तत्त्व के साक्षात्कार के लिए सम्पूर्ण प्रयास होते हैं। तत्त्व जिज्ञासा होने के बाद ही श्रवण-मननादि होता है और भगवत्तत्त्व का साक्षात्कार होता है। भगवान व्यास ब्रह्मविद्वरिष्ठ थे, फिर भी उनको शान्ति नहीं मिली। नारदजी महाराज उनके सामने आए।
(श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण- १ / ५ – ६ अध्याय)
नारदजी महाराज ने कहा- ‘तुमने जो कुछ भी किया है बहुत ऊँचा काम किया है, इसमें सन्देह नहीं। वेदों का व्यास (विस्तार) किया। ब्रह्मसूत्र का निर्माण किया। गीता का निर्माण किया। सब कुछ किया, पर अपेक्षाकृत भगवच्चरित्रामृत का वर्णन कम किया। इसलिए तुम वही करो।’
व्यासजी से देवर्षि नारदजी ने कहा- हमारी माता वेदवाही ब्राह्मणों के यहाँ दासी थी। ऋषि-महर्षि उनके यहाँ आये हुए थे। उनकी सेवा में हमारी माता रहती थीं। हम भी उनकी सेवा में रहते थे। उन महात्माओं के सम्पर्क से कुछ धर्मनिष्ठा, भक्तिनिष्ठा हो गई। अन्ततोगत्वा माता को साँप ने काट लिया। माता मर गयी। मैंने सोचा- अच्छा ही हुआ। भगवान ने परम कृपा की, कल्याण ही किया। फिर जंगल में चला गया। एकान्त में भगवान का ध्यान करने लगा।
ध्यायतश्चरणाम्भोजं भावनिर्जितचेतसा।
औत्कण्ठ्याश्रुकलाक्षस्य हृद्यासीन्मे शनैर्हरि:।।
(श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण- १ / ६ / १६)
भक्ति भाव से वशीकृत चित्तद्वारा भगवान के श्रीचरण-कमलों का ध्यान करते ही भगवत्प्राप्ति की उत्कट लालसा से मेरे नेत्रों में आँसू छल-छला आये और हृदय में धीरे-धीरे भगवान प्रकट हो गये।
एकान्त में बड़ी तन्मयता से ध्यान करने पर परात्पर परब्रह्म प्रभु का हृदय मे प्रादुर्भाव हुआ। उनके अनन्त सौन्दर्य, अनन्त माधुर्य, लोकोत्तर सौरस्यामृत का आस्वादन हुआ। ऐसे अद्भुत आनन्द-सम्प्लव में मन लीन हो गया कि लोक-परलोक सब भूल गया। आनन्दसम्प्लव में अन्तःकरण लीन हो गया। क्षणभर में ही वह स्वरूप अन्तर्हित हो गया। उसके बाद मैंने बड़ा प्राणायाम किया, आँख दबाया, नाक दबाया, कान दबाया- बड़ा प्रयास किया, परन्तु प्रभु नहीं आए। दर्शन नहीं हुआ। बड़ा व्याकुल हुआ। फिर आकाशवाणी हुई-
हन्तास्मिअन्मनि भवान्न मां द्रष्टुमिहार्हति।
अविपक्वकषायाणां दुर्दशोअहं कुयोगिनाम्।।
सकृद् यद्दर्शितं रूपमेतत्कामाय तेऽनघ।
मत्काम: शनकै: साधु सर्वान्मुञ्चति हृच्छयान्।।
(श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण- १ / ६ / २१ – २२)
खेद है कि तुम इस जन्म में मेरा दर्शन नहीं कर सकोगे। जिनकी वासनाएँ पूर्णतया शान्त नहीं हो गयी हैं, उन अधकचरे योगियों को मेरा दर्शन अत्यन्त दुर्लभ है। हे अनघ-निष्पाप! तेरे हृदय में मुझे प्राप्त करने की उत्कट उत्कण्ठा जाग्रत हो, इसलिए मैंने तुम्हें एकबार अपना दर्शन कराया। मुझे प्राप्त करने की इच्छा वाला भक्त धीरे-धीरे हृदय की सम्पूर्ण कामनाओं का भलीभाँति त्याग कर देता है।
इस जन्म में तुम्हें अब मेरा दर्शन नहीं हो सकता। जिनका कषाय परिपक्व नहीं है, अभी खतम नहीं हुआ है, उनके लिए हमारा दर्शन असम्भव है। ‘तो प्रभो, क्यों कर आपने इस माधुर्यामृत का अनुभव करा दिया?’ यदि ऐसा कहो तो सुनो? एक बार जो माधुर्यामृत का रस-विन्दु तुमको अनुभव कराया वह इसलिए कि इसके पाने की उत्कट उत्कण्ठा हो जाय। भगवत्पद प्राप्ति के लिए उत्कट-उत्कण्ठा हो, यही मुख्य बात है। ऊँचा से ऊँचा पुरुषार्थ- सबसे बड़ा पुरुषार्थ यही है।

There are exhaustive efforts to realize the essence. Only after inquiry into the essence does hearing and contemplation take place and realization of the Supreme Tattva takes place. Lord Vyasa was the Brahma Vidvarishta, yet he did not find peace. Naradaji Maharaj came before him. (Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapurana- Chapters 1/5-6)
Naradji Maharaj said- ‘Whatever you have done, you have done a very high work, there is no doubt about it. Did the Vyas (expansion) of the Vedas. Brahmasutra was created. Gita was created. Did everything, but relatively reduced the description of Bhagavacharitramrit. That’s why you do the same.
Devarshi Naradji said to Vyasji – Our mother Vedwahi was a maid in the place of Brahmins. Rishi-Maharishi had come to his place. Our mother used to live in his service. We too lived in his service. Due to the contact of those Mahatma’s, some religiousness and devotion developed. At last the mother was bitten by a snake. Mother died. I thought – well done. God has given the ultimate grace, he has done good. Then went to the forest. Started meditating on God in solitude.
Meditating on the lotus feet of the Lord with a mind conquered by emotion. Slowly the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared in my heart with eyes filled with tears of anxiety (Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapurana-1/6/16)
As soon as I meditated on the lotus feet of the Lord with a mind subjugated by devotion, tears welled up in my eyes due to the fervent longing for God-realization and slowly God appeared in my heart.
On meditating with great concentration in solitude, Paratpar Parabrahma Prabhu appeared in the heart. His infinite beauty, infinite sweetness, cosmic solar amrit was tasted. The mind got engrossed in such a wonderful bliss that it forgot all about the world and the hereafter. The conscience got engrossed in bliss. Within a moment that form disappeared. After that I did a lot of Pranayama, pressed my eyes, pressed my nose, pressed my ears – tried hard, but the Lord did not come. Darshan did not happen. Got very worried. Then came the sky-
I’m a murderer and you don’t deserve to see me here. I am the misfortune of the immature alkaloids and of the evil yogis.
O sinless one this form which I have once shown you is for your desire My desire slowly, well, releases all the desires of the heart. (Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapurana- 1/6/21-22)
Sorry that you will not be able to see me in this birth. My darshan is very rare for those half-baked yogis whose desires have not completely calmed down. Oh innocent! Your heart should have a burning yearning to get me, that’s why I made you see me once. A devotee desirous of attaining Me gradually gives up all the desires of the heart.
You can no longer see me in this birth. For those whose kashaya is not mature, has not finished yet, our darshan is impossible for them. ‘So Lord, why did you make me experience this sweetness?’ If you say so, then listen? Once you were made to experience the essence of Madhuryamarit, it was because you became eager to get it. The main thing is to be eager to attain Bhagwatpad. Highest on high effort – this is the biggest effort.
