कबीर जी हाथ जोड़कर नम्रता से बोले: गुरूदेव ! यह सही है कि आपने मुझे चेलों में बिठकार दीक्षा नहीं दी और ना ही दे सकते थे, क्योंकि इसकी आज्ञा ब्राहम्ण और साधू समाज कभी भी नहीं देता। फिर भी मैं आपका चेला बन गया। राम जी ने सँजोग लिखा था।
स्वामी रामानँद जी: वो कैसे ?
कबीर जी: मैंने नीच जाति में जन्म लिया। जाति नीच है या उत्तम उसका पूरा पता जाति का रचनहार परमात्मा जाने, पर मुझे राम भजन करने की लग्न जन्म से ही है। मैं राम नाम का सिमरन करता था परन्तु मुझे बताया गया था कि गुरू के बिना गती नहीं हो सकती। गुरू धारण करना जरूरी है पर काशी नगरी मैं मुझे कोई भी अपना चेला बनाने को तैयार नहीं हुआ था। मैंने आखिर में गँगा की सीढ़ियों लेट गया और आपके चरणों की धूल प्राप्त की। आपने कहा– उठो राम कहो ! मैं राम कहने लग गया। बस यही है मेरे गुरू धारण करने की कथा।
ब्रहमज्ञानी, दिव्यदृष्टिमान स्वामी रामानँद जी, ब्रहम विद्या के बल पर सब कुछ जान गए। उन्होंने कबीर जी की आँखो में तीन लोक देखे। परमात्मा की माया देखी। वह विस्माद में गुम हो गए। आत्मिक जीवन के जिस पड़ाव पर कबीर जी पहुँचे थे, वहाँ पर कोई तिलकधारी पण्डित नहीं पहुँच सकता। पाखण्डी साधू और ब्राहम्ण, जात अभिमान के कारण नरक जीवन भोगने के भागी थे। ये पण्डित ईर्ष्या, निंदा और बड़े-छोटे, नीच-ऊँच आदि के खेल में उलझे रहते थे। राम सिमरन का ज्ञान उनको जरूर था पर वह व्यवहारिक तौर पर नहीं था और उसे अमल में नहीं लाते थे।
स्वामी रामानँद जी मस्त होकर कहने लगे: कबीर मेरा बेटा है ! मेरा चेला है ! इसमें और राम में कोई भेद नहीं। मैं खुश हूँ ऐसे चेले को पाकर। बस मेरे जीवन की सारी मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण हो गईं। स्वामी रामानंद जी की बात सुनकर सभी पण्डित, स्वर्ण जाति के, साधू और चौधरी छटपटाने लगे, पर कर कुछ नहीं सके, क्योंकि वह सब स्वामी रामानँद जी की आत्मिक शक्ति को जानते थे।
स्वामी रामानंद जी ने कबीर जी से कहा: ओ राम के कबीरे ! जाओ राम कहो ! तेरा राम राखा।
कबीर जी खुश हो गये। वो आलोकिक आनँद से कुदने लगे। उन्होंने तुरन्त भागकर स्वामी जी के चरणों में अपना माथा टेका। सभी लोग हैरान थे। कबीर जी उठे और राम भजन गाते हुये आश्रम से बाहर की तरफ चले गये। उनके पीछे-पीछे उनकी बिरादरी के लोग और श्रद्धालू भी चल पड़े।
Kabir ji folded his hands and said humbly: Gurudev! It is true that you did not, nor could you, initiate me by sitting among the disciples, because the Brahmin and Sadhu community never allows this. Still I became your disciple. Ram ji had written Sanjog.
Swami Ramanand Ji: How is that?
Kabir ji: I was born in a low caste. God, the creator of the caste, knows the complete truth about whether the caste is low or good, but I have been inclined to worship Ram since birth. I used to chant the name of Ram but I was told that Gati cannot happen without a Guru. It is necessary to have a Guru but no one in Kashi city was ready to make me his disciple. I finally lay down on the steps of Ganga and received the dust of your feet. You said- Get up and say Ram! I started saying Ram. This is the only story of my Guru’s adoption.
Brahmagyani, divine visionary Swami Ramanand ji came to know everything on the basis of Brahma Vidya. He saw three worlds in Kabir ji’s eyes. Saw the illusion of God. He was lost in trance. No Tilakdhari Pandit can reach the stage of spiritual life at which Kabir ji had reached. The renegade sages and Brahmins were destined to suffer a life in hell due to caste pride. These pundits used to get entangled in the game of jealousy, condemnation and big-small, low-high etc. He definitely had the knowledge of Ram Simran but it was not practical and he did not put it into practice.
Swami Ramanand ji became happy and said: Kabir is my son! He is my disciple! There is no difference between this and Ram. I am happy to have such a disciple. All the wishes of my life were fulfilled. After listening to Swami Ramanand Ji, all the Pandits, Golden Caste, Sadhus and Chaudhary started struggling, but could not do anything, because they all knew the spiritual power of Swami Ramanand Ji.
Swami Ramanand ji said to Kabir ji: O son of Ram! Go say Ram! Your Ram Rakha.
Kabir ji became happy. He started jumping with divine joy. He immediately ran and bowed his head at the feet of Swamiji. Everyone was surprised. Kabir got up and went out of the ashram singing Ram Bhajan. People of his community and devotees also followed him.
