क्या यह तुझे शोभा देगा

प्रसिद्ध बादशाह हारून- अल रशीदके एक लड़केने एक दिन आकर अपने पितासे कहा कि ‘अमुक सेनापतिके लड़केने मुझको माँकी गाली दी है।’ हारूनने अपने मन्त्रियोंसे पूछा कि ‘इस मामलेमें क्या करना उचित है ?’ किसीने कहा ‘उसे तुरंत मार डालना चाहिये।’ किसीने कहा ‘उस बदमाशकी जीभ निकलवा लेनी चाहिये।’ किसीने कहा ‘उसे दण्ड देकर देशनिकालादे देना चाहिये।’ इसपर हारूनने अपने पुत्रसे कहा ‘बेटा! तू यदि अपराधीको क्षमा कर सके तब तो सबसे अच्छी बात है। क्रोधका कारण उपस्थित रहनेपर भी जो पुरुष शान्त रहकर बातचीत कर सकता है, वही सच्चा वीर है। परंतु यदि तुझमें ऐसी शक्ति न हो तो तू भी उसे वही गाली दे सकता है; परंतु यह क्या तुझे शोभा देगा ?’
