कोई स्त्री अपने पिताके घरसे लौटी थी। अपने पतिसे वह कह रही थी- ‘मेरा भाई विरक्त हो गया है। वह अगली दीवालीपर दीक्षा लेकर साधु होनेवाला है।अभीसे उसने तैयारी प्रारम्भ कर दी है। वह अपनी सम्पत्तिकी उचित व्यवस्था करनेमें लगा है।’ पत्नीकी बात सुनकर पुरुष मुसकराया। स्त्रीनेपूछा- ‘तुम हँसे क्यों? हँसनेकी क्या बात थी ?’
पुरुष बोला-‘ और तो सब ठीक है; किंतु तुम्हारे भाईका वैराग्य मुझे अद्भुत लगा। वैराग्य हो गया और दीक्षा लेनेकी अभी तिथि निश्चित हुई है ? और वह सम्पत्तिकी उचित व्यवस्थामें भी लगा है। भौतिक सम्पत्ति सम्पत्ति – बुद्धि और इस उत्तम काममें भी दूरकी योजना । इस प्रकार तैयारी करके त्याग नहीं हुआ करता, त्याग तो सहज होता है।’स्त्रीको बुरा लगा। वह बोली- ‘ऐसे ज्ञानी हो तो तुम्हीं क्यों कुछ कर नहीं दिखाते।’
‘मैं तो तुम्हारी अनुमतिकी ही प्रतीक्षामें था।’ पुरुषने वस्त्र उतार दिये और एक धोती मात्र पहिने घरसे निकल पड़ा। स्त्रीने समझा कि यह परिहास है, थोड़ी देरमें उसका पति लौट आयेगा; परंतु वह तो लौटनेके लिये गया ही नहीं था

A woman had returned from her father’s house. She was saying to her husband- ‘My brother has become bored. He is going to become a monk on the next Diwali after taking Diksha. He has already started preparations. He is engaged in proper arrangement of his property. The man smiled after listening to his wife. The woman asked – ‘Why did you laugh? What was the point of laughing?
The man said – ‘And everything is fine; But I found your brother’s quietness amazing. Have you become disinterested and have you fixed the date for initiation? And he is also engaged in proper management of property. Material wealth, wealth, intelligence and even a far-fetched plan in this noble deed. Sacrifice does not happen after preparing in this way, it is easy to sacrifice.’ The woman felt bad. She said – ‘If you are such a knowledgeable person then why don’t you do something yourself.’
‘I was just waiting for your permission.’ The man took off his clothes and came out of the house wearing only a dhoti. The woman thought it was a joke, her husband would return in a while; but he didn’t even go to return
