कहा जाता है कि जब जब पृथ्वी पर कोई संकट आता है तो भगवान अवतार लेकर उस संकट को दूर करते है। भगवान शिव और भगवान विष्णु ने अनेको बार पृथ्वी पर अवतार लिया है। प्रस्तुत है भगवान विष्णु के २४अवतारों के बारे में-
भगवान विष्णु के २३ अवतार अब तक पृथ्वी पर अवतरित हो चुके है जबकि २४वां अवतार ‘कल्कि अवतार’ के रूप में होना बाकी है। इन २४ अवतार में से १० अवतार विष्णु जी के मुख्य अवतार माने जाते है। यह है मत्स्य अवतार, कूर्म अवतार, वराह अवतार, नृसिंह अवतार, वामन अवतार, परशुराम अवतार, राम अवतार. कृष्ण अवतार, बुद्ध अवतार, कल्कि अवतार।
१- श्री सनकादि मुनि-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार सृष्टि के आरंभ में लोक पितामह ब्रह्मा ने अनेक लोकों की रचना करने की इच्छा से घोर तपस्या की। उनके तप से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान विष्णु ने तप अर्थ वाले सन नाम से युक्त होकर सनक, सनन्दन, सनातन और सनत्कुमार नाम के चार मुनियों के रूप में अवतार लिया। ये चारों प्राकट्य काल से ही मोक्ष मार्ग परायण, ध्यान में तल्लीन रहने वाले, नित्यसिद्ध एवं नित्य विरक्त थे। ये भगवान विष्णु के सर्वप्रथम अवतार माने जाते हैं।
२- वराह अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार भगवान विष्णु ने दूसरा अवतार वराह रूप में लिया था। पुरातन समय में दैत्य हिरण्याक्ष ने जब पृथ्वी को ले जाकर समुद्र में छिपा दिया तब ब्रह्मा की नाक से भगवान विष्णु वराह रूप में प्रकट हुए।
३- नारद अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार देवर्षि नारद भी भगवान विष्णु के ही अवतार हैं। शास्त्रों के अनुसार नारद मुनि, ब्रह्मा के सात मानस पुत्रों में से एक हैं। उन्होंने कठिन तपस्या से देवर्षि पद प्राप्त किया है।
४- नर-नारायण-
सृष्टि के आरंभ में भगवान विष्णु ने धर्म की स्थापना के लिए दो रूपों में अवतार लिया। इस अवतार में वे अपने मस्तक पर जटा धारण किए हुए थे। उनके हाथों में हंस, चरणों में चक्र एवं वक्ष:स्थल में श्रीवत्स के चिन्ह थे। धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार भगवान विष्णु ने नर-नारायण के रूप में यह अवतार लिया था।
५- कपिल मुनि-
भगवान विष्णु ने पांचवा अवतार कपिल मुनि के रूप में लिया। इनके पिता का नाम महर्षि कर्दम व माता का नाम देवहूति था। शरशय्या पर पड़े हुए भीष्म पितामह के शरीर त्याग के समय वेदज्ञ व्यास आदि ऋषियों के साथ भगवा कपिल भी वहां उपस्थित थे।
६- दत्तात्रेय अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार दत्तात्रेय भी भगवान विष्णु के अवतार हैं। ब्रह्मा के अंश से चंद्रमा, शंकर के अंश से दुर्वासा और विष्णु के अंश से दत्तात्रेय का जन्म हुआ।
७- यज्ञ-
भगवान विष्णु के सातवे अवतार का नाम यज्ञ है। धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार भगवान यज्ञ का जन्म स्वायम्भुव मन्वन्तर में हुआ था।
८- भगवान ऋषभदेव-
भगवान विष्णु ने ऋषभदेव के रूप में आठवा अवतार लिया।
९- आदिराज पृथु-
भगवान विष्णु के एक अवतार का नाम आदिराज पृथु है।
१०- मत्स्य अवतार-
पुराणों के अनुसार भगवान विष्णु ने सृष्टि को प्रलय से बचाने के लिए मत्स्यावतार लिया था। समय आने पर मत्स्यरूपधारी भगवान विष्णु ने राजा सत्यव्रत को तत्वज्ञान का उपदेश दिया, जो मत्स्यपुराण नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।
११- कूर्म अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार भगवान विष्णु ने कूर्म (कछुए) का अवतार लेकर समुद्र मंथन में सहायता की थी। भगवान विष्णु के कूर्म अवतार को कच्छप अवतार भी कहते हैं। भगवान कूर्म की विशाल पीठ पर मंदराचल तेजी से घुमने लगा और इस प्रकार समुद्र मंथन संपन्न हुआ।
१२- भगवान धन्वन्तरि-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार जब देवताओं व दैत्यों ने मिलकर समुद्र मंथन किया तो उसमें से सबसे पहले भयंकर विष निकला जिसे भगवान शिव ने पी लिया। इसके बाद समुद्र मंथन से उच्चैश्रवा घोड़ा, देवी लक्ष्मी, ऐरावत हाथी, कल्प वृक्ष, अप्सराएं और भी बहुत से रत्न निकले। सबसे अंत में भगवान धन्वन्तरि अमृत कलश लेकर प्रकट हुए। यही धन्वन्तरि भगवान विष्णु के अवतार माने गए हैं। इन्हें औषधियों का स्वामी भी माना गया है।
१३- मोहिनी अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार भगवान विष्णु ने मोहिनी अवतार लेकर देवताओं का भला किया।
१४- भगवान नृसिंह-
भगवान विष्णु ने नृसिंह अवतार लेकर दैत्यों के राजा हिरण्यकशिपु का वध किया था। जब हिरण्यकशिपु स्वयं प्रह्लाद को मारने ही वाला था तब भगवान विष्णु नृसिंह का अवतार लेकर खंबे से प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने अपने नाखूनों से हिरण्यकशिपु का वध कर दिया।
१५- वामन अवतार-
कुछ समय पश्चात भगवान विष्णु ने वामन अवतार लिया।
१६- हयग्रीव अवतार-
भगवान हयग्रीव अवतार में भगवान विष्णु की गर्दन और मुख घोड़े के समान थी। तब भगवान हयग्रीव रसातल में पहुंचे और मधु-कैटभ का वध कर वेद पुन: भगवान ब्रह्मा को दे दिए।
१७- श्रीहरि अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार गजेंद्र की स्तुति सुनकर भगवान श्रीहरि प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने अपने चक्र से मगरमच्छ का वध कर दिया। भगवान श्रीहरि ने गजेंद्र का उद्धार कर उसे अपना पार्षद बना लिया।
१८- परशुराम अवतार-
हिंदू धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार परशुराम भगवान विष्णु के प्रमुख अवतारों में से एक थे।
१९- महर्षि वेदव्यास-
पुराणों में महर्षि वेदव्यास को भी भगवान विष्णु का ही अंश माना गया है। भगवान व्यास नारायण के कलावतार थे। इन्होंने ही महाभारत ग्रंथ की रचना भी की।
२०- हंस अवतार-
भगवान विष्णु महाहंस के रूप में प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने सनकादि मुनियों के संदेह का निवारण किया। इसके बाद सभी ने भगवान हंस की पूजा की।
२१- श्रीराम अवतार-
त्रेतायुग में राक्षसराज रावण का बहुत आतंक था। उसके वध के लिए भगवान विष्णु ने राजा दशरथ के यहां माता कौशल्या के गर्भ से पुत्र रूप में जन्म लिया। भगवान विष्णु ने राम अवतार लेकर देवताओं को भय मुक्त किया।
२२- श्रीकृष्ण अवतार-
द्वापरयुग में भगवान विष्णु ने श्रीकृष्ण अवतार लेकर अधर्मियों का नाश किया। कंस का वध भी भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने ही किया। महाभारत के युद्ध में अर्जुन के सारथि बने और दुनिया को गीता का ज्ञान दिया। धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को राजा बना कर धर्म की स्थापना की। भगवान विष्णु का ये अवतार सभी अवतारों में सबसे श्रेष्ठ माना जाता है।
२३- बुद्ध अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार बौद्धधर्म के प्रवर्तक गौतम बुद्ध भी भगवान विष्णु के ही अवतार थे ।
२४- कल्कि अवतार-
धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार कलयुग में भगवान विष्णु कल्कि रूप में अवतार लेंगे। कल्कि अवतार कलियुग व सतयुग के संधिकाल में होगा। यह अवतार ६४ कलाओं से युक्त होगा। पुराणों के अनुसार उत्तरप्रदेश के मुरादाबाद जिले के शंभल नामक स्थान पर विष्णुयशा नामक तपस्वी ब्राह्मण के घर भगवान कल्कि पुत्र रूप में जन्म लेंगे। कल्कि देवदत्त नामक घोड़े पर सवार होकर संसार से पापियों का विनाश करेंगे और धर्म की पुन:स्थापना करेंगे। ।। श्री विष्णुवे नमः ।।
It is said that whenever there is any crisis on earth, God takes incarnation and removes that crisis. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu have incarnated on earth many times. Presenting about the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu-
23 incarnations of Lord Vishnu have so far appeared on earth while the 24th incarnation is yet to take place in the form of ‘Kalki Avatar’. Out of these 24 incarnations, 10 are considered to be the main incarnations of Lord Vishnu. These are Matsya Avatar, Kurma Avatar, Varaha Avatar, Narasimha Avatar, Vaman Avatar, Parashuram Avatar, Ram Avatar. Krishna Avatar, Buddha Avatar, Kalki Avatar.
1- Shri Sankadi Muni- According to religious texts, at the beginning of creation, the world’s grandfather Brahma performed severe penance with the desire to create many worlds. Pleased with his penance, Lord Vishnu incarnated in the form of four sages named Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan and Sanatkumar with the name San meaning penance. These four were devoted to the path of salvation since the time of their appearance, were engrossed in meditation, were eternally accomplished and were always detached. He is considered to be the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
2- Varaha Avatar- According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu took the second incarnation in the form of Varaha. In ancient times, when the demon Hiranyaksha took away the earth and hid it in the sea, Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Varaha from Brahma’s nose.
3- Narad Avatar- According to religious texts, Devarshi Narad is also an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the scriptures, Narada Muni is one of the seven mental sons of Brahma. He has attained the status of Devarshi through hard penance.
4- Nar-Narayan- In the beginning of creation, Lord Vishnu incarnated in two forms to establish religion. In this incarnation he was wearing matted hair on his head. He had a swan in his hands, a chakra at his feet and the symbol of Shrivatsa on his chest. According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu had taken this incarnation in the form of Nar-Narayan.
5- Kapil Muni- Lord Vishnu took the fifth incarnation in the form of Kapil Muni. His father’s name was Maharishi Kardam and mother’s name was Devahuti. At the time of death of Bhishma Pitamah lying on the bed, Bhagwa Kapil was also present there along with sages like Vedagya Vyas etc.
6- Dattatreya Avatar- According to religious texts, Dattatreya is also an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Moon was born from Brahma’s part, Durvasa was born from Shankar’s part and Dattatreya was born from Vishnu’s part.
7-Yagya- The name of the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Yagya. According to religious texts, Lord Yagya was born in Swayambhuva Manvantar.
8- Lord Rishabhdev- Lord Vishnu took the eighth incarnation in the form of Rishabhdev.
9- Adiraj Prithu- The name of an incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Adiraj Prithu.
10- Matsya Avatar- According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu had taken the incarnation of Matsya to save the universe from destruction. When the time came, Lord Vishnu in the form of a fish preached Tatvgyan to King Satyavrat, which is famous by the name Matsyapuran.
11- Kurma Avatar- According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Kurma (tortoise) and helped in the churning of the ocean. Kurma incarnation of Lord Vishnu is also called Kachhapa incarnation. Mandarachal started rotating rapidly on the huge back of Lord Kurma and thus the churning of the ocean was completed.
12- Lord Dhanvantari- According to religious texts, when the gods and demons together churned the ocean, the first terrible poison that came out of it was Lord Shiva who drank it. After this, from the churning of the ocean, Uchchaishrava horse, Goddess Lakshmi, Airavat elephant, Kalpa tree, Apsaras and many other gems emerged. At last Lord Dhanvantari appeared with the nectar pot. This Dhanvantari is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is also considered the lord of medicines.
13- Mohini Avatar- According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu did good to the gods by taking Mohini incarnation.
14- Lord Narasimha- Lord Vishnu had killed the demon king Hiranyakashipu by taking the incarnation of Narasimha. When Hiranyakashipu himself was about to kill Prahlad, Lord Vishnu appeared from the pillar in the incarnation of Narasimha and killed Hiranyakashipu with his nails.
15- Vaman Avatar- After some time Lord Vishnu took Vaman incarnation.
16- Hayagriva Avatar- In Lord Hayagriva incarnation, Lord Vishnu’s neck and face were like that of a horse. Then Lord Hayagriva reached the abyss and killed Madhu-Kaitabha and gave the Vedas again to Lord Brahma.
17- Sri Hari Avatar- According to religious texts, after hearing the praise of Gajendra, Lord Sri Hari appeared and killed the crocodile with his chakra. Lord Sri Hari saved Gajendra and made him his councilor.
18- Parshuram Avatar- According to Hindu scriptures, Parashurama was one of the major incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
19- Maharishi Vedvyas- In the Puranas, Maharishi Vedvyas is also considered to be a part of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vyas was the incarnation of Narayan. He also composed the book Mahabharata.
20- Swan Avatar- Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Mahahamsa and cleared the doubts of Sankadi sages. After this everyone worshiped Lord Hans.
21- Shri Ram Avatar- There was a lot of terror due to the demon king Ravana in Tretayuga. To kill him, Lord Vishnu was born in the form of a son from the womb of mother Kaushalya to King Dasharatha. Lord Vishnu freed the gods from fear by taking the incarnation of Ram.
22- Shri Krishna Avatar- In Dwaparyug, Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Shri Krishna and destroyed the unrighteous. Lord Krishna also killed Kansa. Became Arjun’s charioteer in the Mahabharata war and gave the knowledge of Geeta to the world. Dharmaraja established religion by making Yudhishthir the king. This incarnation of Lord Vishnu is considered to be the best among all the incarnations.
23-Buddha Avatar- According to religious texts, Gautam Buddha, the originator of Buddhism, was also an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
24- Kalki Avatar- According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu will incarnate in the form of Kalki in Kaliyuga. Kalki’s incarnation will take place at the junction of Kaliyuga and Satyayuga. This incarnation will be comprised of 64 arts. According to the Puranas, Lord Kalki will be born as a son in the house of an ascetic Brahmin named Vishnuyasha at a place called Shambhal in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Kalki will ride on a horse named Devdutt and destroy the sinners from the world and re-establish religion. , Shri Vishnuve Namah.
