[भज] निताई-गौर राधेश्याम [जप] हरेकृष्ण हरेराम
हाहाकार
हा नाथ रमण प्रेष्ठ क्वासि क्वासि महाभुज।
दास्यास्ते कृपणाया मे सखे दर्शय सन्निधिम्।।
निद्रा में पड़ी हुई विष्णुप्रिया जी ने करवट बदलीं। सहसा वे चौक पड़ीं और जल्दी से उठकर बैठ गयीं। मानो उनके ऊपर चौडे़ मैदान में बिजली गिर पड़ी हो, अथवा सोते समय किसी ने उनका सर्वस्व हरण कर लिया हो। वे भूली-सी, पगली-सी, बेसुधि-सी, आँखों को मलती हुई चारों ओर देखने लगीं। उन्हें जागते हुए भी स्वप्नका-सा अनुभव होने लगा। वे अपने हाथों से प्रभु की शय्या को टटोलने लगीं, किंतु अब वहाँ था ही क्या! शुक तो पिंजड़ा परित्याग करके वनवासी बन गया। अपने प्राणनाथ का पंलग पर न पाकर विष्णुप्रिया जी ने जोरों के साथ चीत्कार मारी और ‘हा नाथ! हा प्राणप्यारे! मुझ दु:खिनी को इस प्रकार धोखा देकर चले गये।’ यह कहते-कहते जोरों से नीचे गिर पड़ीं और ऊपर से गिरते ही बेसूधि हो गयीं। उनके क्रन्दन की ध्वनि शचीमाता के कानों में पड़ी। उनकी उस करुणक्रन्दन से बेहोशी दूर हुई। वहीं पड़े-पड़े उन्होंने कहा- ‘बेटी! बेटी! क्या मैं सचमूच लुट गयी? क्या मेरा इकलौता बेटा मुझे धोखा देकर चला गया? क्या वह मेरी आँखों का तारा निकलकर मुझ विधवा को इस वृद्धावस्था में अन्धी बना गया? मेरी आँखों के दो तारे थे। एक के निकल जाने पर सोचती थी, एक आँख से ही काम चला लूंगी। आज तो दूसरा भी निकल गया। अब मुझ अन्धी को संसार सूना-ही-सूना दिखायी पड़ेगा। अब मुझ अन्धी की लाठी कौन पकडे़गा? बेटी! विष्णुप्रिया! बोलती क्यों नहीं? क्या निमाई सचमुच चला गया?’ विष्णुप्रिया बेहोश थीं, उनके मुख में से आवाज ही नहीं निकलती थी। वे सास की बातों को न सूनती हुई जोरों से रुदन करने लगीं। दु:खिनी माता उठी और लड़खड़ाती हुई प्रभु के शयन-भवन में पहुँची। वहाँ उसने प्रभु के पलंग को सूना देखा। विष्णुप्रिया नीचे पड़ी हुई रुदन कर रही थीं। माता की अधीरता का ठिकाना नहीं रहा। वे जोरों से रुदन करने लगीं- ‘बेटा निमाई! तू कहाँ चला गया? अरे, अपनी इस बूढ़ी माता को इस तरह धोखा मत दे। बेटा! तू कहाँ छिप गया है, मुझे अपनी सूरत तो दिखा जा। बेटा! तू रोज प्रात:काल मुझे उठकर प्रणाम किया करता था। आज मैं कितनी देर से खड़ी हूँ, उठकर प्रणाम क्यों नहीं करता!’ इतना कहकर माता दीपक को उठाकर घर के चारों ओर देखने लगी। मानो मेरा निमाई यहीं कहीं छिपा बैठा होगा। माता पलंग के नीचे देख रही थीं। बिछौना को बार-बार टटोलतीं, मानो निमाई इसी में छिप गया।
वृद्धा माता के दु:ख के कारण काँपते हुए हाँथों से दीपक नीचे गिर पड़ा और वे भी विष्णुप्रिया के पास ही बेहोश होकर गिर पड़ीं और फिर उठकर चलने को तैयार हुईं और कहती जाती थीं- ‘मैं तो वहीं जाऊंगी जहाँ मेरा निमाई होगा। मैं तो अपने निमाई को ढुंढ़ूगी, वह यदि मिल गया तो उसके साथ रहूंगी, नहीं तो गंगा जी में कूदकर प्राण दे दूंगी।’ यह कहकर वे दरवाजे की ओर जाने लगीं। विष्णुप्रिया जी भी अब होश में आ गयीं और वे भी माता के वस्त्र को पकड़कर जिस प्रकार गौ के पीछे उसकी बछिया चलती है, उसी प्रकार चलने लगीं। वृद्धा माता द्वार पर भी नहीं पहुँचने पायीं कि बीच में ही मूर्च्छित होकर गिर पड़ीं। इतने में ही कुछ भक्त उषा-स्नान करके प्रभु के दशनों के लिये आ गये। द्वार पर माता को बेहोश पड़े देखकर भक्त समझ गये कि महाप्रभु आज जरूर चले गये। इतने में ही नित्यानन्द, गदाधर, मुकुन्द, चन्द्रशेखर आचार्य तथा श्रीवास आदि सभी भक्त वहाँ आ गये। माता को और विष्णुप्रिया को इस प्रकार विलाप करते देखकर भक्त उन्हें भाँति-भाँति से समझा-समझाकर आश्वासन देने लगे।
श्रीवास ने माता से कहा- ‘माता! तुम सोच मत करो। तुम्हारा निमाई तुमसे जरूर मिलेगा। तुम्हारा पुत्र इतना कठोर नहीं है।’ माता संज्ञा शून्य-सी पड़ी हुई थी। नित्यानन्द जी ने माता के अपने हाथ से उठाया। उनके सम्पूर्ण शरीर में लगी हुई धूलि को अपने वस्त्र से पोंछा और उसे धैर्य दिलाते हुए वे कहने लगे- ‘माता! तुम इतना शोक मत करो। हमारा हृदय फटा जाता है। हम तुम्हारे दूसरे पुत्र हैं। हम तुमसे शपथपूर्वक कहते हैं, तुम्हारा निमाई जहाँ भी कहीं होगा, वहीं से लाकर हम उसे तुमसे मिला देंगे। हम अभी जाते हैं।’ नित्यानन्द जी की बात सुनकर माता ने कुछ धैर्य धारण किया। उन्होंने रोते-रोते कहा- ‘बेटा! मैं निमाई बिना जीवित न रह सकूंगी। तुम कहीं से भी उसे ढ़ूंढ़कर ले आ। नहीं तो मैं विष खाकर या गंगा जी में कूदकर अपने प्राणों को परित्याग कर दूंगी।’
नित्यानन्द जी ने कहा- ‘माँ! इस प्रकार के तुम्हारे रुदन को देखकर हमारी छाती फटती है। तुम धैर्य धरो। हम अभी जाते हैं।’ यह कहकर नित्यानन्द जी ने श्रीवास पण्डित को तो माता तथा विष्णुप्रिया जी की देख-रेख के लिये वहीं छोड़ा। वे जानते थे कि प्रभु कटवा (कण्टक नगर) में स्वामी केशव भारती से संन्यास लेने की बात कर रहे थे, अत: नित्यानन्द जी अपने साथ वक्रेश्वर, गदाधर, मुकुन्द और चन्द्रशेखर आचार्य को लेकर गंगा पर करके कटवाकी ही ओर चल पड़े।

Alas, O Lord Raman, dearest, where are you, O mighty-armed one? O friend show me the presence of your wretched maidservant
Vishnupriya ji who was lying in sleep changed her side. Suddenly she was startled and quickly got up and sat down. As if lightning had struck him in a wide field, or someone had snatched everything from him while he was sleeping. She started looking around like a forgetful, crazy, unconscious, rubbing her eyes. He started feeling like a dream even while awake. She started groping the Lord’s bed with her hands, but what was there now! Shuk then abandoned the cage and became a forest dweller. Not finding her Prannath on the bed, Vishnupriya ji shouted loudly and ‘Ha Nath! Oh dear! They left by deceiving me in this way.’ The sound of his cry fell in the ears of Sachimata. His fainting went away from that Karunakrandan. While lying there, he said – ‘Daughter! Daughter Am I really robbed? Has my only son left after betraying me? Has he become the apple of my eye and made me a widow blind in this old age? I had two stars in my eyes. When one went out, I used to think, I will work with only one eye. Today the second one also left. Now the world will appear deserted to me blind. Now who will hold the stick of my blind? Daughter Vishnupriya! Why don’t you speak? Has Nimai really gone?’ Vishnupriya was unconscious, no sound came out of her mouth. She started crying loudly without listening to her mother-in-law’s words. The sorrowful mother got up and staggered to the Lord’s bedchamber. There he saw the Lord’s bed empty. Vishnupriya was crying lying down. Mother’s impatience knew no bounds. She started crying loudly – ‘ Son Nimai! where did you go Hey, don’t cheat your old mother like this. Son! Where are you hiding, at least show me your face. Son! You used to greet me every morning after getting up. Today I have been standing for so long, why don’t you get up and bow down!’ Having said this, the mother picked up the lamp and started looking around the house. As if my Nimai must be hiding somewhere here. Mother was looking under the bed. She groped the bed again and again, as if Nimai was hiding in it.
Due to the sorrow of the old mother, the lamp fell down from her trembling hands and she also fell unconscious near Vishnupriya and then got up and got ready to walk and used to say- ‘I will go where my Nimai will be. I will find my Nimai, if I find her, I will stay with her, otherwise I will die by jumping into Ganga ji.’ Saying this she started going towards the door. Vishnupriya ji also came to her senses now and she also started walking by holding the clothes of the mother, the way her calf walks behind a cow. The old mother could not even reach the door when she fainted in the middle and fell down. In the meantime, some devotees came for the darshan of the Lord after taking a bath in the morning. Seeing the mother lying unconscious at the door, the devotees understood that Mahaprabhu had definitely left today. Meanwhile, all the devotees like Nityananda, Gadadhar, Mukunda, Chandrashekhar Acharya and Shrivas etc. came there. Seeing Mata and Vishnupriya lamenting in this way, the devotees started reassuring them by explaining in various ways.
Shrivas said to the mother – ‘Mother! You don’t think You will definitely get your Nimai. Your son is not that tough.’ Mother’s noun was lying blank. Nityanand ji picked up from mother’s own hand. Wiped the dust on her whole body with his cloth and giving her patience, he started saying – ‘Mother! Don’t be so sad Our heart breaks. We are your second sons. We swear to you, wherever your Nimai is, we will bring it from there and join it with you. We will go now. After listening to Nityanand ji, the mother took some patience. He said while crying – ‘ Son! I will not be able to survive without Nimai. You find it from anywhere and bring it. Otherwise, I will give up my life by consuming poison or jumping into Ganga ji.’
Nityanand ji said – ‘ Mother! Seeing your crying like this, our chest bursts. You have patience We will go now.’ Saying this, Nityanand ji left Srivas Pandit there to look after mother and Vishnupriya ji. He knew that Prabhu was talking to Swami Keshav Bharti in Katwa (Kantak city) about taking sannyas, so Nityanand ji took Vakreshwar, Gadadhar, Mukund and Chandrashekhar Acharya along with him on the Ganges and headed towards Katwa.
