धनके दुरुपयोगका परिणाम

बहुत दिनोंकी बात है। बगदादमें हसन नामका एक व्यक्ति रहता था। वह खलीफाके यहाँ नौकर था। उसने नौकरीसे बहुत धन कमाया और सोने-चाँदीकी प्यास बढ़ती देखकर वह बड़ी दीनता और सादगीसे जीवन बिताने लगा। धीरे-धीरे उसकी लालच बढ़ने लगी। उसने अपनी सारी कमाई जमीनमें गाड़ दी।

‘फातिमा ! तुम बाजारमें लोगोंसे कह दो कि खलीफाने मुझे कारागारमें डाल दिया है। यह सुनकर लोग तुम्हारे प्रति सहानुभूति प्रकट करेंगे और भोजन तथा जीवन निर्वाहके लिये रुपये-पैसे देंगे। रही मेरी बात सो मैं रातमें घर आया करूँगा।’ हसनने अपनी पत्नीको समझाया। इस प्रकार धन कमानेका एक और उपाय उसे सूझ पड़ा। लोभ तो सदा बढ़ता ही जाता है। हसनको इस उपायसे भी संतोष न हुआ। उसने अपने सम्बन्धियोंको भी धोखा देना आरम्भ किया। ज्यों-ज्यों धन बढ़ता गया, त्यों-त्यों उसकी कृपणताके पंख निकलने लगे और बात यहाँतक आ पहुँची कि खलीफाके महलसे वह नित्यप्रति एक-एक रत्न लाने लगा। “इन रत्नोंको स्वर्ण मुद्राओंसे बदलकर हमलोग बगदादसे दूर भाग चलेंगे। सुखपूर्वक जीवन बितायेंगे।’

हसनने फातिमासे कहा।

‘बाजारमें तुम्हारी पत्नीने राजमहलसे चोरी गया एकरत्न बेचना चाहा। यह बात साफ है कि तुम चोर हो । तुम्हारे पास खाने-पीनेके लिये काफी धन था, पर तुमने उसका दुरुपयोग तो किया ही, साथ-ही-साथ बाजारवालों, सम्बन्धियों और मुझको धोखा दिया। इतने बड़े अपराधका दण्ड यह है कि बाजारवालोंको तुम धन दो. सम्बन्धियोंको ठगनेके अपराधमें तुम्हें सिरसे पैरतक पीटा जाय और राजमहलमें चोरी करनेके लिये तुम दोनोंको शूली पर चढ़ा दिया जाय।’ खलीफाने न्यायालयका
निर्णय सुनाया। पर दोनोंके बहुत चिल्लाने-घिघियानेपर उन्होंने आदेश दिया कि बेईमानी और धोखेसे कमाये धनको अपने गलेमें बाँधकर घर जाओ। सारे बाजारमें उनकी ओरसे घोषणा कर दी गयी कि ‘कोई व्यक्ति हसन और उसकी पत्नीको सोनेके सिक्कोंके बदले खाने-पीने और पहनने-ओढ़नेका कोई सामान न दे।’

घर आनेपर हसनदम्पति बहुत प्रसन्न थे । उन्होंने सिक्कोंको गिनना आरम्भ किया। दो-एक दिनके बाद वे भूखों मरने लगे। उनकी समझमें धनके दुरुपयोगका परिणाम आ गया। खलीफाके न्यायालयमें उपस्थित होकर दोनोंने सारी सम्पत्ति रख दी। खलीफाने बाजारवालों तथा सम्बन्धियोंमें उसका समवितरण कर दिया।

हसन-दम्पति अपनी कमाईपर निर्भर होकर सरलता, निष्कपटता और सच्चाईसे जीवन बिताने लगे। उन्हें इस बातका ज्ञान हो गया कि धन एकत्र करनेमें नहीं, उसके | सदुपयोगमें महान् लाभ है। – रा0 श्री0

Long time ago. A man named Hasan lived in Baghdad. He was a servant of the Caliph. He earned a lot of money from the job and seeing the increasing thirst for gold and silver, he started living a life of great humility and simplicity. Gradually his greed started increasing. He buried all his earnings in the ground.
‘ Fatima! You tell the people in the market that the Caliph has put me in jail. Hearing this, people will show sympathy towards you and give money for food and living. As for me, I will come home at night.’ Hasan explained to his wife. In this way he thought of another way to earn money. Greed always goes on increasing. Hasan was not satisfied even with this solution. He started cheating his relatives also. As the money increased, the wings of his miserliness started coming out and it came to the point that he started bringing one gem every day from the Khalifa’s palace. “Exchanging these gems for gold coins, we will run away from Baghdad. Live happily.’
Hasan said to Fatimah.
‘Your wife wanted to sell a jewel stolen from the palace in the market. It is clear that you are a thief. You had enough money to eat and drink, but you misused it, along with it you cheated the marketers, relatives and me. The punishment for such a big crime is that you give money to the marketers. You should be beaten from head to toe for the crime of cheating your relatives and both of you should be crucified for stealing in the palace.’ caliphal court
Gave the decision. But on both of them shouting and whining, he ordered them to go home with the money earned dishonestly and fraudulently tied around their necks. An announcement was made on his behalf in the whole market that ‘No one should give Hasan and his wife anything to eat, drink or wear in exchange for gold coins’.
The Hassan couple were very happy on coming home. He started counting the coins. After a day or two they started dying of hunger. He understood the consequences of misuse of money. Appearing in the Khalifa’s court, both of them kept all the property. The Caliph distributed it equally among the marketers and relatives.
Hasan-couple depended on their earnings and started living with simplicity, honesty and truthfulness. He came to know that it is not in collecting money, There is great benefit in good use. – Ra0 Mr.0
