स्वामी उग्रानन्दजी बहुत अच्छे संत थे। बड़े सहिष्णु तथा सर्वत्र भगवद्बुद्धि रखनेवाले थे। एक बार आप उन्नाव जिलेके किसी ग्राममें पहुँचे। संध्या हो गयी थी। आप ब्रह्मानन्दकी मस्तीमें निमग्र एक पेड़के तले गुदड़ी बिछाकर लेट गये। रात्रिमें उसी गाँव में किसी किसानके बैलको चोर चुराकर ले गये । गाँवमें थोड़ी देर बाद ही हल्ला मचा और सबने कहा कि ‘चलो, बैलोंको ढूँढ़ें, कहीं चोर जाता हुआ मिल ही जायगा।’ ऐसा विचार करके बहुत-से गाँववाले लाठी ले-लेकर बैलको ढूँढने निकले। ढूँढ़ते-ढूँढ़ते वे उस जगहपर आये, जहाँ स्वामीजी पेड़के नीचे सो रहे थे। उनमेंसे एक आदमीको स्वामीजी दिखायी दिये। उसने सबको पास बुलाकर कहा कि ‘लो, चोरका पता तो लग गया। देखो! यह जो पेड़के नीचे पड़ा हुआ है इसके साथी तो बैल आगे लेकर भाग गये हैं और यह यहीं रह गया है।’ यों कहकर उन सबने स्वामीजीको चोर समझकर पकड़ लिया, उनकी गुदड़ी छीन ली और सबने मिलकर उन्हें खूब मारा। किंतु स्वामीजी बिलकुल शान्त रहे और कुछ भी नहीं बोले। पिटते-पिटते स्वामीजीके मुखसे खूनतक बहने लगा। फिर वे उन्हें बाँधकर गाँवमें ले आये और उन्हें किसी चौपाल पर ले जाकर एक कोठरीमें बंद करके डाल।दिया। जब प्रातः काल हुआ तब सबने उन्हें उस कोठरीमेंसे निकाला और पकड़कर उन्हें थानेमें ले जाने लगे। थानेदार स्वामीजीको अच्छी तरहसे जानता था और वह स्वामीजीका बड़ा प्रेमी था। जब गाँववाले उन्हें लेकर वहाँ पहुँचे तब थानेदारने दूरसे उन्हें देख लिया। वह कुर्सी छोड़कर भागा हुआ वहाँ आया और स्वामीजीके पैरोंमें पड़कर उसने प्रणाम किया। थानेदारको प्रणाम करते देखकर गाँववाले बहुत घबराये कि यह क्या बात है। थानेदारने सिपाहियोंको बुलाकर कहा कि ‘मारो इन दुष्टोंको, ये स्वामीजीको क्यों पकड़कर लाये हैं।’ किसानलोग थर-थर काँपने लगे। जब सिपाही उन्हें पकड़ने चले तब स्वामीजीने उन्हें ऐसा करनेसे रोका और फिर थानेदारसे कहा कि ‘देख, तू मेरा प्रेमी है तो तू इन्हें कुछ भी दण्ड न दे और इन्हें छोड़ दे तथा सबको मिठाई मँगवाकर खिला।’ थानेदारने बहुत-कुछ कहा, परंतु स्वामीजी नहीं माने। उन्होंने थानेदारसे मिठाई मँगवाकर उन्हें खिलवायी और तब लौट जानेकी आज्ञा दी। थानेदार यह देखकर दंग – रह गया और बोला कि ‘ऐसा महात्मा तो आजतक । कभी नहीं देखा।’
स्वामीजीके साथ ऐसी घटना और भी एक बार हुई थी।
Swami Ugranandji was a very good saint. He was very tolerant and had Bhagwadbuddhi everywhere. Once you reached a village in Unnao district. It was evening. You lay down under a tree engrossed in the fun of Brahmanand. Thieves stole a farmer’s bull in the same village at night. After a while there was an uproar in the village and everyone said, ‘Come on, let’s find the bullocks, somewhere the thief will be found while leaving.’ Thinking like this, many villagers took sticks and went out to find the bull. While searching, they came to the place where Swamiji was sleeping under the tree. Swamiji appeared to one of them. He called everyone near and said, ‘Look, the thief has been found out. See! The one who is lying under the tree, his companions have run away with the bulls and he has remained here.’ By saying this, they all caught Swamiji thinking him to be a thief, snatched his ass and all together beat him a lot. But Swamiji remained completely calm and did not say anything. Swamiji’s mouth started bleeding while being beaten. Then they tied them up and brought them to the village and took them to a chaupal and put them in a closet. When it was morning, everyone took him out of that cell and caught him and started taking him to the police station. The Thanedar knew Swamiji very well and was a great lover of Swamiji. When the villagers reached there with him, the station officer saw him from a distance. Leaving the chair, he came running there and bowed down at Swamiji’s feet. Seeing the Thanedar bowing down, the villagers were very scared that what is this. The SHO called the soldiers and said, ‘Kill these rascals, why have they brought Swamiji after arresting them?’ The farmers started trembling. When the soldiers tried to catch them, Swamiji stopped them from doing so and then told the police station officer that ‘Look, you are my lover, so don’t punish them for anything and leave them and fed everyone sweets.’ The Thanedar said many things, but Swamiji did not agree. He asked for sweets from the Thanedar, fed them and then ordered them to return. The SHO was stunned to see this and said, ‘Such a Mahatma till date. Never seen.’
Such an incident happened with Swamiji once more.
