[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
नौरो जी डाकू का उद्धार
संसारसिन्धुतरणे हृदयं यदि स्यात।
संगीर्तनामृतरसे रमते मनश्चेत।
प्रेमाम्बुधौ विहरणे यदि चित्तवृत्ति
श्चैतन्यचन्द्रचरणं शरणं प्रयातु।।
प्रेम में न भय है, न द्वेष। जिसने प्रेम का प्याला पी लिया है, उसे संसार में सर्वत्र उसी एक परम प्रेमास्पद प्रभु का ही रूप दिखायी देता है, जब सभी अपने प्रेमास्पद हैं तो भय किसका। भय तो दूसरे से होता है। अपने-आपसे किसी को भय नहीं। द्वेष गैर से किया जाता है, जब सभी श्यामसुन्दर के हैं तब द्वेष किससे करें और क्यों करें? महाप्रभु गौरांगदेव इस प्रकार खाण्डवादेव में देव दासियों को श्रीकृष्ण-कीर्तन का उपदेश देकर आगे को चले। वहाँ से थोड़ी दूर पर एक चोरानन्दी वन था, इस वन में बहुत से डाकू बसते थे। उन सब डाकूओं का दलपति नौरोजी डाकू था, वह बड़ा ही क्रूर और हिसंक था। सभी लोग उसके नाम से थर्राते थे। उस प्रदेश में उसके नाम का आतंक था।
जब प्रभु ने उस वन में प्रवेश करने का विचार किया तो लोगों ने उन्हें वहाँ जाने से मना किया और कहा कि ‘वे डाकू बड़े हिंसक हैं, आप का उधर से जाना ठीक नहीं है।’ किन्तु महाप्रभु उनकी बात को क्यों मानने लगे। उन्होंने कहा-‘भाई, डाकू लोग तो रुपये-पैसे के लिये लोगों को मारते हैं। हम घर घर के भिखारी संन्यासी हैं, हमें मारकर वे क्या लेंगे? वे यदि हमारी जान ही लेना चाहते हों तो भले ही ले लें। इस शरीर से यदि किसी का भी काम चल जाय तो बड़ा उत्तम है।’ ऐसा कहकर प्रभु उस वन में घुस गये। वहाँ एक वृक्ष के नीचे प्रभु पड़ रहे और शनै: शनै: सुमधुर हरि नाम संकीर्तन करने लगे। दलपति नौरोजी ने सुना कि कोई संन्यासी यहाँ हमारे जंगल में आया है, वह अपने दल के अनेक पुरुषों के साथ प्रभु के पास आया और प्रभु को भोजन के लिये निमन्त्रित किया तथा अपने स्थान पर चलने का आग्रह किया। प्रभु ने कहा- ‘हम तो संन्यासी हैं, वृक्षतले ही हमारा आसन ठीक है, रही भोजन की बात, भिक्षा ही हमारा एकमात्र आधार है, आप जो भिक्षा ले आवेंगे उसे हम सहर्ष स्वीकार करेंगे।’
प्रभु की ऐसी आज्ञा पाकर उसने अपने दल के आदमियों को आज्ञा दी; वे बात की बात में भाँति-भाँति की खाने की सामग्री ले आये। महाप्रभु श्रीकृष्ण प्रेम में विभोर थे, उन्हें शरीर का ज्ञान ही नहीं था, वे प्रेम में गदगद कण्ठ से उन्मत्त की तरह कीर्तन कर रहे थे, कभी कभी नाचने भी लगते थे। नौराजी अपने दल बल सहित प्रभु को घेरे बैठा था।
महाप्रभु के इस अभूतपूर्व अलौकिक प्रभु प्रेम को देखकर उसका भी पत्थर जैसा हृदय पसीज गया। उसने जीवनभर लोगों की हिंसा की थी और डाके ही डाले थे। इस समय उसकी अवस्था साठ वर्ष के लगभग थी। महाप्रभु के अलौकिक प्रेम ने उस साठ वर्ष के बूढ़े डाकू के ऊपर भी अपना जादू डाल दिया। वह धीरे धीरे प्रभु के पादपपद्मों को पकड़कर कहने लगा- ‘स्वामी जी ! आप यह कौन सा मन्त्र उच्चारण कर रहे हैं, मुझे भी इस मन्त्र का उपदेश दीजिये। पता नहीं आपने मेरे ऊपर क्या जादू डाल दिया है कि अब मेरा मन हिंसा और डकैती से बिलकुल हट गया है। अब मैं भी आपके चरणों की शरण में रहकर निरन्तर श्रीकृष्ण-कीर्तन करना चाहता हूँ। आप मुझे इस मन्त्र का उपदेश दीजिये। भगवन ! मेरा जन्म वैसे तो ब्राह्मण-वंश में ही हुआ है। किन्तु बाल्यकाल से ही मैंने हिंसा और डकैती का काम किया है, आज तक कभी भी मेरे मन में इन कामों से वैराग्य नहीं हुआ, किन्तु न जाने आज आपके दर्शन से मुझे क्या हो गया कि अब कुछ अच्छा ही नहीं लगता। अब मैं आपके चरणों को नहीं छोडूँगा! आप मुझे अपनी पदधूलि प्रदान करके कृतार्थ कीजिये और जिस मन्त्र के संकीर्तन से आप इतने आनन्दमग्न हो रहे हैं उसका उपदेश मुझे भी कीजिये।’
प्रभु ने उसकी ऐसी आर्तवाणी सुनकर कहा- ‘नौराजी ! तुम बड़े ही भाग्यशाली हो, जो इस वृद्धावस्था में तुमको निर्वेद हुआ। श्रीकृष्ण कीर्तन ही संसार में सार है। ये धन रत्न तो सभी नश्वर और क्षणभंगुर हैं। तुम घबड़ाओ मत, भगवान तो प्रतिज्ञापूर्वक कहते हैं कि चाहे कोई कितना भी बड़ा दुराचारी क्यों न हो, यदि वह अनन्यभाव से मुझे भजता है, तो उसे साधु ही मानना चाहिये। दयालु श्री हरि ने तुम्हारे ऊपर परम कृपा की जो तुम्हें सदबुद्धि प्रदान की, अब तुम निरन्तर हरि नाम कीर्तन ही किया करो।’ ऐसा उपदेश करके प्रभु ने उसे महामन्त्र की दीक्षा दी।
प्रात:काल उठकर प्रभु ने चलने को तैयार हुए तो नौराजी ने भी अपने सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्र फेंक दिये और अपने दल के सब आदमियों को बुलाकर वह गदगद कण्ठ से कहने लगा- ‘भाइयो ! हम सब इतने दिन साथ रहे, तुम्हें मैं समय समय पर उचित-अनुचित आज्ञा देता रहा और तुमने भी प्राणों की कुछ भी परवा न करके मेरी समस्त आज्ञाओं का पालन किया। साथ में रहने से और नित्य के व्यवहारों से गलती और अपराधों का होना स्वाभाविक ही है; इसलिये भाई ! मुझसे जिसका भी अपकार हुआ हो, वह मुझे सच्चे हृदय से क्षमा कर दे। अब मैं अपने भगवान की शरण में जा रहा हूँ।
जिनकी शरण में जाने से पापी-से-पापी भी सुखी और निर्भय हो जाता है। अब मैं किसी जीव की हिंसा न करूँगा। आज से मेरे लिये सभी प्राणी उस परमपिता परमात्मा के पुत्र हैं। जान बूझकर अब मैं एक चींटी की भी हिंसा नहीं करूँगा। बाल्यकाल से अब तक मैंने धन के लिये न जाने कितने पाप किये हैं, कितनी हिंसाएँ की हैं। अरबों-करोड़ों रुपये इन हाथों से लूटे हैं और खर्च किये हैं। अब मैं द्रव्य को अपने हाथों से स्पर्श भी न करूँगा। अब तक हजारों आदमियों का मेरे द्वारा प्रतिपालन होता था, आज से मैं स्वयं भिखारी बन गया हूँ, अब पेट की ज्वाला को बुझाने के लिये मैं द्वार द्वार पर मधुकरी भिक्षा करूँगा। तुम लोग मुझे क्षमा करो और ऐसा आशीर्वाद दो कि मैं अपने शेष जीवन को इसी प्रकार श्रीकृष्ण प्रेम में पागल बनकर बिताऊँ।’
नौरोजी ने ऐसी बात सुनकर उसके दल के सभी डाकू रोने लगे। उसका दल छिन्न भिन्न हो गया, बहुतों ने डाका डालने का काम छोड़ दिया। नौरोजी प्रभु के साथ चल दिया।
आज तक बहुत से आदमियों ने प्रभु के साथ चलने की प्रार्थना की थी, किन्तु प्रभु ने किसी को भी साथ नहीं लिया। परम भाग्यवान नौरोजी के भाग्य की कोई कहाँ तक प्रशंसा करे, जिसे प्रभु ने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक साथ चलने की अनुमति दे दी।
आगे आगे महाप्रभु, उनके पीछे गोविन्द दास और सबसे पीछे नौरोजी संन्यासी चलते थे। इस प्रकार चलते चलते खण्डला में पहुँचे। वहाँ पर लोगों ने महाप्रभु का खूब सत्कार किया, वहाँ से चलकर प्रभु नासिक गये और वहाँ पंचवटी में नृत्य-कीर्तन करते हुए आनन्द में मग्न हो गये। नौरोजी महाप्रभु के श्रीअंग के पसीने को बार बार पोंछते रहते थे। उस समय के बड़ौदा के महाराज बड़े ही भक्त थे। उन्होंने बहुत द्रव्य लगाकर भगवान का एक मंदिर बनवाया था, उसमें स्वयं ही भगवान की पूजा तथा साधु महात्माओं का सत्कार करते थे। महाप्रभु श्रीकृष्ण की मूर्ति के दर्शन करके प्रेमानन्द में मग्न होकर नृत्य करने लगे। महाराज उनके अद्भुत नृत्य और अलौकिक प्रेम के भावों को देखकर मुग्ध हो गये। उन्होंने महाप्रभु का बहुत सत्कार किया। बहुत कुछ भेंट करने की इच्छा की किन्तु महाप्रभु ने संन्यास धर्म के अनुसार मुष्टि-भिक्षा के अतिरिक्त कुछ भी ग्रहण नहीं किया। बड़ौदा में ही आकर नौरोजी ने महाप्रभु के सामने अपने इस नश्वर शरीर का त्याग किया। महाप्रभु ने रोते रोते आत्मीय पुरुष की तरह एक भक्त वैष्णव की भाँति उसे अपने करकमलों से समाधि में सुला दिया। इस प्रकार जन्म से हिंसा और धन अपहरण करने वाला एक डाकू महाप्रभु की शरण आने से अमर हो गया।

If there is a heart to cross the ocean of the world. The mind delights in the nectar of music. If the instinct of the mind is to enjoy love in Mercury May the consciousness take refuge at the feet of the moon.
There is neither fear nor hatred in love. The one who has drunk the cup of love, everywhere in the world, he can see the form of the same supremely loving God, when everyone is loved by himself, then what to fear. Fear is from others. No one is afraid of himself. Enmity is done with others, when everyone belongs to Shyamsundar, then who should be envious and why? In this way Mahaprabhu Gaurangadeva went ahead by preaching Shri Krishna-Kirtan to the female deities in Khandvadev. There was a Choranandi forest at a little distance from there, many dacoits used to live in this forest. The leader of all those dacoits was Naoroji dacoit, he was very cruel and violent. Everyone used to tremble at his name. There was terror in his name in that region.
When Prabhu thought of entering that forest, people forbade him to go there and said that ‘those dacoits are very violent, it is not right for you to go from there.’ But why did Mahaprabhu listen to them? He said – ‘Brother, dacoits kill people for money. We are beggar monks from every house, what will they get by killing us? If they want to take our lives, they may do so. If anyone’s work can be done with this body, then it is very good. ‘ Saying this, the Lord entered that forest. There the Lord was lying under a tree and gradually started chanting the melodious name of Hari. Dalpati Naoroji heard that some sannyasin has come here in our forest, he came to the Lord with many men of his party and invited the Lord for food and urged him to go to his place. The Lord said- ‘We are monks, our seat is right under the tree, the matter of food, alms is our only support, we will gladly accept the alms you bring.’
After receiving such command from the Lord, he ordered the men of his party; They brought different types of food items in the matter of talk. Mahaprabhu Shri Krishna was engrossed in love, he had no knowledge of the body, he was doing kirtan like a maniac with a voice full of love, sometimes even started dancing. Nauraji was sitting surrounded by the Lord along with his force.
Seeing this unprecedented supernatural love of Mahaprabhu, even his heart melted like a stone. He had committed violence and dacoits throughout his life. At this time his condition was about sixty years. The supernatural love of Mahaprabhu cast its spell on that sixty year old dacoit as well. Slowly holding the lotus feet of the Lord, he started saying – ‘Swamiji! Which mantra are you reciting, teach me this mantra as well. I don’t know what spell you have put on me that now my mind has completely turned away from violence and dacoity. Now I also want to do Krishna-Kirtan continuously by staying in the shelter of your feet. You teach me this mantra. God ! I was born in a Brahmin dynasty anyway. But since childhood, I have done acts of violence and dacoity, till date I have never had disinterest in these works, but don’t know what has happened to me today due to your visit that I do not like anything now. Now I will not leave your feet! You do me a favor by giving me the dust of your feet and teach me the mantra by whose chanting you are so happy.’
The Lord said after listening to her such an expression – ‘Nauraji! You are very lucky that you got Nirved in this old age. Shri Krishna Kirtan is the essence in the world. All these gems of wealth are mortal and transitory. Don’t worry, God says with a promise that no matter how big a miscreant someone may be, if he worships me exclusively, then he should be considered a saint. Merciful Sri Hari has blessed you with the supreme grace that has given you good sense, now you should do kirtan of Hari’s name continuously.
Waking up early in the morning, when Prabhu got ready to leave, Nauraji also threw away all his weapons and after calling all the men of his party, he started saying in a gleeful voice – ‘Brothers! We all stayed together for so many days, I kept giving you right and wrong orders from time to time and you also obeyed all my orders without caring for your life. It is only natural for mistakes and crimes to happen by living together and by daily practices; That’s why brother! Whoever has done me a disservice, forgive me with a true heart. Now I am going to the refuge of my Lord.
By taking whose refuge even the worst of sinners becomes happy and fearless. Now I will not do violence to any living being. From today onwards, all living beings are sons of that Supreme Father Supreme Soul for me. Knowingly now I will not do violence to even an ant. From childhood till now, I have committed innumerable sins and violence for the sake of wealth. Billions and crores of rupees have been looted by these hands and spent. Now I will not even touch the substance with my hands. Till now thousands of men were patronized by me, from today I myself have become a beggar, now I will beg for honey from door to door to extinguish the fire in my stomach. Please forgive me and bless me so that I may spend the rest of my life madly in love with Krishna like this.’
Naoroji heard such a thing and all the dacoits of his party started crying. His crew disintegrated, many gave up the job of dacoity. Naoroji went with the Lord.
Till date many men had prayed to walk with the Lord, but the Lord did not take anyone along. How far can one praise the fate of the most fortunate Naoroji, whom the Lord graciously allowed to walk along.
Mahaprabhu used to walk in the front, Govind Das behind him and Naoroji Sanyasi at the back. Walking like this, reached Khandla. There the people felicitated Mahaprabhu a lot, from there the Lord went to Nasik and there he became engrossed in joy while dancing and singing in Panchavati. Naoroji used to wipe the sweat of Mahaprabhu’s body again and again. The Maharaja of Baroda at that time was a great devotee. He had built a temple of God by spending a lot of money, in that he himself used to worship God and the sages used to give hospitality to the Mahatmas. Seeing the idol of Mahaprabhu Shri Krishna, he started dancing engrossed in love. Maharaj was mesmerized by her amazing dance and expressions of supernatural love. He honored Mahaprabhu a lot. Wanted to offer a lot but Mahaprabhu did not accept anything except fist-alms according to Sannyas Dharma. Coming to Baroda itself, Naoroji sacrificed his mortal body in front of Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu, like a devotee of Vaishnav, made him sleep in the samadhi with his karkamals like a soulful man crying. Thus a dacoit who was born violent and abducted money became immortal by taking refuge in Mahaprabhu.
