एक इल्ली और घुण था | इल्ली बोली आओ घुण कार्तिक स्नान करे घुण बोला तू ही कार्तिक स्नान कर ले | मैं तो नही करूंगा | बाद में इल्ली तो राजा की लडकी के पल्ले के लगकर कार्तिक स्नान करती | घुण ने कार्तिक स्नान नहीं किया | दोनों मर गये | बाद में इल्ली के कार्तिक स्नान के पुण्य कें कारण राजा के घर जन्म हुआ और घुण राजा के घर गधा बन गया |
राजा ने बेटी के विवाह का सावा निकाला | बेटी ससुराल जाने लगी तो उसने अपनी पालकी रुकवाई और राजा से कहा यह गधा मुझे चाहिए |तब राजा ने कहा यह मत ले चाहे और धन दोलत ले ले पर लडकी नही मानी | मुझे तो यही चाहिए | गधे को रथ के बांध दिया तो गधा दोड़ने लगा | महल में पहुचने पर गधे को महल के नीचे बांध दिया | जब लडकी नीचे उतरती तो तो गधा कहता मुझे पानी पिलादे तब लडकी ने कहा मेने पहले ही कहा था कार्तिक स्नान कर ले पर तूने कहा था मैं तो बाजरा खौऊगा और ठंडा – ठंठा पानी पीऊगा | उनको बाते करते राजा ने सुन लिया , जब राजा ने कहा कि आप मुझे सारी बात बताओ तब रानी { लडकी } ने राजा को सारी बात बताई कि में पिछले जन्म में इल्ली थी और ये घुण था | तब मेने कहा तू भी कार्तिक नहा ले पर वह नहीं नहाया |
मैं कार्तिक स्नान के पुण्य से राजा के घर लडकी हुई और आपके घर में राज पाठ कर रही हु | तब राजा ने कहा कि कार्तिक स्नान का इतना पुण्य है तो हम दोनों जोड़े से न्हायेगे | रानी – राजा ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न मन से कार्तिक स्नान कर दोनों ने दान – पुण्य किया और सारी नगरी में कहलवा दिया की सब कार्तिक स्नान कर नहाया हुआ पानी घुण पे डालेगे जिससे घुण की मोक्ष हुई | हे ! कार्तिक भगवान [विष्णु भगवान ] जैसा सुख़ इल्ली को दिया वैसा सबको देना | कहता न सुनता न हूकारा भरता न म्हारा सारा परिवार न |

Then the king said that if Kartik bath has such a virtue, then we will take bath with both the pairs. The queen-king took a bath in Kartik with a very happy heart and both did charity and made it to be said in the whole city that everyone after taking a bath in Karthik would pour the bathed water on the ghun, which led to the salvation of the ghun.
