रास्तेकी तलाश
एक राजा राजकाजसे मुक्ति चाहते थे। एक दिन उन्होंने राजसिंहासन अपने उत्तराधिकारीको सौंपा और राजमहल छोड़कर चल पड़े। उन्होंने विद्वानोंके साथ सत्संग किया, तपस्या की, पर उनके मनमें अतृप्ति बनी रही। मनमें खिन्नताका भाव लिये वे तीर्थयात्रापर निकल पड़े। एक दिन चलते-चलते वे काफी थक गये और भूखके कारण निढाल होने लगे। राजा पगडण्डीसे उतरकर एक खेतमें रुके और एक पेड़के नीचे बैठकर सुस्ताने लगे। खेतमें आये पथिकको देखकर एक किसान उनके पास जा पहुँचा। वह उनका चेहरा देखकर ही समझ गया कि यह व्यक्ति थका होनेके साथ ही भूखा भी है। किसानने हाँडीमें उबालनेके लिये चावल डाले, फिर राजासे कहा- ‘उठो, चावल पकाओ। जब चावल पक जायँ, तब मुझे आवाज दे देना। हम दोनों इससे पेट भर लेंगे।’
राजा मन्त्रमुग्ध होकर किसानकी बात सुनते रहे। किसानके जानेके बाद उन्होंने चावल पकाने शुरू कर दिये। जब चावल पक गये, तो उन्होंने किसानको बुलाया और दोनोंने भरपेट चावल खाये। फिर किसान काममें लग गया और राजाको ठण्डी छाँवमें गहरी नींद आ गयी। सपनेमें उन्होंने देखा कि एक दिव्य पुरुष खड़ा होकर कह रहा है- ‘मैं कर्म हूँ और मेरा आश्रय पाये बगैर किसीको शान्ति नहीं मिलती। तुम्हें सब कुछ बिना कर्म किये प्राप्त हो गया है। तुम एक बनी-बनायी प्रणालीका संचालन कर रहे हो। इसलिये तुम्हें जीवनसे विरक्ति हो रही है। तुम कर्म करो। कर्म करनेका एक अलग ही सुख है। इससे तुम्हारे भीतर जीवनके प्रति लगाव पैदा होगा।’
राजाकी आँखें खुल गयीं। उन्हें लगा कि उन्हें रास्ता मिल गया। [ श्रीरामकिशोरजी ]
looking for a way
A king wanted freedom from royalty. One day he handed over the throne to his successor and left the palace. He did satsang with scholars, did penance, but his mind remained unsatisfied. With a feeling of sadness in his heart, he set out on a pilgrimage. One day, he got very tired while walking and started getting tired due to hunger. The king got down from the footpath and stopped in a field and started relaxing by sitting under a tree. Seeing the wanderer coming to the field, a farmer went to him. Seeing his face, he understood that this person was tired as well as hungry. The farmer put rice in the pot to boil, then said to the king – ‘Get up, cook rice. When the rice is cooked, then call me. Both of us will fill our stomachs with this.
The king kept listening to the farmer being mesmerized. After the farmer left, they started cooking rice. When the rice was cooked, he called the farmer and both of them ate their fill of rice. Then the farmer got busy and the king fell asleep in the cool shade. In the dream he saw a divine man standing and saying- ‘I am Karma and no one gets peace without taking my shelter. You have got everything without doing any work. You are operating a ready-made system. That’s why you are getting detached from life. You do the work There is a different pleasure in doing work. This will create attachment towards life within you.
