इसी कुर्सीपर आकर बैठूंगा !
‘अबे लड़के, उठ। आकर बैठ गया इंजीनियर साहबकी कुर्सीपर। ‘ – एक लड़केको उठाते हुए एक चपरासीने कहा।
लड़केको बड़ी चोट लगी। शारीरिक नहीं मानसिक।
हाईस्कूल पास करके वह गया था इंजीनियर साहबके दफ्तर में काम करनेवाले अपने गाँवके एक आदमीसे मिलने ।
वे जब मिलने आये तो पूछा- ‘बेटा! कैसे आये ?’
लड़का बोला-‘आया तो था किसी छोटी-मोटी नौकरीकी तलाशमें, पर अब मेरा इरादा बदल गया।’
‘क्या ?”
‘यही कि आज मैं जिस कुर्सीपरसे अपमानित करके उठा दिया गया हूँ, उसी कुर्सीपर आकर बैठूंगा।’ और सचमुच एक दिन वह उसी कुर्सीपर आकर बैठा। अपने साहसकी बदौलत। अपनी मेहनतकी बदौलत ।
मजा यह कि जिन इंजीनियर साहबकी वह कुर्सी थी. उन्होंको उसके नीचे काम करना पड़ा।

इस लड़केका नाम था गंगाराम। पंजाबका यह गंगाराम सारे देशमें मशहूर हुआ। उसने खूब कष्ट उठाकर इंजीनियरी पास की। अपने हुनरमें अच्छी-से अच्छी योग्यता प्राप्त की। उसकी बनायी सरकारी इमारतों, पुलों आदिपर पंजाबको नाज है।
उसने खूब नाम कमाया। खूब रुपया कमाया। उसे ‘सर’ की उपाधि मिली।
इतना ही नहीं, पैसेका उसने खूब अच्छा उपयोग भी किया। विधवाओं, गरीबों, अनाथोंके आँसू पोंछे ।
उनके लिये उसने जगह-जगह सहायताके केन्द्र खोले।
इसका नाम है साहस। इसका नाम है लगन । इसका नाम है मेहनत। आओ, हम बनें ऐसे ही साहसी – और मेहनती।
