श्रावण का प्रिय मास है। आकाश में काली घटाएँ छायी हुयी हैं। बिजली कड़क रही है। बादल भी जोर-जोर से गर्जना कर रहे हैं।
रिमझिम फुहारों की शीतलता शरीर को आनन्दित कर रही हैं। चम्पा, चमेली, मोगरा, आदि पुष्पों की सुगन्ध हवा में फैली हुयी है।
कोयल कुहू कुहू की मीठी तान छेड़ रही हैं। सरोवरों में हंस अठखेलियाँ कर रहे है। दादुर, मोर, पपीहे की आवाजों से सारा ब्रज क्षेत्र आनन्दित हो रहा है।
ऐसे सुखद वातावरण में ललिता सखी ने अपनी अन्य सखियों–विशाखा, चित्रा, इन्दुलेखा, सुदेवी, चम्पकलता, रंगदेवी और तुंगविद्या आदि को बुला लिया।
आज के सुहावने मौसम को और भी अधिक मधुर बनाने के लिये ये सखियाँ अपने वाद्य-यन्त्र भी साथ लायी हैं।
वन में जाकर जब सखियों ने देखा कि कृष्ण अकेले ही कदम्ब वृक्ष के नीचे वंशी वादन कर रहे हैं तो वे तुरन्त ही बृषभानु भवन जा पहुँची और श्रीराधाजी को वन में ले जाने के लिये कहने लगीं।
सखियों ने श्रीराधाजी को कुसुंभी रंग की साड़ी पहनायी और नख से सिर तक उनका फूलों से श्रृंगार किया और चल पड़ी अपने प्रियतम स्याम सुंदर से मिलने।
जैसे कोई नदी सागर में मिलने को आतुर होती है उसी प्रकार श्रीराधा अपने प्रियतम स्याम सुंदर के अंक में समा जाने को आतर हो रही थीं।
रिमझिम बरसती फुहारों के बीच इन सखियों ने यमुना तट के पास के कुँज में एक दिव्य झूले का निर्माण किया। सखियों के आमन्त्रण पर श्रीराधा कृष्ण उस झूले पर विराजमान हो गये। ढोल, मृदंग आदि की थाप पर सखियाँ श्रीराधा कृष्ण को झूला झुलाने लगीं।
श्रीराधा माधव की इस माधुरी लीला से सारा वन क्षेत्र जीवन्त हो उठा। कोयल कूकने लगीं, मयूर नृत्य करने लगे, हिरन कुलाँचे मारने लगे। जिसने भी इस दिव्य आनन्द का दर्शन किया उसका जीवन धन्य हो गया।
हिंडोरे झूलत स्यामा-स्याम। नव नट-नागर, नवल नागरी, सुंदर सुषमा-धाम।। सावन मास घटा घन छाई, रिमझिम बरसत मेह। दामिनी दमकत, चमकत गोरी बढ़त नित्य नव नेह।
हँसत-हँसावत रस बरसावत सखी-सहचरी-बृंद। उमग्यौ आनँद-सिंन्धु, मगन भए दोऊ आनँद-कंद।।
Shravan is the favorite month. There are dark clouds in the sky. Lightning is flashing. The clouds are also roaring loudly. The coolness of the drizzling showers is making the body rejoice. The fragrance of flowers like Champa, Jasmine, Mogra, Malti etc. is spread in the air. Koel Kuhu is teasing Kuhu’s sweet tone. The swans are playing in the lakes. The whole Braj region is rejoicing with the sounds of dadur, peacock, papihe. In such a pleasant environment, Lalita Sakhi called her other friends – Vishakha, Chitra, Indulekha, Sudevi, Champakalata, Rangadevi and Tungavidya etc. To make today’s pleasant weather even more melodious, these sakhis have also brought their musical instruments with them. Going into the forest, when the sakhis saw that Krishna alone was playing the Vanshi under the Kadamba tree, they immediately went to the Brishabhanu Bhavan and started asking Shri Radhaji to take them to the forest. The sakhis dressed Sri Radha ji in a safflower colored sari and adorned her with flowers from nail to head and went on to meet their beloved Siam Sunder. Just as a river is eager to meet in the ocean, similarly Sriradha was getting ready to merge into the number of her beloved Siam Sundar. In the midst of drizzling rain, these sakhis built a divine swing in the pool near the banks of the Yamuna. On the invitation of the sakhis, Shri Radha Krishna got seated on that swing. On the beats of drums, mridang etc., the friends started swinging Sri Radha Krishna. The entire forest area came alive with this Madhuri Leela of Sri Radha Madhav. The cuckoo started to cook, the peacock started dancing, the deer started licking. Whoever saw this divine bliss, his life became blessed. Indoor swinging Siamese-Siamese. Nav Nat-Nagar, Naval Nagari, Beautiful Sushma-Dham. The month of Sawan is cloudy, drizzling rain. Damini glowing, shining fair edge Nitya Nav Neh.
