अभिभावकोंको चाहिये कि संतानको सुसंस्कार दें
पूर्वकालमें मृत्युदेवके एक कन्या उत्पन्न हुई थी, जिसका नाम सुनीथा रखा गया था। वह पिताके कार्योंको देखती और सदा उन्हींका अनुकरण किया करती थी। एक दिन सुनीथा अपनी सखियोंके साथ खेलती हुई वनमें गयी। वहाँ उसने देखा कि गन्धर्वकुमार सुशंख भारी तपस्या में लगा हुआ है। सुनीथा प्रतिदिन वहाँ जाकर उस तपस्वीको सताने लगी। सुशंख रोज रोज उसके अपराधको क्षमा कर देता और कहता ‘जाओ, चली जाओ यहाँसे।’ उसके यों कहनेपर वहबालिका कुपित हो जाती और बेचारे तपस्वीको पीटने लगती थी। उसका यह बर्ताव देखकर एक दिन सुशंख बोला-‘कल्याणी । श्रेष्ठ पुरुष मारनेके बदले न तो मारते हैं और न किसीके गाली देनेपर कोच ही करते है; यही धर्मको मर्यादा है।’ सुनीथासे ऐसा कहकर वह धर्मात्मा गन्धर्व उसे अवला स्त्री जानकर बिना कुछ दण्ड दिये लौट गया।
सुनीयाने पिताके पास जाकर कहा-‘मैंने वनमें जाकर एक गन्धर्यकुमारको पीटा है. वह तपस्या कर रहा था। मेरे पीटनेपर उसने कहा है-मारनेवालेको मारना और गाली देनेवालेको गाली देना उचित नहीं है। पिताजी बताइये, उसके इस कथनका क्या तात्पर्य है?’
सुनीयाके इस प्रकार पूछनेपर भी मृत्युने उससे कुछ नहीं कहा। उसके प्रश्नका उत्तर ही नहीं दिया। तदनन्तर यह फिर वनमें गयी। सुशंख तपस्यामें लगा था। दुष्ट स्वभाववाली सुनोधाने उस श्रेष्ठ तपस्वीके पास जाकर उसे कोड़ोंसे पीटना आरम्भ किया। अब यह गन्धर्व अपने क्रोधको न रोक सका। यह उसको शाप देते हुए बोला-‘गृहस्थ धर्ममें प्रवेश करनेपर जब तुम्हारा अपने पति के साथ सम्पर्क होगा, तब तुम्हारे गर्भसे सब प्रकारके पापोंमें आसक और दुष्ट पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा।’ इस प्रकार साथ दे वह पुनः जाकर तपस्यायें ही लग गया।
गन्धर्वकुमारके चले जानेपर सुनीथा अपने पर आयी। वहाँ उसने पितासे सारा वृत्तान्त कह सुनाया। मृत्युने कहा- अरी। उस निर्दोष तपस्वीको तुमने क्यों भारा है? तपस्या में लगे हुए पुरुषको मारना यह तुम्हारे द्वारा उचित कार्य नहीं हुआ। मृत्यु ऐसा कहकर बहुत दुखी हो गये, परंतु अब हो ही क्या सकता था, उन्हें
समयपर सुनीथाको सुसंस्कार देने चाहिये थे। इसी शापके कारण सुनीथाके वेन जैसा नास्तिक और पापाचारी पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ। अतएव अभिभावकोंको अपनी सन्तानके
आचार-विचार तथा व्यवहारपर सतर्क दृष्टि रखते हुए उसके चित्तमें समय रहते उत्तम संस्कारोंका ही आधान करना चाहिये।
Parents should give good manners to their children
In the past, a daughter was born to Mrityudev, who was named Sunitha. She used to watch her father’s work and always followed him. One day Sunitha went to the forest while playing with her friends. There he saw that Gandharvkumar Sushankh was engaged in heavy penance. Sunitha went there everyday and started torturing that ascetic. Everyday Sushankh forgives his crime and says ‘Go, go away from here’. When he said this, the girl got angry and started beating the poor ascetic. Seeing this behavior of her, one day Sushankh said – ‘Kalyani. Eminent men neither kill in return nor do they coach when someone abuses them; This is the limit of religion. Saying this to Sunitha, the pious Gandharva returned without punishing her considering her to be an inferior woman.
Suniya went to her father and said – ‘I have beaten a Gandharya Kumar in the forest. He was doing penance. On beating me, he has said – It is not right to beat the one who hits and to abuse the one who abuses. Tell me father, what is the meaning of his statement?’
Even after Suniya asked like this, death did not say anything to her. Didn’t even answer his question. After that she again went to the forest. Sushankh was engaged in penance. Evil-tempered Sunodha went to that great ascetic and started beating him with whips. Now this Gandharva could not control his anger. He cursed her and said- ‘When you have contact with your husband after entering the household religion, then your womb will give birth to a wicked son who is prone to all kinds of sins.’ Support in this way, he went again and started doing penance.
When Gandharva Kumar left, Sunitha came to her rescue. There he told the whole story to his father. Death said – Hey. Why have you burdened that innocent ascetic?
