‘श्री राम जय राम जय जय राम’ – यह सात शब्दों वाला तारक मंत्र है। साधारण से दिखने वाले इस मंत्र में जो शक्ति छिपी हुई है, वह अनुभव का विषय है। इसे कोई भी, कहीं भी, कभी भी कर सकता है। फल बराबर मिलता है।
हमारा सबसे बड़ा दुर्भाग्य आज यही है कि हम राम नाम का सहारा नहीं ले रहे हैं। हमने जितना भी अधिक राम नाम को खोया है, हमारे जीवन में उतनी ही विषमता बढ़ी है, उतना ही अधिक संत्रास हमें मिला है। एक सार्थक नाम के रुप में हमारे ऋषि-मुनियों ने राम नाम को पहचाना है। उन्होंने इस पूज्य नाम की परख की और नामों के आगे लगाने का चलन प्रारंभ किया।
प्रत्येक हिन्दू परिवार में देखा जा सकता है कि बच्चे के जन्म में राम के नाम का सोहर होता है। वैवाहिक आदि सुअवसरों पर राम के गीत गाए जाते हैं। राम नाम को जीवन का महामंत्र माना गया है।
राम सर्वमय व सर्वमुक्त हैं। राम सबकी चेतना का सजीव नाम हैं। अस समरथ रघुनायकहिं, भजत जीव ते धन्य।। प्रत्येक राम भक्त के लिए राम उसके हृदय में वास कर सुख सौभाग्य और सांत्वना देने वाले हैं।
तुलसीदास जी ने रामचरितमानस में लिख दिया है कि प्रभु के जितने भी नाम प्रचलित हैं, उन सब में सर्वाधिक श्री फल देने वाला नाम राम ही है। यह नाम सबसे सरल, सुरक्षित तथा निश्चित रुप से लक्ष्य की प्राप्ति करवाने वाला है। मंत्र जप के लिए आयु, स्थान, परिस्थिति, काल, जात-पात आदि किसी भी बाहरी आडम्बर का बंधन नहीं है। किसी क्षण, किसी भी स्थान पर इसका जप सकते हैं। जब मन सहज रूप में लगे, तब ही मंत्र जप कर लें।
तारक मंत्र ‘श्री’ से प्रारंभ होता है। ‘श्री’ को सीता अथवा शक्ति का प्रतीक माना गया है। राम शब्द ‘रा’ अर्थात् र-कार और ‘म’ मकार से मिल कर बना है। ‘रा’ अग्नि स्वरुप है। यह हमारे दुष्कर्मों का दाह करता है। ‘म’ जल तत्व का द्योतक है। जल आत्मा की जीवात्मा पर विजय का कारक है।
इस प्रकार पूरे तारक मंत्र- ‘श्री राम, जय राम, जय जय राम’ का सार निकलता है- शक्ति से परमात्मा पर विजय। योग शास्त्र में देखा जाए तो ‘रा’ वर्ण को सौर ऊर्जा का कारक माना गया है। यह हमारी रीढ़-रज्जू के दाईं ओर स्थित पिंगला नाड़ी में स्थित है।
यहां से यह शरीर में पौरुष ऊर्जा का संचार करता है। ‘मा’ वर्ण को चन्द्र ऊर्जा कारक अर्थात स्त्री लिंग माना गया है। यह रीढ़-रज्जू के बांई ओर स्थित इड़ा नाड़ी में प्रवाहित होता है।
इसीलिए कहा गया है कि श्वास और निश्वास में निरंतर र-कार ‘रा’ और म-कार ‘म’ का उच्चारण करते रहने से दोनों नाड़ियों में प्रवाहित ऊर्जा में सामंजस्य बना रहता है। अध्यात्म में यह माना गया है कि जब व्यक्ति ‘रा’ शब्द का उच्चारण करता है तो इसके साथ-साथ उसके आंतरिक पाप बाहर फेंक दिए जाते हैं। इससे अंतःकरण निष्पाप हो जाता है।

Our biggest misfortune today is that we are not taking the help of the name of Ram. The more we have lost the name of Ram, the more disparity has increased in our life, the more panic we have got. Our sages have recognized the name of Ram as a meaningful name. He tested this revered name and started the practice of putting it before names.
It can be seen in every Hindu family that the name of Ram is chanted at the birth of a child. Ram’s songs are sung on auspicious occasions like marriage. The name of Ram has been considered as the great mantra of life.
Ram is omnipresent and omnipotent. Ram is the living name of everyone’s consciousness. As Samarath Raghunayakhi, blessed are the living beings. For every Ram devotee, Ram resides in his heart and gives happiness, good luck and solace.
Tulsidas ji has written in Ramcharitmanas that of all the popular names of the Lord, Ram is the most fruitful name. This name is the most simple, safe and sure to achieve the goal. Age, place, situation, time, caste etc. are not the bondage of any external ostentatiousness for chanting mantra. It can be chanted at any time, at any place. Chant the mantra only when the mind is engaged in a natural way.
Tarak Mantra starts with ‘Shri’. ‘Shri’ has been considered a symbol of Sita or Shakti. The word Ram is made up of ‘Ra’ i.e. Ra-Kar and ‘M’ Makar. ‘Ra’ is the form of fire. It burns our misdeeds. ‘M’ signifies the water element. Water is the factor of victory of the soul over the soul.
This is how the essence of the entire Tarak Mantra – ‘Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram’ emerges – victory over God by power. If seen in Yoga Shastra, the letter ‘Ra’ has been considered as the factor of solar energy. It is located in the Pingala Nadi on the right side of our spinal cord.
From here it transmits masculine energy in the body. The character ‘Ma’ has been considered as the lunar energy factor, that is, the female gender. It flows into the Ida Nadi located on the left side of the spinal cord.
That is why it has been said that by continuously pronouncing Ra-Kar ‘Ra’ and Ma-Kar ‘M’ in inhalation and exhalation, harmony remains in the energy flowing in both the channels. It is believed in spirituality that when a person utters the word ‘Ra’, along with it his internal sins are thrown out. This makes the conscience innocent.
