[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
पत्नी-वियोग और प्रत्यागमन
पतिर्हि देवो नारीणां पतिर्बन्धुः पतिर्गतिः।
पत्युर्गतिसमा नास्ति दैवतं वा यथा पतिः।।
पत्नी गृहस्थाश्रम में एक सर्वश्रेष्ठ और सर्वप्रधान वस्तु है, गृहिणी के बिना गृहस्थ ही नहीं। पत्नी गृहस्थ के कार्यों में मन्त्री है, सेवा करने में दासी है, भोजन कराने में माता के समान है, शयन में रम्भा के समान सुखदात्री है, धर्म के कार्यों में अर्धांगिनी है, क्षमा में पृथ्वी के समान है अर्थात् गृहस्थ की योग्य गृहिणी ही सर्वस्व है। जिसके घर में सुचतुर सुन्दरी और मृदुभाषिणी गृहिणी मौजूद है, उसके यहाँ सर्वस्व है, उसे किसी चीज की कमी ही नहीं और जिसके गृहिणी ही नहीं, उसके है ही क्या? लोकप्रिय निमाई पण्डित की पत्नी लक्ष्मीदेवी ऐसी ही सर्वगुणसम्पन्ना गृहिणी थीं। वे पति को प्राणों के समान प्यार करती थीं, सास की तन-मन से सदा सेवा करती रहती थीं और सदा मधुर और कोमल वाणी से बोलती थीं। उनका नाम ही लक्ष्मीदेवी नहीं था, वस्तुतः उनमें लक्ष्मीदेवी के सभी गुण भी विद्यमान थे। वे मत्र्यलोक में लक्ष्मी के ही समान थीं। ऐसी ही पत्नी को तो नीतिकारों ने लक्ष्मी बताया है-
यस्य भार्या शुचिर्दक्षा भर्तारमनुगामिनी।
नित्यं मधुरवक्त्री च सा रमा न रमा रमा।।
अर्थात ‘जिसकी भार्या पवित्रता रखने वाली, गृहकार्यों में दक्ष और अपने पति के मनोअनुकूल आचरण करने वाली है, जो सदा ही मीठी वाणी बोलती है, असल में तो वही लक्ष्मी है। लोग जो ‘लक्ष्मी-लक्ष्मी’ पुकारते हैं, वह कोई और लक्ष्मी नहीं हैं।’ निमाई पण्डित की पत्नी लक्ष्मीदेवी सचमुच में ही लक्ष्मी थीं। पूर्व बंगाल की यात्रा के समय माता के आग्रह से निमाई लक्ष्मीदेवी को उनके पितृगृह में कर गये थे। पति के वियोग के समय पतिव्रता लक्ष्मीदेवी ने बड़े ही प्रेम से अपने स्वामी के चरण पकड़ लिये ओर वियोग-वेदना का स्मरण करके वे फूट-फूटकर रोने लगीं। निमाई ने उन्हें धैर्य बँधाते हुए कहा- ‘इस प्रकार दुःखी होने की कौन-सी बात है? मैं बहुत ही शीघ्र लौटकर आ जाऊँगा, तब तक तुम यहीं रहो। मैं बहुत दिन के लिये थोड़े ही जाता हूँ। वैसे ही दस-बीस दिन घूम-घामकर आ जाऊँगा।’ उन्हें क्या पता था, कि यह लक्ष्मी देवी से अन्तिम ही भेंट है, इसके बाद लक्ष्मी देवी से इस लोक में फिर भेंट न हो सकेगी। लक्ष्मीदेवी को भाँति-भाँति से आश्वासन देकर निमाई पण्डित ने पूर्व बंगाल की यात्रा की। इधर लक्ष्मीदेवी पति के वियेाग में खिन्न चित्त से दिन गिनने लगीं, उन्हें पति के बिना यह सम्पूर्ण संसार सूना-ही-सूना दृष्टिगोचर होता था। उन्हें संसार में पति के सिवा प्रसन्न करने वाली कोई भी वस्तु नहीं थी।
प्रसन्नता की मूल वस्तु के अभाव में उनकी प्रसन्नता एकदम जाती रही, वे सदा उदास ही बनी रहने लगीं। उदासी के कारण उन्हें अन्न-जल कुछ भी अच्छा नहीं लगता था। उनकी अग्नि मन्द हो गयी, पाचनशक्ति नष्ट हो गयी ओर विरह-ज्वाला के ताप से सदा ज्वर-सा रहने लगा। पिता ने चिकित्सकों को दिखाया, किन्तु बेचारे संसारी वैद्य इस रोग का निदान कर ही क्या सकते हैं! वात, पित्त, कफ के सिवा वे चैथी बात जानते ही नहीं हैं। यह इन तीनों से विलक्षण ही धातु-विकार व्याधि है, इस कारण वैद्यों के उपचार से कोई विशेष लाभ नहीं हुआ। धीरे-धीरे लक्ष्मी देवी का शरीर अधिकाधिक क्षीण होने लगा। किसी को भी उनके जीवन की आशा न रही। वे मानो अपने अत्यन्त क्षीण शरीर को अन्तिम बार पति-दर्शनों की लालसा से ही टिकाये हुए हैं, किन्तु उनकी यह अभिलाषा पूरी न हो सकी।
निमाई पण्डित को पूर्व बंगाल में अनुमान से अधिक दिन लग गये। अन्त में बड़े कष्ट के साथ वियोग-व्यथा को न सह सकने के कारण अपने पतिदेव के चरण-चिह्नों को हृदय में धारण करके उन्होंने इस पांचभौतिक शरीर का त्याग कर दिया। वे इस मर्त्यलोक की भूमि को त्यागकर सतियों के रहने योग्य अपने-पुण्य-लोक में पति-मिलन की आकांक्षा से चली गयीं। घरवालों ने रोते-रोते उनके सभी संस्कार किये। इधर निमाई पण्डित को पूर्व बंगाल में भ्रमण करते हुए कई मास बीच गये। अब इन्हें घर की चिन्ता होने लगी। इन्हें भान होने लगा कि हमारे घर पर जरूर कुछ अनिष्ट हुआ है, हृदय के भाव तो असंख्यों कोसों पर से हृदय में आ जाते हैं। लक्ष्मी देवी की अन्तिम वेदना इनके हृदय को पीड़ा पहुँचाने लगी। इन्हें अब कहीं आगे जाना अच्छा नहीं लगता था, इसलिये इन्होंने साथियों को नवद्वीप लौट चलने की आज्ञा दी।
आज्ञापाकर सभी नवद्वीप लौट चलने की तैयारियाँ करने लगे। बहुत-से नवीन छात्र भी विद्योपार्जन के निमित्त इनके साथ हो लिये थे। उन सभी को साथ लेकर ये नवद्वीप की ओर चल पड़े। इन्हें काफी धन तथा अन्य आवश्यकीय वस्तुएँ भेंट तथा उपहार में प्राप्त हुई थीं। थोडे़ दिनों में ये फिर नवद्वीप में ही आ गये। इनके आगमन का समाचार बिजली की तरह नगर में फैल गया। इनके इष्ट, मित्र, स्नेही तथा पुराने छात्र दर्शनों के लिये इनके घर पर आने लगे। ये सभी से यथोचित प्रेमपूर्वक मिले। सभी ने यात्रा के कुशल-समाचार पूछे। इन्होंने सबसे पहले अपनी माता के चरणों को स्पर्श किया। माता का चेहरा मुरझाया हुआ था, वे पुत्र-वधू के वियोग और पुत्र की चिन्ता के कारण अत्यन्त दुःखी-सी मालूम पड़ती थीं।
चिरकाल के बिछडे़ हुए अपने प्रिय पुत्र को पाकर माता के सुख का वारापार न रहा। गौ जिस प्रकार बिछुड़े हुए बछड़े को पाकर उसे प्रेम से चाटने लगती है उसी प्रकार माता निमाई के युवा शरीर के ऊपर अपना शीतल और कोमल कर फिराने लगीं। उनकी आँखों से निरन्तर प्रेमाश्रु निकल रहे थे। निमाई ने हँसते हुए पूछा- ‘अम्मा! सब कुशल तो है? मुझे अनुमान भी नहीं था, कि इतने दिन लग जायँगे, तुम्हें पीछे कोई कष्ट तो नहीं हुआ’ पुत्र के ऐसा पूछने पर माता चुप ही रहीं। तब किसी दूसरी स्त्री ने धीरे से लक्ष्मी देवी के परलोक-गमन की बात इनसे कह दी। सुनते ही इनके चेहरे पर दुःख, सन्ताप और वियोग के भाव प्रकट होने लगे। माता और भी जोरों के साथ्ज्ञ रुदन करने लगीं। निमाई की भी आँखों में अश्रु आ गये। उन्हें पोंछते हुए धीरे-धीरे वे माता को समझाने लगे- ‘माँ, विधि के विधान को मेट ही कौन सकता है? जो भाग्य में बदा होगा, वह तो अवश्य ही होकर रहेगा। इतने ही दिनों तक तुम्हारी पुत्र-वधू का तुमसे संयोग बदा था, इस बात को कौन जानता था?’
माता ने रोते-रोते कहा- ‘बेटा, अन्तिम समय में भी वह तेरे आने की ही बात पूछती रही। ऐसी बहू अब मुझे नहीं मिलेगी, साक्षात लक्ष्मी ही थी।’ निमाई यह सुनकर चुप हो गये। माता फिर बड़े जोरों से रोने लगीं। इस पर प्रभु ने कुछ जोर देकर कहा- ‘अम्मा! अब चाहे तू कितनी भी रोती रह, तेरी पुत्र-वधू तो अब लौटकर आने की नहीं। वह लौटने के लिये नहीं गयी है। अब तो धैर्य-धारण से ही काम चलेगा।’ पुत्र के ऐसे समझाने पर माता ने धैर्य-धारण करके अपने आँसू पोंछे और निमाई को स्नानादि करने के लिये कहा। फिर स्वयं उन सबके लिये भोजन बनाने में लग गयीं। भोजन से निवृत्त होकर निमाई पण्डित अपने इष्ट-मित्रों के साथ पूर्व बंगाल की यात्रा-सम्बन्धी बहुत- सी बातें करने लगे और फिर पूर्व की भाँति पाठशाला में जाकर पढ़ाने लगे।

There is nothing equal to the movement of a husband or a god like a husband
The wife is the best and most important thing in Grihasthashram, without a housewife there is no householder. The wife is a minister in the work of the householder, a maidservant in serving, is like a mother in providing food, a pleasant lady like Rambha in sleep, a better half in the work of religion, is like the earth in forgiveness, that is, the worthy housewife of the householder is everything. Is. The one in whose house there is a well-mannered, beautiful and soft-spoken housewife, he has everything, he does not lack anything, and the one who does not have a housewife, what does he have? Lakshmidevi, the wife of the popular Nimai Pandit, was such a virtuous housewife. She loved her husband like life, always used to serve her mother-in-law with body and mind and always spoke in sweet and soft voice. Her name was not only Laxmidevi, in fact all the qualities of Laxmidevi were also present in her. She was like Lakshmi in Matryaloka. Politicians have called such a wife as Lakshmi-
A man whose wife is chaste and skilful and who follows her husband
She is always sweet-spoken and not Rama Rama.
That is, ‘whose wife is chaste, skilled in household chores and behaves according to the mind of her husband, who always speaks sweetly, in reality she is Lakshmi. The one who people call ‘Lakshmi-Lakshmi’ is not any other Lakshmi.’ Lakshmidevi, the wife of Nimai Pandita, was actually Lakshmi. During his visit to East Bengal, on the request of his mother, Nimai Lakshmidevi was taken to her ancestral house. At the time of separation from her husband, Lakshmidevi, a devotee of husbands, held the feet of her lord with great love, and remembering the pain of separation, she started crying bitterly. Giving them patience, Nimai said- ‘What is the point of being sad like this? I will come back very soon, till then you stay here. I rarely go for many days. Similarly, I will come after wandering for ten to twenty days. Little did he know that this was the last meeting with Lakshmi Devi, after that he would not be able to meet Lakshmi Devi again in this world. Nimai Pandit traveled to East Bengal after giving various assurances to Lakshmidevi. Here Lakshmidevi started counting the days with a sad heart in the separation of her husband, without her husband this whole world seemed deserted. There was nothing in the world that could please her except her husband.
In the absence of the basic object of happiness, her happiness went away completely, she always remained sad. Due to sadness, he did not like food and water. His fire slowed down, his digestive power was destroyed and due to the heat of separation, he always remained feverish. The father showed the doctors, but what can the poor worldly doctors diagnose this disease! Apart from Vata, Pitta and Kapha, they don’t know the fourth thing at all. This is a unique metal-disorder disease from these three, due to which there was no special benefit from the treatment of doctors. Gradually, Lakshmi Devi’s body started to deteriorate more and more. No one had any hope for his life. As if she was supporting her extremely emaciated body only with the longing to see her husband for the last time, but her wish could not be fulfilled.
Nimai Pandit took more days than expected in East Bengal. In the end, unable to bear the pain of separation with great pain, she renounced this five physical body by holding the footprints of her husband in her heart. She left this land of mortals and went to her virtuous world, which is abode of satis, with the desire to meet her husband. The family members performed all his rites while crying. Here Nimai Pandit spent several months traveling in East Bengal. Now he started worrying about the house. They started realizing that something bad has definitely happened at our house, the feelings of the heart come to the heart from innumerable curses. The last pain of Lakshmi Devi started hurting his heart. He did not like to go anywhere further, so he ordered his companions to return to Navadweep.
After obeying everyone started making preparations to return to Navadweep. Many new students had also joined them for the sake of earning their education. Taking all of them with him, he started towards Navadweep. He had received a lot of money and other essential things in gifts and presents. In a few days, he again came to Navadweep. The news of his arrival spread like lightning in the city. His favorite, friends, affectionate and old students started coming to his house for darshan. He met everyone with due love. Everyone inquired about the good news of the journey. He first touched his mother’s feet. Mother’s face was withered, she seemed very sad due to separation from son and daughter-in-law and worry about son.
The mother’s happiness knew no bounds after finding her dear son who had been separated for ages. The way a cow finds a lost calf and licks it with love, in the same way, the young body of mother Nimai started roaming around with her soft and soft body. Tears of love were continuously coming out of his eyes. Nimai asked laughingly – ‘ Amma! Is everyone well? I didn’t even imagine that it would take so many days, didn’t you have any problem behind’ the mother remained silent when the son asked this. Then another woman gently told him about the passing of Lakshmi Devi to the other world. As soon as he heard this, feelings of sorrow, anger and separation started appearing on his face. Mother started crying even louder. Tears welled up in Nimai’s eyes too. While wiping them, he slowly started explaining to the mother- ‘Mother, who can break the rule of law? Whatever is destined to happen, will definitely happen. Who knew that your son-in-law and your daughter-in-law had had a chance encounter with you for so many days?’
The mother said while crying- ‘Son, even in the last moment she kept asking about your arrival. I will not get such a daughter-in-law now, she was actually Lakshmi. Nimai became silent after hearing this. Mother again started crying loudly. On this the Lord said with some emphasis – ‘ Amma! No matter how much you cry now, your daughter-in-law is not going to come back now. She has not gone to return. Now patience will do the trick.’ After the son’s explanation, the mother patiently wiped her tears and asked Nimai to take a bath. Then herself started cooking food for all of them. After retiring from food, Nimai Pandit started talking many things with his best friends about the journey to East Bengal and then went to school like before and started teaching.
