अपने नवजात बच्चे को श्रीकृष्ण कवच के पाठ द्वारा सुरक्षित रखने का यह बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण स्तोत्र है।
गर्ग संहिता के गोलोकखंड के नारद-बहुलाश्य संवाद में ‘पूतना मोक्ष’ नामक अध्याय में इसका वर्णन मिलता है।
श्रीकृष्ण कवच नामक ये मन्त्र पढने से मान्यता है कि नवजात को मृत्यु का भय नहीं रहता।
एक मोर पंख लेकर उसे गंगा जल से साफ़ कर, बालक के सिर से आरम्भ कर शरीर के हर भाग को स्पर्श करा कर, पंख से पानी के छींटे भूमि पर छिड़किए व साथ साथ नीचे लिखे मन्त्र का जाप स्वयं कीजिये।
योगेश्वर वासुदेव कृष्ण के आशीर्वाद से बच्चे कई प्रकार के रोगों से स्वयं ही मुक्त होकर दीर्घायु प्राप्त करते हैं।
अथ श्री कृष्ण कवचं *
श्री कृष्णस्ते शिरः पातु बैकुंठ: कंठमेव हि।
श्वेत्द्वीपपतिः कर्णो नासिकां यज्ञरूपधृक।।
नृसिंहो नेत्र्युगम च जिव्हां दशरथात्मजः।
अध्राववताते तु नरनारायणावृषी
कपौलो पान्तु।
ते साक्षात सनाकाध्य कला हरे।
भालं ते श्वेतवाराहो नारदो भ्रुलतेsवतु।।
चिबुकं कपिल: पातु दत्तात्रेय उरोsवतु।
स्कंधो द्वावृषभ: पातु करौ मतस्य: प्रपातु ते।।
दोर्दन्द्म सततं रक्षेत पृथु: पृथुलविक्रम:।
उदरं कमठ: पातु नाभिं धन्वन्त्रिश ते।।
मोहिनी गुह्वादेशं च कटिं ते वामनोsवतु।
पृष्ठम पर्शुरामास्च्य तवोरु बादरायण:।।
बलो जानुद्वयम पातु जन्घेह बुधं प्रपातु ते।
पादौ पातु सगुल्फो च कल्किधर्मपति: प्रभु:।।
सर्वरक्षाकरम दिव्यं श्रीकृष्ण कवचम परम।
इदं भगवता दत्तं ब्रह्मणे नाभिपंकजे।।
ब्रह्माणाम शम्भवे दत्तं शम्भुदुर्वाससे ददौ।
दुर्वासा: श्री यशोमत्ये प्रादाछ्रीनन्दंमंदिरे।।
अनेन रक्षाम कृत्वास्य गोपिभि: श्रीयशोमती।
पाययित्वा स्तनं दानं विप्रेभ्य प्रददौ महत।।
मन्त्र का अर्थ-
श्रीकृष्ण तेरे सिर की रक्षा करें, भगवान् बैकुंठ कंठ की। श्वेत्दीप के स्वामी दोनों कानो की व यज्ञस्वरुप श्रीहरि नासिका की।
भगवान् नरसिंह दोनों नेत्रों की, दशरथनंदन राम जिव्हा और नर-नारायण ऋषि तेरे अधरों की रक्षा करें।
साक्षात श्रीहरी के कलावतार सनक-सनन्दन आदि चारों ऋषि तेरे दोनों कपोलों की रक्षा करें।
भगवान् श्वेत्वाराह भाल देश तथा नारद दोनों भ्रुलताओं की रक्षा करें।
भगवान् कपिल ठोढी और दत्तात्रेय तेरे वक्षस्थल को सुरक्षित रखें।
भगवान् ऋषभ दोनों कन्धों और मतस्य भगवान् तेरे दोनों हाथों की रक्षा करें।
पराक्रमी राजा पृथु तेरे बाहुदण्डों को सुरक्षित रखें। भगवान् कश्यप उदर व धन्वन्तरि तेरी नाभि की रक्षा करें।
मोहिनी रूपधारी भगवान् तेरे गुदादेश को व वामन तेरी कटि को हानि से बचाएं।
स्वयं परशुराम तेरे पृष्ठभाग व व्यासजी तेरी दोनों जंघाओं के रक्षक हों।
बलभद्र तेरे घुटनों व बुध देव तेरी पिंडलियों की रक्षा करें। भगवान् कल्कि तेरे दोनों पैरों को कुशल रखें।
कहते हैं इसका उपदेश स्वयं विष्णुजी ने भगवान् ब्रह्मा को दिया था, उनसे शम्भू ने इसका ज्ञान ले ऋषि दुर्वासा को प्रदान किया। जिनकी आज्ञा से नन्द व यशोदा माता ने पूतना के विष भरे स्तनों का पान कर रहे कान्हा की रक्षा हेतु इसका पाठ किया था।
