श्रीगदाधर भट्ट बड़े ही रसिक तथा भगवद्विश्वासी भक्त थे। ये श्रीचैतन्यमहाप्रभुके समकालीन थे। एक दिन रातको भट्टजीके घरमें एक चोरने सेंध लगायी। मालमतेकी गठरी बाँधकर चोर ले जाना चाहता था; परंतु गठरी बहुत भारी हो गयी थी, वह उसे उठा नहीं पा रहा था। इतनेमें भट्टजी लघुशङ्काको उठे और चोरकी यह दशा देखकर उन्हें बड़ी दया आयी। उन्होंने प्रेमसे कहा ‘लो, मैं उठाये देता हूँ।’ चोरने भट्टजीको देखते ही भागनाचाहा। भट्टजीने उसे आश्वासन देते हुए कहा- भैया ! भागते क्यों हो। कोई डर नहीं है; तुम्हें जरूरत थी, इसीसे इतनी अँधेरी रातमें तुम इतने कष्टसे लेने आये हो!’ चोर | लज्जित हो गया, भट्टजीके बड़े आग्रहसे चोर गठरी अपने घर ले गया, परंतु उसका मन बदल चुका था। वह सबेरै | गठरी लेकर लौटा और भट्टजीके चरणोंपर गिरकर रोने लगा। भट्टजीने उसे हृदयसे लगा लिया। चोरका अन्तःकरण शुद्ध हो गया। वह सदाके लिये साधुचरित्र हो गया।
Shri Gadadhar Bhatt was a great lover and devotee of God. He was a contemporary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. One night a thief broke into Bhattji’s house. The thief wanted to tie a bundle of Malmate and take it away; But the bundle had become very heavy, he was not able to lift it. In the meantime, Bhattji got suspicious and felt great pity after seeing this condition of the thief. He said with love, ‘Take it, I will lift it.’ The thief wanted to run away on seeing Bhattji. Bhattji assured him and said – Brother! Why are you running have no fear; You needed it, that’s why you have come with so much pain in such a dark night!’ thief | Ashamed, the thief took the bundle to his home on Bhattji’s insistence, but his mind had changed. That morning Returned with the bundle and fell at the feet of Bhattji and started crying. Bhattji hugged him. The thief’s conscience became pure. He became a saint forever.
