हनुमान जन्मोत्सव एक हिन्दू पर्व है। यह चैत्र माह की पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन हनुमानजी का जन्म हुआ माना जाता है।
कथानुसार समुद्रमन्थन के पश्चात शिव जी ने भगवान विष्णु का मोहिनी रूप देखने की इच्छा प्रकट की, जो उन्होनें देवताओं और असुरों को दिखाया था। उनका वह आकर्षक रूप देखकर वह कामातुर हो गए। और उन्होंने अपना वीर्यपात कर दिया। वायुदेव ने शिव जी के बीज को वानर राजा केसरी की पत्नी अंजना के गर्भ में प्रविष्ट कर दिया। और इस तरह अंजना के गर्भ से वानर रूप हनुमान का जन्म हुआ। उन्हें शिव का ११वाँ रूद्र अवतार माना जाता है।
इन्द्र के वज्र से हनुमानजी की ठुड्डी (संस्कृत में हनु) टूट गई थी। इसलिये उनको हनुमान का नाम दिया गया। इसके अलावा ये अनेक नामों से प्रसिद्ध है जैसे बजरंग बली, मारुति, अंजनि सुत, पवनपुत्र, संकटमोचन, केसरीनन्दन, महावीर, कपीश, शंकर सुवन आदि।
हनुमान जन्मोत्सव को लोग हनुमान मन्दिर में दर्शन हेतु जाते है। कुछ लोग व्रत भी धारण कर बड़ी उत्सुकता और जोश के साथ समर्पित होकर इनकी पूजा करते है। चूँकि यह कहा जाता है कि ये बाल ब्रह्मचारी थे इसलिए इन्हे जनेऊ भी पहनाई जाती है। हनुमानजी की मूर्तियों पर सिन्दूर और चांदी का वर्क चढाने की परम्परा है।
कहा जाता है राम की लम्बी उम्र के लिए एक बार हनुमान जी अपने पूरे शरीर पर सिन्दूर चढ़ा लिया था और इसी कारण उन्हें और उनके भक्तो को सिन्दूर चढ़ाना बहुत अच्छा लगता है जिसे चोला कहते है।
संध्या के समय दक्षिण मुखी हनुमान मूर्ति के सामने शुद्ध होकर मन्त्र जाप करने को अत्यन्त महत्त्व दिया जाता है। हनुमान जन्मोत्सव पर रामचरितमानस के सुन्दरकाण्ड पाठ को पढना भी हनुमानजी को प्रसन्न करता है।
सभी मन्दिरो में इस दिन तुलसीदास कृत रामचरितमानस एवं हनुमान चालीसा का पाठ होता है। जगह-जगह भण्डारे आयोजित किये जाते है।
तमिलानाडु व केरल में हनुमान जन्मोत्सव मार्गशीर्ष माह की अमावस्या को तथा उड़ीसा में वैशाख महीने के पहले दिन मनाई जाती है। वहीं कर्नाटक व आंध्र प्रदेश में चैत्र पूर्णिमा से लेकर वैशाख महीने के १०वें दिन तक यह त्योहार मनाया जाता है।
हनुमत् जन्मोत्सव के दिन हनुमानजी को बजरंगबाण का पाठ करके प्रसन्न किया जा सकता है।

परकृत यंत्र मंत्र नहीं त्रासे।।
भैरवादि सुर करै मिताई।

अल्प-मृत्यु ग्रह दोष नसाई।।
आवृत ग्यारह प्रतिदिन जापै।
ताकी छांह काल नहिं चापै।।
दै गूगुल की धूप हमेशा।
करै पाठ तन मिटै कलेषा।।
यह बजरंग बाण जेहि मारे।
ताहि कहौ फिर कौन उबारे।।
शत्रु समूह मिटै सब आपै।
देखत ताहि सुरासुर कांपै।।
तेज प्रताप बुद्धि अधिकाई।
रहै सदा कपिराज सहाई।।
यह बजरंग बाण जो जापैं।
तासों भूत-प्रेत सब कापैं।।
धूप देय जो जपै हमेसा।
ताके तन नहिं रहै कलेसा।।
दोहा-
प्रेम प्रतीतिहिं कपि भजै, सदा धरैं उर ध्यान।।
तेहि के कारज तुरत ही, सिद्ध करैं हनुमान।।
।। इस प्रकार श्रीगोसाई तुलसीदासजी कृत श्रीहनुमंत बजरंगबाण समाप्त हुआ ।।

Hanuman Janmotsav is a Hindu festival. It is celebrated on the full moon day of Chaitra month. Hanumanji is believed to be born on this day.
According to the story, after the churning of the ocean, Lord Shiva expressed his desire to see the Mohini form of Lord Vishnu, which he had shown to the gods and demons. Seeing her attractive appearance he became lustful. And he ejaculated. Vayudev inserted Lord Shiva’s seed into the womb of Anjana, wife of monkey king Kesari. And thus the monkey form Hanuman was born from Anjana’s womb. He is considered to be the 11th Rudra incarnation of Shiva.
Hanumanji’s chin (Hanu in Sanskrit) was broken by Indra’s thunderbolt. That’s why he was given the name Hanuman. Apart from this, it is famous by many names like Bajrang Bali, Maruti, Anjani Sut, Pawanputra, Sankatmochan, Kesarinandan, Mahavir, Kapish, Shankar Suvan etc.
On Hanuman Janmotsav, people go to Hanuman temple for darshan. Some people also observe fast and worship him with great eagerness and enthusiasm. Since it is said that this child was celibate, hence he is also made to wear sacred thread. There is a tradition of applying vermillion and silver work on the idols of Hanumanji.
It is said that for the long life of Ram, Hanuman ji had once applied vermillion on his entire body and that is why he and his devotees like to apply vermillion which is called Chola.
In the evening, utmost importance is given to purifying oneself and chanting mantras in front of the south facing Hanuman idol. Reading Sunderkand chapter of Ramcharitmanas on Hanuman Janmotsav also pleases Hanumanji.
Ramcharitmanas and Hanuman Chalisa written by Tulsidas are recited in all the temples on this day. Bhandaras are organized at various places.
In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated on the new moon day of Margashirsha month and in Orissa on the first day of Vaishakh month. Whereas in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, this festival is celebrated from Chaitra Purnima to the 10th day of Vaishakh month.
On the day of Hanumat Janmotsav, Hanumanji can be pleased by reciting Bajrangbaan.
