गजनीसे ईरानको एक सड़क जाती है। इस रास्तेपर पहले लुटेरोंका भयंकर अड्डा था और इस मार्गसे कोई भी व्यापारी निरापद नहीं निकल पाता था। एक बार इन लुटेरोंने एक कारवाँ लूटा और खुरासानके एक युवकको मार डाला। अब उसकी माता रोती पीटती सुलतान महमूदके दरबारमें पहुँची। बादशाहने सारी बातें सुनकर कहा – ‘वह स्थान यहाँसे बहुतदूर है और वहाँकी बातोंको देखना मेरे लिये बड़ा कठिन है।’
बुढ़ियाने कहा – ‘ ‘ऐसा देश, जहाँ तुम शान्ति नहीं रख सकते, अपने पास क्यों रखते हो ?’ महमूद इससे बड़ा प्रभावित हुआ और वह लुटेरोंके दमन करनेके लिये तुरंत तैयार हो गया तथा यात्रियोंकी रक्षाके लिये उसने उस सड़कपर उचित व्यवस्था कर दी।
A road leads from Ghazni to Iran. Earlier there was a fierce den of robbers on this route and no merchant could pass through this route safely. Once these robbers looted a caravan and killed a youth of Khorasan. Now his mother reached Sultan Mahmud’s court crying. After listening to all the things, the king said – ‘That place is far away from here and it is very difficult for me to see things there.’
The old woman said – ‘Why do you keep such a country with you, where you cannot keep peace?’ Mahmud was very impressed by this and he immediately got ready to suppress the robbers and he made proper arrangements on that road to protect the passengers.
