सच्चा साधु

एक दिन भगवान बुद्ध का पूर्ण नामक एक शिष्य उनके समीप आया और उसने तथागत से धर्मोपदेश प्राप्त करके ‘सुनापरंत’ प्रान्त में धर्म-प्रचार के लिए जाने की आज्ञा माँगी। तथागत ने कहा–‘उस प्रान्त के लोग तो अत्यन्त कठोर तथा बहुत क्रूर है। वे तुम्हे गाली देंगे, तुम्हारी निन्दा करेंगे, तो तुम्हे कैसा लगेगा?’
पूर्ण–‘भगवन ! मैं समझूँगा कि वे बहुत भले लोग हैं, क्योंकि वे मुझे थप्पड़-घुसे नही मारते।’
बुद्ध–‘यदि वे तुम्हे थप्पड़-घुसे मारने लगे तो?’
पूर्ण–मुझे पत्थर या डंडों से नही पीटते, इससे मैं उन्हें सत्पुरुष मानूँगा’
बुद्ध–‘वे पत्थर डंडों से पीट सकते हैं।’
पूर्ण–वे शस्त्र-प्रहार नही करते, इससे वे दयालु है–ऐसा मानूँगा।’
बुद्ध–‘यदि वे शस्त्र-प्रहार ही करे?’
पूर्ण–‘मुझे वे मार नही डालते, इस में मुझे उनकी कॄपा दीखेगी।’
बुद्ध–ऐसा नहीं कहा जा सकता कि वे तुम्हारा वध नही करेंगे?
पूर्ण–‘भगवन! यह संसार दुःखरूप है। यह शरीर रोगों का घर है। आत्मघात पाप है, इसलिए जीवन धारण करना पड़ता है। यदि’ सुनापरंत (सीमा प्रान्त) के लोग मुझे मार डाले, तो मुझ पर वे उपकार ही करेंगे। वे लोग बहुत अच्छे सिद्ध होंगे।’
भगवान बुद्ध प्रसन्न होकर बोले–‘पूर्ण ! जो किसी दशा में किसी को भी दोषी नही देखता, वही सच्चा साधु है। तुम अब चाहे जहाँ जा सकते हो, धर्म सर्वत्र तुम्हारी रक्षा करेगा।’

, One day a disciple of Lord Buddha named Purna came near him and after receiving a sermon from Tathagata, he asked permission to go to the province of ‘Sunaparant’ for preaching. Tathagata said – ‘The people of that province are very harsh and very cruel. They will abuse you, criticize you, so how will you feel?’ Full – ‘God! I think they are very nice people because they don’t slap me.’ Buddha – ‘If they start slapping you?’ Poorna – do not beat me with stones or sticks, by this I will consider him as a true man. Buddha– ‘They can beat stones with sticks’. Poorna–they don’t strike weapons, because of this they are merciful–I would think so.’ Buddha – ‘If they only attack weapons?’ Full– ‘They do not kill me, in this I will see their grace.’ Buddha: It cannot be said that they will not kill you? Full– ‘God! This world is sad. This body is the home of diseases. Suicide is a sin, so life has to hold. If the people of Sunaparant (Border Province) kill me, they will do me a favor. Those people will prove to be very good. Lord Buddha was pleased and said – ‘Complete! One who does not see anyone guilty in any condition, he is a true sage. Wherever you may go now, Dharma will protect you everywhere.’
