रास को समझने के लिए पहली जरूरत तो यह समझना है कि सारा जीवन ही रास है। जैसा मैंने कहा, सारा जीवन विरोधी शक्तियों का सम्मिलन है। और जीवन का सारा सुख विरोधी के मिलन में छिपा है। जीवन का सारा आनंद और रहस्य विरोधी के मिलन में छिपा है। तो पहले तो रास का जो “मेटाफिजिकल’, जो जागतिक अर्थ है, वह समझ लेना उचित है; फिर कृष्ण के जीवन में उसकी अनुछाया है, वह समझनी चाहिए।
चारों तरफ आंखें उठाएं तो रास के अतिरिक्त और क्या हो रहा है? आकाश में दौड़ते हुए बादल हों, सागर की तरफ दौड़ती हुई सरिताएं हों, बीज फूलों की यात्रा कर रहे हों, या भंवरे गीत गाते हों, या पक्षी चहचहाते हों, या मनुष्य प्रेम करता हो,या ऋण और धन विद्युत आपस में आकर्षित होती हों, या स्त्री और पुरुष की निरंतर लीला और प्रेम की कथा चलती हो, इस पूरे फैले हुए विराट को अगर हम देखें तो रास के अतिरिक्त और कुछ भी नहीं हो रहा है।
रास बहुत “कॉस्मिक’ अर्थ रखता है। इसके बड़े विराट जागतिक अर्थ हैं। पहला तो यही कि इस जगत के विनियोग में,इसके निर्माण में, इसके सृजन में जो मूल आधार है, वह विरोधी शक्तियों के मिलन का आधार है। एक मकान हम बनाते हैं,एक द्वार हम बनाते हैं, तो द्वार में उल्टी ईंटें लगाकर “आर्च’ बन जाता है। एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ ईंटें लगा देते हैं। एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ लगी ईंटें पूरे भवन को सम्हाल लेती हैं। हम चाहें तो एक-सी ईंटें लगा सकते हैं। तब द्वार नहीं बनेगा, और भवन तो उठेगा नहीं। शक्ति जब दो हिस्सों में विभाजित हो जाती है, तो खेल शुरू हो जाता है। शक्ति का दो हिस्सों में विभाजित हो जाना ही जीवन की समस्त पर्तों पर, समस्त पहलुओं पर खेल की शुरुआत है। शक्ति एक हो जाती है, खेल बंद हो जाता है। शक्ति एक हो जाती है तो प्रलय हो जाती है। शक्ति दो में बंट जाती है तो सृजन हो जाता है।
रास का जो अर्थ है, वह सृष्टि की जो धारा है, उस धारा का ही गहरे-से-गहरा सूचक है। जीवन दो विरोधियों के बीच खेल है। ये विरोधी लड़ भी सकते हैं, तब युद्ध हो जाता है। ये दो विरोधी मिल भी सकते हैं, तब प्रेम हो जाता है। लेकिन लड़ना हो कि मिलना हो, दो की अनिवार्यता है। सृजन दो के बिना मुश्किल है। कृष्ण के रास का क्या अर्थ होगा इस संदर्भ में?
इतना ही नहीं है काफी कि हम कृष्ण को गोपियों के साथ नाचते हुए देखते हैं। यह हमारी बहुत स्थूल आंखें जो देख सकती हैं, उतना ही दिखाई पड़ रहा है। लेकिन कृष्ण का गोपियों के साथ नाचना साधारण नृत्य नहीं है। कृष्ण का गोपियों के साथ नाचना उस विराट रास का छोटा-सा नाटक है, उस विराट का एक आणविक प्रतिबिंब है। वह जो समस्त में चल रहा है नृत्य, उसकी एक बहुत छोटी-सी झलक है। इस झलक के कारण ही यह संभव हो पाया कि उस रास का कोई कामुक अर्थ नहीं रह गया। उस रास का कोई “सेक्सुअल मीनिंग’ नहीं है। ऐसा नहीं है कि “सेक्सुअल मीनिंग’ के लिए, कामुक अर्थ के लिए कोई निषेध है। लेकिन बहुत पीछे छूट गई वह बात। कृष्ण कृष्ण की तरह वहां नहीं नाचते, कृष्ण वहां पुरुष तत्व की तरह ही नाचते हैं। गोपिकाएं स्त्रियों की तरह वहां नहीं नाचती हैं, गहरे में वे प्रकृति ही हो जाती हैं। प्रकृति और पुरुष का नृत्य है वह।
विराट जागतिक रासलीला के प्रतीक कृष्ण

Ras has a very “cosmic” meaning. It has great cosmic meanings. Firstly, the basic basis in the appropriation of this world, in its creation, in its creation, is the basis for the union of opposing forces. One house we We build a door, then an “arch” is formed by placing opposite bricks in the door. Put bricks against each other. Bricks stacked against each other support the entire building. If we want, we can put same bricks. Then the door will not be built, and the building will not rise. When the power is split into two halves, the game begins. The splitting of power into two parts is the beginning of the game on all the layers of life, on all aspects. The power becomes one, the game is over. When the power becomes one, there is a catastrophe. When the energy is divided in two, then creation takes place.
The meaning of Raas, which is the stream of creation, is the deepest indicator of that stream itself. Life is a game between two opposites. Even these opponents can fight, then a war ensues. Even these two opposites can meet, then love happens. But to fight or to meet, two are essential. Creation is difficult without two. What would be the meaning of Krishna’s rasa in this context?
Not only this, it is enough that we see Krishna dancing with the gopis. It is visible only as much as our very gross eyes can see. But Krishna dancing with the gopis is not an ordinary dance. Krishna’s dance with the gopis is a small play of that vast Rasa, an atomic reflection of that vast. That dance that is going on in the whole is just a very small glimpse of it. It was because of this glimpse that it became possible that that Rasa no longer had any sensual meaning. There is no “sexual meaning” of that rasa. Not that for “sexual meaning”, there is a negation for the sensual meaning. But that thing was left far behind. Krishna does not dance there like Krishna, Krishna dances there like the Purusha Tattva. Gopikas don’t dance there like women, they become nature in the deep. It is the dance of nature and man.
