सत्यनिष्ठा (ईमानदारी)
एक बार एक विद्यार्थी ने अपने अध्यापक से पूछा, “मास्टर जी ईमानदारी क्या होती है?”
अध्यापक ने मुस्कराकर कहा, “जीवन की सच्ची संपदा”
विद्यार्थी ने विस्मय से कहा, “सच्ची संपदा! अध्यापक ने कहा कि,” आज मैं आपको कुछ महान लोगों के जीवन की कुछ घटनाओं को सुनाता हूँ।
कहानी ईमानदारी की!
कौटिल्य, जिनको चाणक्य के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। छोटी-सी एक कुटिया में रहते थे, इस देश के प्रधानमंत्री। एक विदेशी व्यक्ति आया और उसने कहा कि, “मुझे प्रधानमंत्री से मिलना है। वह कौन से महल में रहते हैं?”
वह महल में नहीं, वह तो नगर की सीमा पर एक कुटिया में रहते हैं। वह उसे चाणक्य से मिलने के लिए ले गया। चाणक्य उस समय राज्य का कोई काम कर रहे थे। एक लालटेन थी, दीपक जल रहा था। शाम का वक्त था। चाणक्य ने उसका स्वागत किया और उस लालटेन को बुझा दिया और नई लालटेन जलाई। विदेशी को बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ। उसने पूछा कि, “आपने यह क्या किया?” चाणक्य ने कहा, “यह लालटेन सरकारी तेल से चल रही थी। अब आप मुझसे व्यक्तिगत रूप से मिलने आए हैं, तो यह मेरा व्यक्तिगत तेल है जो जलेगा।” ईमानदारी का ऐसा स्तर!
ईमानदारी अपने देश के प्रति, अपने कर्तव्य के प्रति!
एक ऐसे व्यक्ति भी हैं, जिन्होंने अपने जीवन में कुछ सिद्धांतों का बचपन से पालन किया। गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले, गांधी जी के गुरु। जब वह बहुत छोटे थे उन्होंने क्लास में एक सवाल का जवाब लिख कर लाए दिया। वही एक बच्चा था जिसने वह सवाल सही किया था। टीचर ने कहा, “तालियाँ बजाओ।” सब ने तालियाँ बजाई। गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले रोने लगे। सब ने कहा, “क्या बात हो गई। तालियाँ बज रही है तुम्हारे लिए।” उसने कहा, “यह सवाल मैंने हल नहीं किया था, मेरे पिताजी ने किया था। इसलिए तालियाँ गलत है।”
ईमानदारी अपनी शिक्षा के प्रति, अपनी काबिलियत के प्रति!
जे.आर.डी टाटा, भारत रत्न। एक बार वह अपने चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट के साथ बैठे हुए थे। बहुत बड़ी रकम थी, जो चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट कह रहे थे कि हम बचा सकते है, अगर इसको इस ढंग से पेश करें। यह टैक्सेशन का मामला होता है। टाटा ने पूछा, “क्या यह लीगल है या कानून के अंतर्गत सही है?” चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट ने कहा, “सही है।” फिर उन्होंने पूछा कि “क्या यह नैतिक है?” चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट चुप हो गया। टाटा ने कहा, “नहीं है, हमें ऐसी हजारों करोड़ों रुपए की कोई भी इनकम नहीं चाहिए जो नैतिक ना हो।”
ईमानदारी अपनी आत्मा के प्रति!
आगे अध्यापक ने कहा, “इमानदारी सिर्फ धन से सम्बंधित नहीं है। इसका सांगोपांग अर्थ है। हम अपने शरीर के प्रति ईमानदार रहे। हम अपने मस्तिष्क के प्रति भी, अच्छे विचारों के माध्यम से, गलत विचार ना आने दे। हमें अपनी प्रकृति पर नियंत्रण करना है, वह भी ईमानदारी है। खुश रहना ईमानदारी, क्रोध ना करना भी ईमानदारी है। माँ-बाप की सेवा भी ईमानदारी है। पति-पत्नी के बीच निष्ठा का सम्बंध ईमानदारी है। बच्चों के प्रति प्रेम भी ईमानदारी है। वादे पूरे करना ईमानदारी है। देश सेवा भी ईमानदारी है। ईमानदारी है, इंसान को अपनी आत्मा के अनुसार काम करना और आत्मा के अनुसार काम करने वाला आदमी जो सही है, वही करता है।
हम अपनी माँ से या अपनी बेटी से जो ना कह सके, वह बेईमानी है। जो चीज कहने लायक नहीं है, वह करने लायक भी नहीं है। ईमानदारी के रास्ते पर चलने वाला व्यक्ति ईमानदारी का दर्शन अपने जीवन में आत्मसात करता है। यही ईमानदारी है।”
इसीलिए कहते है,
“आनेस्टी इज द बेस्ट पॉलिसी, ईमानदारी सर्वश्रेष्ठ नीति है।”
एक विचार–इसके अलावा क्या कोई और नीति है?
उस दिन कक्षा में किताबें तो नहीं खुली, पर ईमानदारी दिलो में उतरी।
“उद्देश्य की शुद्धता और इरादों की शुद्धता हमें बहुत आगे तक ले जाएगी। आंतरिक खोज के लिए ऐसी शुद्धता और ईमानदारी दूसरों में पैदा करने से पहले मुझे अपनी खोज के प्रति ईमानदार होना होगा।”

Once a student asked his teacher, “Master, what is honesty?”
The teacher smiled and said, “The true wealth of life.”
The student said in astonishment, “True wealth!” The teacher said, “Today let me narrate to you some incidents from the lives of some great people.”
Story of honesty!
Kautilya, who is also known as Chanakya. The Prime Minister of this country lived in a small cottage. A foreign man came and said, “I want to meet the Prime Minister. In which palace does he live?”
He does not live in a palace, he lives in a cottage on the outskirts of the city. He took him to meet Chanakya. Chanakya was doing some government work at that time. There was a lantern, the lamp was burning. It was evening. Chanakya welcomed him and extinguished that lantern and lit a new one. The foreigner was very surprised. He asked, “What did you do?” Chanakya said, “This lantern was running on government oil. Now that you have come to meet me personally, it is my personal oil that will burn.” Such level of honesty!
Honesty towards your country, towards your duty!
There is also a person who followed some principles in his life since childhood. Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Guru of Gandhiji. When he was very young, he wrote and brought the answer to a question in class. He was the only child who got that question correct. The teacher said, “Applause.” Everyone applauded. Gopal Krishna Gokhale started crying. Everyone said, “What happened. Applause is ringing for you.” He said, “This question was not solved by me, my father did. So the applause is wrong.”
Honesty towards your education, towards your abilities!
J.R.D Tata, Bharat Ratna. Once he was sitting with his chartered accountant. There was a huge amount of money which the chartered accountants were saying we could save if we presented it in this manner. This is a matter of taxation. Tata asked, “Is this legal or correct under the law?” The chartered accountant said, “Correct.” Then he asked “Is this ethical?” The chartered accountant became silent. Tata said, “No, we do not want any income worth thousands of crores of rupees which is not ethical.”
Honesty to your soul!
Further the teacher said, “Honesty is not just related to money. It has a holistic meaning. We should be honest towards our body. We should also not allow wrong thoughts to come to our mind through good thoughts. We have to control our nature, that is also honesty. Being happy is honesty, not getting angry is also honesty. Serving parents is also honesty. The relationship of loyalty between husband and wife is honesty. Love towards children is also honesty. Is. Honesty is keeping promises. Serving the country is also honesty. Honesty means that a person should work according to his soul and the person who works according to his soul does what is right.
What we cannot say to our mother or our daughter is dishonesty. What is not worth saying is not worth doing. A person who follows the path of honesty imbibes the philosophy of honesty in his life. This is honesty.”
That is why it is said,
“Honesty is the best policy, honesty is the best policy.”
A thought – is there any other policy besides this?
Books were not opened in the class that day, but honesty touched the hearts.
“Purity of purpose and purity of intentions will take us very far. I have to be honest about my own search before I can inculcate in others such purity and honesty for inner search.”
