‘दीर्घसूत्री विनश्यति’
एक तालाब में, जिसमें थोड़ा ही जल था, बहुत सी मछलियाँ रहती थीं। उसमें तीन विशाल मस्त्य भी थे ये तीनों एक साथ हो रहा करते थे। उनमें एकका नाम दीर्घदर्शी, दूसरेका प्रत्युत्पन्नमति और तोसरेका दीर्घसूत्री था। ये तीनों नामके अनुरूप स्वभाववाले थे। दीर्घदर्शी समयसे पहले भावी परिणाम जान लेता था, प्रत्युत्पन्नमति तत्काल समस्याका हल निकालनेमें निपुण था और दीर्घसूत्री आलसी तथा मन्दबुद्धि था।
एक दिन कुछ मछेने उस तालाब का पानी आस पासको नीची भूमिमें निकालना आरम्भ कर दिया। तालाबका जल घटता देखकर दीर्घदर्शने आगामी भयको आशंकासे अपने दोनों साथियोंसे कहा, ‘मालूम होता है कि इस जलाशय में रहनेवाले सभी प्राणियोंपर आपत्ति आनेवाली है, इसलिये जबतक हमारे निकलनेका मार्ग नष्ट न हो, तबतक शीघ्र ही हमें यहाँसे चले जाना चाहिये। यदि आपलोगों को भी मेरी सलाह ठीक जान पड़े तो चलिये किसी द ूसरे स्थानको चलें।’ इसपर दीर्घसूत्रोंने कहा, ‘तुमने बात तो ठीक हो कही है, किंतु मेरा ऐसा विचार है कि अभी हमें जल्दी नहीं करनी चाहिये। फिर प्रत्युत्पन्नमति बोला, ‘अजो जब समय आता है तो मेरी बुद्धि युक्ति निकालनेमें कभी नहीं चूकती।’ उन दोनोंका ऐसा विचार देखकर महामति दीर्घदर्शी तो उसी दिन एक नालीमें होकर गहरे जलाशयमें चला गया।
कुछ समय बाद जब मछेरोंने देखा कि उस जलाशयका जल प्रायः निकल चुका है तो उन्होंने बालोंमें उसको सब मछलियोंको फँसा लिया। सबके साथ दीर्घसूत्री भी जालमें फँस गया। जब मछेरोंने जाल उठाया तो प्रत्युत्पन्नमति भी मछलियोंमें घुसकर मृतक सा होकर पड़ गया। वे मछेरे जालमें फैंसी हुई उन सब मछलियोंको लेकर दूसरे गहरे जलवाले तालाबपर आये और उन्हें उसमें धोने लगे। इसी समय प्रत्युत्पन्नमति तो जालमेंसे निकलकर जलमें घुस गया, किंतु मन्दबुद्धि दीर्घसूत्री अचेत होकर मर गया।
इस प्रकार जो पुरुष मोहवश अपने सिरपर आये हुए कालकी नहीं देख पाता, वह दीर्घसूत्री मस्त्यके समान जल्दी ही नष्ट हो जाता है। जो यह समझकर कि मैं बड़ा कार्यकुशल हूँ, पहलेहीसे अपनी भलाईका उपाय नहीं करता, वह प्रत्युत्पन्नमति नामक मत्स्यके समान संशयकी स्थितिमें पड़ जाता है और जो समयसे पूर्व ही भावी परिणाम जानकर अपनेको सुरक्षित कर लेता है, वह | दीर्घदर्शीकी भाँति सर्वदा कुशलसे रहता है। इसीसे कहा. | है कि दीर्घदर्शी और प्रत्युत्पन्नमति- इन दो स्वभाववाले तो सुखी रहते हैं किन्तु दीर्घसूत्री व्यक्ति नष्ट हो जाता है।
‘Long thread is destroyed’
In a pond, which had little water, there lived many fish. There were also three huge mastiffs in it. These three used to be happening together. One of them was named Dirghadarshi, the other Pratyutpannamati and the third Dirghasutri. These three were of the nature of the name. The farsighted knew the future outcome ahead of time, the counterintuitive was adept at solving the problem immediately, and the long-sighted was lazy and slow-witted.
One day some fish started draining the pond into the surrounding lowlands. Seeing the water in the pond decreasing, the far-sighted man, fearing the coming fear, said to his two companions, ‘It is known that all the creatures living in this reservoir are about to be harmed, so we must leave here soon until our way out is destroyed. If you also think my advice is right, let’s go somewhere else. “You have said it right, but I think we should not rush now. Then the counter-intuitive said, ‘Today, when the time comes, my intellect never fails to come up with a plan. Seeing such thought of both of them, the great visionary went through a drain and into a deep reservoir that day.
After a while, when the fishermen saw that the water in the reservoir was almost gone, they trapped all the fish in the hair. Along with everyone else, the long thread was also caught in the trap. When the fishermen lifted the net, the recovered mind also entered the fish and fell dead. They came to another deep pond with all the fish caught in the nets and washed them in it. At the same time, the counter-intelligence came out of the net and entered the water, but the slow-witted, long-suffering man died unconscious.
Thus, a man who, out of delusion, cannot see the darkness that has come upon his head, is quickly destroyed like a long-threaded mastya. He who, thinking that I am very efficient, does not already take measures for his own good, falls into a state of doubt like a fish called pratyutpannamati, and he who secures himself by knowing the future result ahead of time Like a farsighted man, he is always well. This is why. | is that the far-sighted and the counter-intuitive- these two nature-bearers remain happy but the far-sighted person is destroyed.
