miracle of cooperation
A symbolic story of the Upanishads, which eloquently portrays how things can be successful with mutual help from each other, is popular among ancient scholars. Once Prajapati organized a big feast, in which the gods and demons were also invited for food. Rows of deities were seated in one huge mandap, demons in another, but the process of entering the mandap was such that the guests who enter through the door, a wooden strip should be tied tightly on the elbows of their hands, so that their hands could not bend. When your hands are tied like this, how can you eat such exquisitely delicious food! As soon as they reached the leaves, everyone got very upset and angry. There was an uproar from the demons’ pavilion that ‘ what kind of joke is this? If you didn’t want to eat then why did you call?’
before the pavilion of the gods
Voices were heard, then there was silence. Prajapati went to the demons’ pavilion to settle the matter. They were complained loudly, slogans were raised. Prajapati said that ‘so much raving is being heard from your pavilion, there was not so much complaint from the pavilions of the deities. One of you should also go there and see, why are they not raising slogans?’ When a representative went to that mandap and saw, it was a strange sight. There, instead of one diner sitting on each leaf, one diner on each side of each leaf, that is, two deities were sitting on each leaf. Due to the inability to bend their hands, their hands could not reach their mouths, but they were feeding each other all the delicious things very well. Prajapati explained that success is achieved only by finding some other way with the help of each other, instead of boiling when the problem arises, only resentment or rebellion does not work. Finding a way out of co-operation is the key to living a great life that can solve all problems. [M.M. Devarshi Shri Kalanathji Shastri]
