पुरुषोत्तम नारायण कवचम्

पुरुषोत्तम कवचम्, जो शाण्डिल्य संहिता के भक्ति खण्ड में वर्णित है। यह कवच भगवान श्रीकृष्ण (पुरुषोत्तम नारायण) की सर्वांग रक्षा, सिद्धि, भक्ति और मोक्ष का अद्भुत साधन है।

ध्यान-
शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशम्
विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम्।
लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम्
वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरण् सर्वलौकैकनाथनम्।।

ॐ पुरुषोत्तमाय विद्महे, परमपुरुषाय धीमहि। तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात्।।

ऋषय ऊचुः-
अथ नाम्नां सहस्राख्यं वद स्तोत्रं महामुने।
यस्याभ्यसनतः सद्यः प्रीयते पुरुषोत्तमः।।१।।

अर्थ-
ऋषियों ने कहा- हे महामुनि! हमें वह सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र बताइए, जिसके पाठ से भगवान पुरुषोत्तम (श्रीकृष्ण) तत्काल प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं।

श्रीशाण्डिल्य उवाच-
पुरा कृतयुगे देवः सविता सुषुवे सुताम्।
यमुनेति च विख्यातां देवतां च शुचिष्मतीम्।।२।।

अर्थ-
शाण्डिल्य मुनि बोले- कृतयुग में भगवान सूर्यदेव ने एक दिव्य कन्या को जन्म दिया, जो “यमुना” नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुईं।

पप्रच्छ पितरं सा च कः परो वापरो यतः।
कथं प्राप्यो भवेदेष ततः प्राह पिता सुताम्।।३।।

अर्थ-
यमुना ने अपने पिता सूर्य से पूछा- हे पिता! वह पुरुषोत्तम कौन हैं, कहां निवास करते हैं, और उनकी प्राप्ति कैसे होती है? तब सूर्यदेव ने उसे उत्तर दिया।

तपसा ब्रह्मणा पूर्वं जगत्सृष्टमिति श्रुतम्।
तपसा भवती देवं स्वीयं विज्ञातुमर्हति।।४।।

अर्थ-
सूर्य बोले- हे सुत! जैसे ब्रह्माजी ने तपस्या द्वारा सृष्टि की रचना की, वैसे ही तू भी भगवान को जानने के लिए तप कर।

सा कलिन्दगिरिं प्राप्य तपश्चक्रे सुदारुणम्।
ध्यायन्ती रमणं देवं ब्राह्मकल्पमनीनयत्।।५।।

अर्थ-
यमुना देवी कलिन्द पर्वत पर जाकर कठोर तपस्या करने लगीं। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण का ध्यान करते हुए उन्होंने एक पूरा कल्प (युग) उसी में व्यतीत कर दिया।

ततः प्रसन्नो भगवान् श्रीकृष्णो भक्तवत्सलः।
प्रादुर्भूय गिरौ तत्र वेणुनादं चकार सः।।६।।

अर्थ-
तब भक्तवत्सल भगवान श्रीकृष्ण यमुना की भक्ति से प्रसन्न होकर वहाँ प्रकट हुए और मधुर वेणुनाद करने लगे।

तस्य नादस्य हर्षेण द्रवीभूता ततो हि सा।
दिव्यरूपा ततो जाता जगतां पावनी परा।।७।।

अर्थ-
उस वेणुनाद को सुनकर यमुना का हृदय प्रेम से पिघल गया, और वे दिव्य स्वरूप धारण कर समस्त जगत को पवित्र करनेवाली बनीं।

तस्यै प्रसन्नो भगवान् नवकञ्जमयीं स्रजम्।
सारूप्यं च ददौ प्राह प्रिया भव सुभक्तितः।।८।।

अर्थ-
श्रीकृष्ण ने प्रसन्न होकर यमुना को कमलमाला पहनाई, सारूप्य (स्वरूप-समानता) दी और कहा- “हे प्रिये! तू मेरी अत्यंत भक्त हो, मेरी प्रिया बन जा।”

इदं नाम्नांसहस्रं मे पठ येन विबुध्यसे।
मम लोके सरिद्रूपे दिव्यरूपे प्रविश्यताम्।।९।।

अर्थ-
भगवान बोले- “हे यमुने! यह मेरा सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र है, जो इसका पाठ करेगा, वह मेरे लोक में, तेरे समान दिव्य रूप में स्थित होगा।”

अस्मिंश्च ते द्रवे कान्ते मज्जतां भुक्तिमुक्तयः।
भविष्यन्ति वशीभूता भक्तिर्मे न च त्वां विना।।१०।।

अर्थ-
“तेरे जल में जो स्नान करेगा, उसे भुक्ति और मुक्ति दोनों प्राप्त होंगी। मेरी भक्ति तुझसे अभिन्न रूप में निवास करेगी।”

दत्वा सहस्रनामाख्यं स्तोत्रं सख्यै हरिर्ययो।
विवस्वन्तमनुज्ञाप्य सा गता हरिणा सह।।११।।

अर्थ-
भगवान ने यमुना को सहस्रनाम स्तोत्र देकर सखा भाव से विदा किया। सूर्य की अनुमति लेकर यमुना भगवान के साथ चली गईं।

इदं स्तोत्रं मया लब्धं स्वयं तुष्टाद्विवस्वतः।
पुण्यं स्वस्त्ययनं भव्यमायुष्यं हरिभक्तिदम्।।१२।।

अर्थ-
यह स्तोत्र मुझे स्वयं सूर्यदेव से प्राप्त हुआ। यह पवित्र, मंगलप्रद, आयुष्यवर्धक और हरिभक्ति देनेवाला है।

पाठादस्य प्रजायन्ते पुण्याः कामा मनोगताः।
पुत्राश्चापि प्रसूयन्ते विनीताश्चिरजीविनः।।१३।।

अर्थ-
इसका पाठ करने से पुण्य प्राप्त होता है, सभी मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण होती हैं, आज्ञाकारी और दीर्घायु पुत्र प्राप्त होते हैं।

भाग्यवन्तः सुकृतिनः पितृभक्ता हरेः प्रियाः।
कान्ता भवन्ति सत्कान्ता दान्ताश्चापि पतिव्रताः।।१४।।

अर्थ-
पाठक भाग्यवान्, पुण्यात्मा, पितृभक्त, हरिप्रिय बन जाता है। उसकी पत्नी सती, पतिव्रता और शुभलक्षणों से युक्त होती है।

चतुर्द्दश महारत्नभोक्ता भवति पाठकृत्।
महारोगैर्विमुच्येत दारुणैर्बन्धनैरपि।।१५।।

अर्थ-
जो इसका नियमित पाठ करता है, वह चौदह रत्नों का स्वामी बनता है, और सभी दारुण रोगों तथा बन्धनों से मुक्त होता है।

शत्रुभिश्च विषैः शस्त्रैः कृत्याभिश्च ग्रहैरपि।
भूतैः प्रेतैश्च रक्षोभिर्वह्निवायुमहाभयैः।।१६।।

मुच्यते वारिधौ मज्जन् त्रायते चापरान्नपि।।१७।।

अर्थ-
वह शत्रु, विष, शस्त्र, ग्रह, भूत, प्रेत, राक्षस, अग्नि और वायु के भयों से मुक्त रहता है। वह स्वयं सुरक्षित रहता है और दूसरों को भी रक्षक बनता है।

साम्राज्यलक्ष्मीमाप्नोति किमन्यत् कथयामि भोः।
दारिद्र्यान्मुच्यते सोऽथ कुबेर इव जायते।।१९।।

अर्थ-
इस स्तोत्र का जप करनेवाला व्यक्ति राज्यलक्ष्मी प्राप्त करता है, और दरिद्रता से मुक्त होकर कुबेर के समान धनवान् बन जाता है।

महादेवान् वशे कुर्याद् भूतान्यपि वशे नयेत्।
विपर्ययं च जगतां कुर्याद्बन्धं दिवौकसाम्।।२१।।

अर्थ-
वह देवता, भूत, और ब्रह्माण्ड की शक्तियों को वश में कर सकता है। यहाँ तक कि देवगण भी उसके अनुराग से बँध जाते हैं।

पूज्यते जगतीमध्ये लोकानुग्रहकृद्भवेत्।।२२।।

तस्य वाक् जायते वेत्ता भूतभव्यभवज्जुषाम्।।२३।।

अर्थ-
ऐसा साधक समस्त जगत में पूजनीय बनता है, लोकानुग्रह करता है, और उसकी वाणी त्रिकालज्ञान से संपन्न होती है।

हरिभक्तस्तु भगवल्लीलां पश्यति सर्वशः।।२४।।

दैन्यप्रीतिं समाप्नोति गुरुभक्तिं च विन्दति।।२५।।

अर्थ-
जो इसका श्रद्धा से पाठ करता है, वह श्रीहरि की दिव्य लीलाओं का अनुभव करता है, नम्रता और गुरु-भक्ति को प्राप्त करता है।

हृदयं गोपिकानाथो भालं मे जगदीश्वरः।
श्रीकृष्णो मे शिखां पातु कवचं पातु गोपतिः।।२६।।

अर्थ-
गोपिकानाथ मेरे हृदय की रक्षा करें, जगदीश्वर मेरे मस्तक की रक्षा करें, और गोपाल श्रीकृष्ण मेरा कवच बनकर रक्षा करें।

नेत्रे पातु दधद्वेत्रमस्त्रं वेणुधरो हरिः।।२७।।

अर्थ-
हाथ में वेणु धारण करनेवाले भगवान हरि मेरे नेत्रों की रक्षा करें।

कण्ठादिमध्यपर्यन्तं श्रीगोविन्दोऽपि रक्षतु।।२८।।

अर्थ-
श्रीगोविन्द मेरे कण्ठ से मध्य भाग तक रक्षा करें।

श्रीगोपीजनकान्तस्तु पायान्मध्यादिपादतः।।२९।।

अर्थ-
गोपीजनवल्लभ भगवान मेरे नाभि से लेकर चरणों तक रक्षा करें।

श्रीकृष्णः शरणं मेऽस्तु बाल्ये बालस्वरूपधृक्।।३०।।

गोविन्दः शरणं मेऽस्तु तारुण्ये तरुणीप्रियः।।३१।।

अर्थ-
बाल्यकाल में बालक रूप वाले श्रीकृष्ण मेरी रक्षा करें; और तारुण्य में गोविन्द, जो तरुणियों के प्रिय हैं, मेरा संरक्षण करें।

आपन्नं गोकुलाधीशः प्रपन्नं गिरिधारणः।।३२।।

अर्थ-
संकट में गोकुलनाथ और गिरिधर गोवर्धनधारी भगवान मेरा रक्षण करें।

अग्रतो मे जगन्नाथः पृष्ठतो बदरीपतिः।।३३।।

पार्श्वतो द्वारकानाथो रङ्गनाथस्तथा हरिः।।३४।।

अर्थ-
मेरे आगे जगन्नाथ, पीछे बदरीनाथ, दोनों पार्श्वों में द्वारकानाथ और रंगनाथ भगवान रक्षा करें।

।। इति श्रीशाण्डिल्यसंहितायां पञ्चमे भक्तिखण्डे एकोनविंशोऽध्याये श्रीपुरुषोत्तम कवचं सम्पूर्णम् ।।

यह पुरुषोत्तम कवच भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की परम कृपा का कवच है। जो इसे श्रद्धा से पढ़ता है- वह सर्वभय, रोग, दोष से मुक्त होता है। लक्ष्मी, आयुष्य, पुत्र और राज्यलाभ प्राप्त करता है। जीवन में भक्ति, नम्रता, और दिव्य दर्शन की अनुभूति होती है। अंततः उसे श्रीकृष्णलोक की प्राप्ति होती है। ।। श्री कृष्णाय वयं नमः ।।

meaning- The sages said- O great sage! Tell us that Sahasranama Stotra, by reciting which Lord Purushottam (Shri Krishna) becomes immediately happy.

Sri Shandyal said- In the past the god Savita gave birth to a daughter in the Kritayuga She is also known as the Yamuna and the goddess Shuchishmati.

meaning- Shandilya Muni said – In Kritayuga, Lord Suryadev gave birth to a divine girl, who became famous by the name “Yamuna”.

He asked his father and who was the other who was the other. How can he be attained by him and then his father said to his daughter.

meaning- Yamuna asked her father Surya- Oh father! Who is that Supreme Being, where does he reside, and how is he attained? Then Suryadev answered him.

It has been heard that the universe was created by Brahma in the past. By austerities you deserve to know your own god.

meaning- Surya said- Hey Sut! Just as Brahmaji created the universe through penance, similarly you too do penance to know God.

Having reached the mountain of Kalinda she performed severe austerities Meditating on the delight of the Lord, he brought the Brahma-kalpa.

meaning- Yamuna Devi went to Kalind mountain and started performing rigorous penance. Meditating on Lord Krishna, he spent an entire kalpa (era) in it.

Then pleased with Lord Krishna, the compassionate devotee of his devotees. He appeared on the mountain and roared there.

meaning- Then the devotee-loving Lord Krishna was pleased with the devotion of Yamuna and appeared there and began to sound the sweet flute.

That is the joy of that noise Then the divine form of the universe became the supreme purifier.

meaning- Hearing that Venunaad, Yamuna’s heart melted with love, and she assumed the divine form and became the one who purified the entire world.

The venerable Lord was pleased with her new lotus flower He gave him the same and said, “Be dear to me with devotion.

meaning- Pleased with Krishna, he wore the lotus garland, and said, “O dear, be my most devotees, become my beloved.”

Read this thousand names by which you are awakened. Enter in my world in the form of a river in a divine form.

meaning- God said – “O Yamune! This is my Sahasranama Stotra, the one who recites it will be situated in my world in a divine form like you.”

And in this liquid, my dear, those who are drowning in enjoyment and liberation. They will be subdued and devotion to me is not without you.

meaning- “Whoever bathes in your water will attain both salvation and salvation. My devotion will reside in an integral form with you.”

Giving a stotra called Sahasranama to his friend Hari went. Having permitted Vivasvanta she went with the deer.

meaning- God bid farewell to Yamuna with Sahasranama Stotra. Taking permission from Surya, Yamuna went with God.

I have obtained this hymn by myself satisfied with Vivasvata. It is pious, auspicious, grand, long-lived and bestows devotion on the Lord.

meaning- I received this stotra from Suryadev himself. It is sacred, auspicious, life-enhancing and gives devotion to others.

From the lesson the pious desires are born in the mind. sons and sons are also born, humbled and long-lived.

meaning- By reciting it one attains virtue, all wishes are fulfilled and one gets obedient and long lived sons.

They are fortunate and well-doers, devoted to their fathers, dear to Hari. They become lovely, good, lovely, and self-controlled and are faithful to their husbands.

meaning- The reader becomes fortunate, a virtuous soul, a devotee of his father and a lover of greenery. His wife is full of sati, devotion to her husband and good qualities.

The reader is fourteen great gems. It is freed from great diseases and even by terrible bondage.

meaning- One who recites it regularly becomes the master of the fourteen gems and is freed from all grievous diseases and bondages.

The enemies and the poisonous weapons and the rituals of the planets. Beings and ghosts and demons with great fears of fire and air.

He is freed from the waters of the water and saves the other.

meaning- He remains free from the fear of enemies, poison, weapons, planets, ghosts, demons, fire and air. He himself remains safe and also becomes a protector of others.

What else can I tell you, sir? He is freed from poverty and then he is born like Kubera.

meaning- The person who chants this stotra attains Rajya Lakshmi, and becomes free from poverty and becomes rich like Kubera.

He should subdue the great gods and bring the beings under his control. The opposite of the worlds should be made of the bonds of the heavenly beings.

meaning- He can control gods, ghosts, and the powers of the universe. Even the gods become bound by his love.

He is worshiped in the midst of the world and will be the grace of the worlds.

His speech is born a knower of the past, present and future.

meaning- Such a seeker becomes worshipable in the entire world, receives favor from the people, and his speech is endowed with the knowledge of Trikal.

The devotee of Hari sees the pastimes of the Lord in every way.

He attains poverty and attains devotion to the teacher.

meaning- One who recites it with devotion, experiences the divine pastimes of Sri Hari, attains humility and devotion to the Guru.

My heart is the lord of the gopikas and the lord of the universe is my spear. May Lord Krishna protect my head and protect the shield.

meaning- May Gopikanath protect my heart, Jagdishwar protect my head, and Gopal Shri Krishna protect me as my shield.

May Hari, holding a bamboo weapon, protect my eyes and hold the weapon.

meaning- May Lord Hari, who holds Venu in his hand, protect my eyes.

May even Sri Govinda protect me from the middle of the neck and others.

meaning- May Shri Govind protect me from my throat till the middle part.

Sri Gopijanakanta is the middle of the foot from the foot.

meaning- May Gopijanvallabh Lord protect me from my navel till my feet.

May Krishna take refuge in me in my childhood assuming the form of childhood.

Govinda may I take refuge in you in the youth and dear to the young.

meaning- May Lord Krishna in child form protect me during my childhood; And may Govind, who is beloved of young women, protect me in my youth.

The lord of the cowherd men who had attained it was a mountain-bearer.

meaning- May Gokulnath and Giridhar Govardhandhari God protect me in times of trouble.

In front of me, Lord of the universe, the lord of Badaris behind me.

He is the lord of Dwarka and the lord of the colors and Hari.

meaning- May Lord Jagannath protect me, Badrinath behind me, Dwarkanath and Ranganath on both sides.

।। This is the complete Śrī Puruṣottama Kavaca in the fifth Bhakti-khaṇḍa of the Śrī Śāṇḍilya Samhita.

This Purushottama Kavacha is the shield of the supreme grace of Lord Krishna. He who reads it with faith is free from all fear, disease, evil. Lakshmi, Ayushya, son and kingdom gain.
