एक गांव के पुराने शिव मंदिर में एक वृद्ध महिला प्रतिदिन झाड़ू लगाती और महादेव की सेवा करती थी। गांव के लोग उसका उपहास करते हुए कहते, “माई, तू इतनी बूढ़ी हो गई, फिर भी इस जर्जर मंदिर की सेवा करती है? महादेव तो कैलाश पर रहते हैं, वे यहाँ कहाँ आएंगे?”
महिला मुस्कुराकर कहती, “बेटा, वे कहीं आएं या न आएं, पर मेरी श्रद्धा उन्हें यहाँ खींच ही लाएगी।”
एक रात नगर में भीषण तूफान आया। मंदिर की छत गिरने ही वाली थी। महिला मंदिर के भीतर शिवलिंग को अपनी बाहों में भरकर बैठ गई और बोली, “प्रभु, यदि आप सुरक्षित नहीं, तो मैं जीवित रहकर क्या करूंगी?” तभी एक चमत्कार हुआ। मंदिर की छत हवा में ही रुक गई और एक दिव्य प्रकाश पुंज से साक्षात शिव प्रकट हुए।
महादेव ने उसे गले लगाया और कहा, “पुत्री, लोग मुझे पत्थरों में खोजते हैं, पर मैं तो तुम्हारी जैसी निस्वार्थ सेवा और प्रेम में बसता हूँ।” अगली सुबह गांव वालों ने देखा कि मंदिर पहले से भी अधिक भव्य हो गया था। सीख: ईश्वर को वैभव नहीं, केवल सच्चा भाव और अटूट विश्वास चाहिए। कल महाशिवरात्रि है, महादेव आपके द्वार भी अवश्य आएंगे।

An old woman used to sweep the old Shiva temple of a village every day and serve Mahadev. The village people ridiculed her and said, “Mother, you have become so old, yet you serve this dilapidated temple? Mahadev lives on Kailash, where would he come here?”
The woman would smile and say, “Son, whether they come somewhere or not, my faith will definitely bring them here.”
One night a fierce storm came in the city. The roof of the temple was about to collapse. The woman sat inside the temple holding the Shivalinga in her arms and said, “Lord, if you are not safe, what will I do while I am alive?” Then a miracle happened. The roof of the temple stopped in the air and Shiva in person appeared from a divine beam of light.
Mahadev hugged her and said, “Daughter, people search for me in stones, but I reside in selfless service and love like you.” The next morning the villagers saw that the temple had become even more grand than before.
● Lesson: God does not want glory, only true feelings and unwavering faith. Tomorrow is Mahashivratri, Mahadev will definitely come to your door too.
