A Merchant Has Arrived

A Merchant Has Arrived
I heard a merchant has arrived, dear friend,
Selling a ruby bright and rare.
From door to door he calls aloud,
Awakening hearts everywhere.
He himself glows like crimson light,
Like sacred color in the air.
Whoever longs for that priceless gem,
May come and claim it then and there.
A thought arose within my heart,
“I too shall buy that ruby fair.”
So I went forth and humbly said,
“Please open the cloth and let me stare.”
He gently smiled and softly spoke,
“This treasure is beyond compare.
Its price is great, you cannot pay,
Why ask of things so rich and rare?”
“You know not yet the worth of it,
Though many years have passed in care.”
Still door to door he calls aloud,
Awakening souls everywhere.
“Offer your head in loving faith,
Only then this gem you may share.”
Hearing the secret of this trade,
My heart rejoiced beyond repair.
If giving one’s head brings such wealth,
Then cheap indeed this bargain fair.
