बहुत समय पहले की बात है, एक बार भारत सरकार ने बाँध बनाने का काम इंग्लैंड की कम्पनी को दिया था। बाँध बनाने का काम सफलता पूर्वक लगभग तैयार हो चुका था, सिर्फ थोडा काम ही बाकी था। परीक्षण का दौर भी चल रहा था कि, एक रात अचानक ही मूसलाधार वर्षा होने लगी, जो रुकने का नाम ही नहीं ले रही थी।
इस कारण से बाँध का जल का स्तर बढना शुरु हो गया था और बाँध अभी पूरे तरह से मजबूत भी नहीं हुआ था। बाँध पर प्राकृतिक खतरा देखकर, अग्रेज इंजीनियर परेशान हो रहा था और सोच रहा था कि बाँध अगर टूट गया तो मुझे जेल हो जायेगी और मेरे देश की बदनामी होगी आदि आदि। रात हो गई बारिश रुक ही नहीं रही थी और बाँध से पानी रिसने लगा।
सभी मजदूर जो भारतीय थे बाँध के निकट बनी अपनी अस्थायी झोपड़ियों मे चले गये। चारो तरफ पानी ही पानी अंधेरा और कीचड़, अंग्रेज इंजीनियर बेचैनी से इधर – उधर अहसहाय भटक रहा था, जब कुछ समझ नहीं आया तो वह उन्हीं मजदूरों की झोपड़ियों की तरफ गया। वहां उसने देखा कि एक मजदूर परिवार तस्वीर के आगे दीया रखकर कुछ गा रहा हैं। अंग्रेज इंजीनियर ने उनसे उस समय की पारिस्थिति का जिक्र किया, और पूछा कि तुम इस तस्वीर के सामने बैठ कर क्या कर रहे हो।
उस मजदूर परिवार ने बताया कि वह सब अपने भगवान श्री राम सीता एवं लक्ष्मण जी की पूजा कर रहे हैं और आप भी इन्हीं राम को, राम राम राम, कहकर पुकारो यही आपकी मदद कर सकते हैं। अंग्रेज इंजीनियर ने कहा कि बाँध कभी भी टूट सकता है, मजदूरों ने कहा हम तो प्रार्थना कर हरे हैं, तुम भी कर लो, अब तो हमारे राम ही हमारी रक्षा करेंगे। अंग्रेज इंजीनियर लाचार सा हो मन में राम राम राम राम बोलता हुआ रक्षा करो मेरी लाज रख लो कहता, अपनी बरबादी निश्चित जानकर बाँध की दीवार के ऊपर यह सोच कर खडा हो गया, कि मरना तो है ही बाँध के साथ पानी मे डूबकर मर जाऊं तो कुछ लाज बच जायेगी।
इतने मे ही अंग्रेज इंजीनियर ने नीचे देखा कि बाँध की दिवार के पास दो बच्चे बांध की मरम्मत करने लगे हुये हैं। उसने उन बच्चो को अवाज लगाई कि वहां से बाहर आ जाओ नहीं तो मर जाओगे, परन्तु वह दोनों बालक मिट्टी का लेप लेकर बांध से पानी रिसने की जगह पर लगाते रहे। वह इंजीनियर दौड कर मजदूरों के पास पहुंचा और उसने वह तसवीर फिर से देखी और कहा यह दोनों धनुष धारी, धनुष लिये बाँध की दिवार पर मिट्टी लगाकर रिसते हुये पानी को रोक रहे हैं।
परन्तु , जब वहां मजदूर पहुचें तो उनको कोई बालक नजर नहीं आये, अंग्रेज इंजीनियर सभी को कहता रहा कि दोनों वहां पर धनुष लिये खडे हैं, देखो यहीं तो खडे हैं। परन्तु किसी को भी भगवान नजर नहीं आये, मजदूर समझ गये कि आज बाँध की रक्षा स्वयं भगवान ने ही आकर की है। धन्य है यह अंग्रेज इंजीनियर जिसको भगवान के दर्शन हुये, सब अंग्रेज इंजीनियर के पैरों में दंडवत हो कर प्रणाम करने लगे।
अंग्रेज इंजीनियर के दिमाग पर इस घटना का इतना प्रभाव पडा़ कि उसने अपने देश की शान शौकत भरी जिन्दगी का त्याग कर दिया और हिन्दु धर्म अपना कर संन्यासी बन गया और सन्यासी जीवन के सभी कर्तव्यों को निभाया। भगवान श्रीराम के चरणों में अपना पूरा जीवन अयोध्या मे रह कर सर्मपित कर दिया।
इस कथा का मर्म है कि भगवान को सच्चे भाव के साथ पुकारा जाये और मान लिया जाये कि जो भी करेंगे वह ही करेंगे, तो भगवान अपने भक्तों की रक्षा के लिये स्वयं चलकर आ जाते हैं।

It was a long time ago, once the Government of India had given the work of building a dam to an English company. The work of building the dam was almost ready successfully, only a little work was left. The testing phase was also going on that one night suddenly it started raining heavily, which was not taking the name of stopping.
Because of this the water level of the dam had started rising and the dam was not yet fully strengthened. Seeing the natural danger on the dam, the English engineer was getting worried and was thinking that if the dam breaks down, I will be jailed and my country will be defamed etc etc. It was night, the rain was not stopping and water started seeping from the dam.
All the laborers who were Indians went to their temporary huts built near the dam. Water, water, darkness and mud all around, the English engineer was wandering here and there helplessly, when he could not understand anything, he went towards the same laborers’ huts. There he saw that a laborer’s family was singing something by placing a lamp in front of the picture. The English engineer mentioned to him the environment of that time, and asked what are you doing sitting in front of this picture.
That laborer’s family told that they all are worshiping their Lord Shri Ram, Sita and Lakshman ji and you too can help by calling this Ram, Ram Ram Ram. The English engineer said that the dam can break anytime, the laborers said that we are helpless after praying, you also do it, now only our Ram will protect us. The English engineer was like a helpless person saying Ram Ram Ram Ram in his mind, protect me, keep my shame, knowing that his destruction is sure, he stood on the wall of the dam thinking that he has to die, let him die by drowning in the water along with the dam. So some shame will be saved.
Meanwhile, the English engineer looked down that two children were busy repairing the dam near the wall of the dam. He called out to those children to come out from there or else you will die, but both the children took mud paste and applied it on the place where the water seeped from the dam. The engineer ran to the laborers and saw that picture again and said that these two men with bows are stopping the seeping water by putting mud on the wall of the dam with bows.
But, when the laborers reached there, they did not see any child, the English engineer kept telling everyone that both of them are standing there with bows, look here they are standing. But no one could see God, the laborers understood that today God Himself has come to protect the dam. Blessed is this English engineer who got the darshan of God, everyone started bowing down at the feet of the English engineer.
This incident had such an impact on the mind of the English engineer that he renounced the life full of pride in his country and adopted Hindu religion and became a monk and performed all the duties of a monk’s life. Surrendered his whole life at the feet of Lord Shri Ram by living in Ayodhya.
The meaning of this story is that God should be called with true feelings and it should be accepted that he will do whatever he does, then God himself comes to protect his devotees.
