sorrow in love
A Shahji of Ramnagar kept a white rat. He used to feed, drink and take care of him very lovingly. When Shahaji went to the shop, he used to take her along with him and when he returned home from the shop, he used to bring her back as well. Shahji’s shop was Atta-Dalki. Many rats should be born in his shop. So Shahji got a cat to kill the rats. When the cat grew up, it started hunting shop rats, killing 4-6 rats daily and eating them. Shahji used to be very happy when he caught the rat.
Once upon a time the cat could not find a single mouse to hunt. The cat was hungry, it had no knowledge of its own. He immediately killed Shahji’s pet white mouse and ate it. What would Shahji do now, kept watching. When he ran to kill the cat, she ran away. Shahji was thinking something while sitting engrossed in sorrow that in the meantime his Guru Maharaj came out from there. Seeing Shahji worried, he said – ‘Why, what happened? All well ?’ Shahji said – ‘ Maharaj! By your grace everything is fine, but one of my domesticated white rats was eaten by a cat.’ Guruji said, ‘When you had kept a mouse, then why did you keep a cat?’ Shahji said, ‘I had kept the cat to kill the rats in the shop.’ Mahatma ji said that ‘didn’t the other rats have life?’ Then Shahji said, “Hua kare jaan, me kya, I was in love with this mouse. I had brought it up with great love.” Then Mahatmaji said that ‘Brother! The reason for your sorrow is not the mouse, but Mamta (this is my feeling).’ Shahji said – ‘Yes Maharaj!’
Mahatmaji said that everything in the world is perishable and every living being will be eaten by the cat of death. If you have affection for worldly things, you will be tormented by sorrow. Leaving these things and the affection (attachment) of women, sons, money etc., perform your duty with patience and have self-respect in all, only then you will be able to get rid of sorrow.
