वैभवको धिक्कार है!

सम्राट् भरतको चक्रवर्ती बनना था। वे दिग्विजय कर चुके थे, किंतु अभी वह अधूरी थी; क्योंकि उनके छोटे भाई पोदनापुरनरेश बाहुबलिने उनकी अधीनता स्वीकार नहीं की थी। बाहुबलिके पास संदेश भेजा गया। तो उन्होंने उत्तर दिया- ‘महासम्राट् पिता श्रीऋषभदेव महाराजने मुझे यह राज्य दिया था। मैं अपने ज्येष्ठ भ्राताका सम्मान करता हूँ; किंतु वे इस राज्यपर कुदृष्टिन डालें।’

भरतको तो चक्रवर्ती सम्राट् बनना था। वे अपनी दिग्विजय अपूर्ण रहने देना नहीं चाहते थे। बाहुबलिके | उत्तरसे उनका क्रोध भड़क उठा। रणभेरी बजने लगी । चतुर मन्त्रियोंने सम्मति दी – ‘व्यर्थ नरसंहार करनेसे क्या लाभ? भाई-भाईका यह युद्ध है सम्राट् ! आप दोनों दृष्टियुद्ध, जलयुद्ध तथा मल्लयुद्ध करके परस्पर हीजय-पराजयका निर्णय कर लें ।’

दोनोंने यह सम्मति स्वीकार कर ली। परंतु दृष्टियुद्ध और जलयुद्धमें बाहुबलि विजयी हो गये। सम्राट् भरतने बाहुबलिको मल्लयुद्धके लिये ललकारा। दोनों भाई अखाड़े में उतरे। इस संघर्षमें भी भरतको जब जीतनेकी आशा नहीं रह गयी तब क्रोधपूर्वक उन्होंने छोटे भाईपर अपने पितासे प्राप्त अमोघ अस्त्र ‘चक्ररत्न’ का प्रयोग कर दिया। वे क्रोधमें यह भूल ही गये कि ‘चक्ररत्न’ कुटुम्बियों पर नहीं चलेगा। किंतु उन्हें अपनी भूल शीघ्र ज्ञात हो गयी। ‘चक्ररत्न’ बाहुबलिके समीप पहुँचकर लौट गया।

भरतने अन्याय किया था। उनके अन्यायसे बाहुबलिक्षुब्ध हो उठे। उन्होंने अपनी प्रचण्ड भुजाओंसे भरतको पृथ्वीसे ऊपर उठा लिया- ऊपर उठा लिया अपने सिरसे भी। एक क्षणमें वे भरतको पृथ्वीपर पछाड़ फेंकनेवाले थे। सहसा प्रज्ञाका उदय हुआ। बाहुबलिने धीरेसे भरतको सामने खड़ा कर दिया और बोले ‘भाई! क्षमा करना। इस राज्य और वैभवको धिक्कार है, जिसके मदसे अंधा होकर मनुष्य छोटे-बड़ेका मान करना भी भूल जाता है।’

भरत पुकारते रहे, प्रजाके लोग पुकारते रहे; किंतु बाहुबलि मल्लशालासे जो निकले तो फिर नहीं लौटे। उन्होंने दीक्षा ले ली। मोह-मायाकी सब गाँठें खोलकर वे निर्ग्रन्थ हो गये।

Emperor Bharat had to become Chakraborty. They had conquered Digvijaya, but it was still incomplete; Because his younger brother Podnapur Naresh Bahubali did not accept his submission. Message was sent to Bahubali. So he replied – ‘ Mahasamrat father Shri Rishabhdev Maharaj had given me this kingdom. I respect my elder brother; But they cast an evil eye on this state.
Bharat had to become Chakravarti Samrat. He did not want to let his Digvijay remain incomplete. Bahubali | The answer aroused his anger. Ranbheri started ringing. Clever ministers gave advice – ‘ What is the use of unnecessary massacre? This is a war between brothers, Emperor! You both decide victory and defeat by fighting with each other by fighting with eyes, fighting with water and wrestling.’
Both accepted this consent. But Bahubali became victorious in the sight war and water war. Emperor Bharat challenged Bahubali to a wrestling match. Both the brothers entered the arena. Even in this struggle, when Bharat had no hope of winning, he angrily used the infallible weapon ‘Chakraratna’ received from his father on the younger brother. In anger, he forgot that the ‘Chakraratna’ would not work on his family members. But he soon realized his mistake. ‘Chakraratna’ returned after reaching near Bahubali.
Bharat had done injustice. Bahubali was enraged by their injustice. He lifted Bharata above the earth with his fierce arms – lifted him above his head as well. In a moment they were about to throw Bharata on the earth. Suddenly wisdom emerged. Bahubali slowly made Bharat stand in front of him and said ‘Brother! pardon. Shame on this kingdom and glory, because of which man becomes blind and forgets to respect the big and the small.’
Bharat kept calling, the people kept calling; But Bahubali, who came out of the mallashala, did not return again. He took initiation. By untying all the knots of attachment and illusion, he became free from scriptures.
