गढ़मण्डलके राजा पीपाजी राज-काज छोड़ रामानन्द
स्वामीके शिष्य बने और उनकी आज्ञासे द्वारकामें हरि दर्शनार्थ गये। दर्शन करके अपनी पत्नीसहित लौट रहे थे कि रास्तेमें उन्हें एक महाव्याघ्र मिला । रानी शेरको देख कातर हो उठी। राजाने उसे समझाया- ‘अरी! घबराती क्यों है। गुरुदेवने सर्वत्र हरिरूप देखनेका जो उपदेश दिया था, वह भूल गयी ? मुझे तो इसमें हरिरूप ही दीख रहा है। और हरिसे भय कैसा ।’

रानी कुछ आश्वस्त हुई। राजाने गलेसे तुलसी माला निकाल व्याघ्रके गलेमें डाल दी और उसे एककृष्ण-मन्त्रका उपदेश देते हुए कहा—‘मृगेन्द्र! इसे || जपो; इसीके प्रतापसे वाल्मीकि, अजामिल, गजेन्द्र | सभी तर गये।’

राजाकी निष्ठा और सर्वत्र देवदृष्टि शेरपर भी काम कर गयी। उसने हाथ जोड़ा और वह जप करने लगा। | पीपाजी वहाँसे चले गये।

सात दिनतक शेर जंगलमें घूमता, मांस त्यागकर | सूखे पत्ते चबाता हरिजप करता रहा। अन्तमें उसने | हरि-भजन करते हुए प्राण त्यागा। दूसरे जन्ममें वही जूनागढ़का परम हरिभक्त नरसी मेहता बना।

Became a disciple of Swami and by his order went to Dwarka to see Hari. After darshan, he was returning with his wife that he found a big tiger on the way. The queen was shocked to see the lion. The king explained to him – ‘ Hey! Why are you worried? Have you forgotten the advice given by Gurudev to see Hari Rup everywhere? I can only see Hari Rup in it. And how to be afraid of Hari.
The queen was somewhat reassured. The king took out the Tulsi garland from his neck and put it around the tiger’s neck and preached one Krishna-mantra to him and said – ‘Mrigendra! it || chant; His glory is Valmiki, Ajamil, Gajendra. Everyone got wet.
The king’s loyalty and divine vision everywhere worked on the lion as well. He folded his hands and started chanting. , Pipaji left from there.
For seven days the lion wandered in the forest, giving up meat. Hari Jap kept on chewing dry leaves. At last he Gave up his life while doing Hari-Bhajan. In his second birth, he became Narsi Mehta, the ultimate Hari Bhakta of Junagadh.
