Shri Soma Stotram
I bow to the radiant Moon divine,
Clad in robes of silver shine.
With fragrant garlands pure and bright,
He rides the chariot of snowy light.
Served by gods with reverent gaze,
Granting fearlessness and grace.
With pearl and sacred mark adorned,
To Chandra bright my prayers are borne.
Lord of Rohini, gentle and fair,
Born of Atri’s sacred prayer.
Seated upon a shining throne,
Guardian of the night alone.
O Moon, the jewel of Shiva’s head,
Whose cooling rays are softly spread.
Treasure of phases, calm and bright,
Crowned with beauty, clothed in light.
The eye of Vishnu, soft and mild,
Who comforts Earth like a tender child.
Your soothing beams bring peace and rest,
Filling the hearts of all the blessed.
Clad in white with sandal grace,
A royal glow upon your face.
Beneath the shining silver dome,
You rule the silent night as home.
O Soma, with nectar in your rays,
You nourish life in countless ways.
Grant me health and calm within,
Wash away all pain and sin.
King of Brahmins, herbs’ true lord,
Brother of Lakshmi by heaven adored.
O lamp of night, so pure and clear,
Protect your devotees ever near.
Crest of Shiva, star-king bright,
Guide us through the darkest night.
From every danger keep us free,
With your calm serenity.
Ocean of mercy, gentle and kind,
Source of peace for heart and mind.
Born of the cosmic ocean’s stream,
You fulfill every sacred dream.
O Moon, like heaven’s wishful tree,
Grant the hopes that dwell in me.
Bless us with fortune, joy and peace,
May all our sorrows slowly cease.
Who recites this hymn each day,
Finds all troubles fade away.
Moon-Lord’s grace shall always stay,
Lighting life along the way.

I bow to Chandra (the Moon God), whose body shines in white garments,
who is adorned with white garlands and fragrance,
who rides a chariot drawn by white horses and is worshipped by the gods.
Holding the mace and granting fearlessness and blessings,
decorated with the Shrivatsa mark and pearls, I offer my salutations to the Moon.

May Rohini’s Lord, the Moon, riding a chariot with ten horses,
born in the lineage of sage Atri and connected with the Yamuna region,
seated on a four-sided throne and holding a mace,
protect us from all directions.
(protect = रक्षा करना)

I bow to the Moon who grants boons,
who is the ornament of Lord Shiva,
who is the treasure of all lunar phases (Kalānidhi),
and whose beautiful form shines with bracelets and a crown.
(boon = वरदान)
4.
I bow to the Moon whose feet are worthy of worship,
who is considered the eye of Lord Vishnu (Vasudeva),
who brings joy and coolness to the earth
and spreads soothing light everywhere.
(soothing = शीतल और शांत करने वाला)
5.
I bow to the Moon who wears white clothes and garlands,
whose body is anointed with white sandal paste,
and whose head shines under a white royal umbrella.

6.
O Soma (Moon God), you nourish the whole world
with your nectar-like rays.
Please bless me with good health
and fill my life with your cooling, healing energy.

O Moon, you are the king of Brahmins
and also the brother of Goddess Lakshmi.
You are the lord of medicinal herbs.
O Rajanīkara (one who illuminates the night), protect me.

You are the jewel on Lord Shiva’s head
and the eye of Lord Vishnu.
You are the ruler of the stars.
Please save us from great dangers.

9.
O embodiment of auspiciousness and compassion,
O ocean of mercy,
O lord of the lunar phases born from the cosmic ocean,
please shower your grace upon us.

10.
O Moon, who arose from the Ocean of Milk,
who appeared along with the divine wish-fulfilling gem,
like a celestial Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree),
please grant the desires of devotees.
(desires = इच्छाएँ)
11.
Clothed in white garments and ornaments,
holding a mace, shining with pure brightness,
the two-armed crowned Moon God
may grant me prosperity and well-being.
(prosperity = समृद्धि)

Whoever recites this Nishākara Stotram (Moon hymn) daily
will be freed from troubles and obstacles.
