एकाग्रताका बल
इंग्लैण्डके इतिहासमें ‘एल्फ्रेड’ का नाम बड़े सम्मान से लिया जाता है। एल्फ्रेडने प्रजाकी भलाईक लिये अनेक साहसिक कार्य किये, जिससे वह महान् एल्फ्रेड (एल्फ्रेड द ग्रेट) के नामसे पुकारा जाता है।
प्रारम्भमें एल्फ्रेड भी एक साधारण राजाकी तरह ‘खाओ पियो और वैभव-विलासमें डूबे रहो’ का जीवन जीने लगा। एक दिन ऐसा भी आया, जब उसकी यह सुस्ती शत्रुओंके लिये वरदान सिद्ध हुई। एल्फ्रेडका राज्य औरोंने हड़प लिया और उसे गद्दीसे उतारकर मार भगाया।
इधर-उधर मारे-मारे फिर रहे एल्फ्रेडको एक किसान के घर नौकरी करनी पड़ी। उसे बर्तन माँजने, पानी भरने और चौकेका काम सौंपा गया। उसके कामकी देख-रेख किसानकी स्त्री करती थी। एल्फ्रेड छिपे वेशमें जिन्दगी काटने लगा।
एक दिन किसानकी स्त्रीको किसी आवश्यक कामसे बाहर जाना पड़ा। बटलोईपर दाल चड़ी थी, सो उसने एल्फ्रेडसे कहा कि ‘जबतक मैं वापस नहीं आ जाती, तुम बटलोईकी दालका ध्यान रखना।’ यह कहकर स्त्री वहाँसे चली गयी।
काम पूराकर जब वह लौटी तो स्त्रीने देखा कि एल्फ्रेड एक ओर बैठा हुआ कुछ सोच रहा है और बटलोईकी सारी दाल जल चुकी है। स्त्रीने कहा-‘मूर्ख नवयुवक! लगता है तुझपर एल्फ्रेडकी छाया पड़ गयी है, तू भी उसकी तरह मारा-मारा घूमेगा।’
बेचारी स्त्रीको क्या पता था कि जिससे बात कर रही है, वह एल्फ्रेड ही है, पर एल्फ्रेडको अपनी भूलका पता चल गया। उसने यह बात गाँठ बाँध ली, आजसे जो भी काम करूंगा, एकाग्र चित्तसे करूंगा। कल्पनाके किले बनाते रहने से कोई लाभ नहीं।
एल्फ्रेड एक बार फिर सहयोगियोंसे मिला। धन संग्रह किया, सेना एकत्रित की और दुश्मनपर चढ़ाई करके लन्दनको फिरसे जीत लिया।
power of concentration
The name of ‘Alfred’ is taken with great respect in the history of England. Alfred did many adventures for the welfare of the people, due to which he is called the great Alfred (Alfred the Great).
In the beginning, Alfred also started living the life of ‘eat, drink and be immersed in luxury’ like an ordinary king. A day also came when this laziness of his proved to be a boon for the enemies. Alfred’s kingdom was usurped by others and he was dethroned and killed.
Alfredo, wandering here and there, had to take up a job at a farmer’s house. He was assigned the work of washing utensils, filling water and chowke. The farmer’s wife used to look after his work. Alfred started living life in disguise.
One day the farmer’s wife had to go out for some important work. Batloi was covered in lentils, so he told Alfred, ‘You take care of Batloi’s lentils until I come back.’ Saying this the woman left from there.
When she returned after completing the work, the woman saw that Alfred was sitting on one side thinking something and all the lentils of Batloi were burnt. The woman said – ‘Stupid young man! It seems Alfred’s shadow has fallen on you, you will also roam around like him.’
How did the poor woman know that it was Alfred to whom she was talking, but Alfred realized his mistake. He tied this thing in a knot, whatever work I will do from today, I will do it with a concentrated mind. There is no use in building forts of imagination.
Alfred once again met with the allies. Collected money, gathered army and attacked the enemy and won London again.
