नौ दिन तक व्रत-उपवास, सूक्ष्म व स्थूल कर्मेंद्रियों की शुचिता और आत्म- अनुशासन के माध्यम से विषय- विकारों पर विजय प्राप्ति के उपलक्ष्य में विजयादशमी का आयोजन स्वाभाविक उत्सव बन जाता है।
हर साल हम रावण, कुंभकर्ण व मेघनाद के पुतलों का दहन करके अपने भीतर रमण करने वाले राम रूपी चैतन्य आत्मा को सहेजने का संकल्प लेते हैं। किंतु हर बार हमारे अंत:करण का एक कोना पारस्परिक- सद्भाव, सहिष्णुता और क्षमाशीलता से वंचित रह जाता है। फिर कोई न कोई बुराई हमारे भीतर दशानन की भांति नया आकार प्रकार व स्वरूप ले लेती है और अंतर्मन में इन दशानन रूपी विषय-विकारों से पुन: संघर्ष शुरू हो जाता है। इसलिए दशहरा मनाने की परंपरा जारी है।
वास्तव में विजयादशमी एक ऐसे “मर्यादित पौरुष” का उत्सव है जो समाज में व्याप्त बुराइयों का प्रतिरोध करे, जो निर्बल को संबल दे, जो त्याग व करुणा को जीवंत आधार प्रदान करें..अतः आइए हम सब विजयदशमी पर्व का यथार्थ समझते हुए इस विजय पर्व को हर्ष और उल्लास से मनाए और सौभाग्य से प्राप्त मानव जीवन के लक्ष्य को मूर्त रूप दें।

The festival of Vijayadashami at the end of Shardiya Navratri inspires man to overcome his evils. Organizing Vijayadashami becomes a natural festival to commemorate the victory over sensual disorders through fasting for nine days, purity of subtle and gross senses and self-discipline.
Every year we take a pledge to save the living soul of Ram who rejoices within us by burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad. But every time a corner of our conscience remains deprived of mutual harmony, tolerance and forgiveness. Then some or the other evil takes a new shape and form within us like Dashanan and the struggle with these subjective disorders in the form of Dashanan starts again in the inner mind. Therefore the tradition of celebrating Dussehra continues.
In reality, Vijayadashami is a celebration of such a “manly man” who resists the evils prevalent in the society, who gives strength to the weak, who provides a living basis to sacrifice and compassion… hence, let us all understand the reality of Vijayadashami festival and celebrate this victory. Celebrate the festival with joy and happiness and realize the goal of human life achieved by good fortune.
