भगवान गणेश के जन्म दिन के उत्सव को गणेश चतुर्थी के रूप में जाना जाता है। गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन, भगवान गणेश को बुद्धि, समृद्धि और सौभाग्य के देवता के रूप में पूजा जाता है। यह मान्यता है कि भाद्रपद माह में शुक्ल पक्ष के दौरान भगवान गणेश का जन्म हुआ था। अंग्रेजी कैलेण्डर के अनुसार गणेश चतुर्थी का दिन अगस्त अथवा सितम्बर के महीने में आता है।
गणेशोत्सव अर्थात गणेश चतुर्थी का उत्सव, 10 दिन के बाद, अनन्त चतुर्दशी के दिन समाप्त होता है और यह दिन गणेश विसर्जन के नाम से जाना जाता है। अनन्त चतुर्दशी के दिन श्रद्धालु-जन बड़े ही धूम-धाम के साथ सड़क पर जुलूस निकालते हुए भगवान गणेश की प्रतिमा का सरोवर, झील, नदी इत्यादि में विसर्जन करते हैं।
गणपति स्थापना और गणपति पूजा मुहूर्त
ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान गणेश का जन्म मध्याह्न काल के दौरान हुआ था इसीलिए मध्याह्न के समय को गणेश पूजा के लिये ज्यादा उपयुक्त माना जाता है। हिन्दु दिन के विभाजन के अनुसार मध्याह्न काल, अंग्रेजी समय के अनुसार दोपहर के तुल्य होता है।
मध्याह्न मुहूर्त में, भक्त-लोग पूरे विधि-विधान से गणेश पूजा करते हैं जिसे षोडशोपचार गणपति पूजा के नाम से जाना जाता है।
गणेश चतुर्थी पर निषिद्ध चन्द्र-दर्शन
गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन चन्द्र-दर्शन वर्ज्य होता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि इस दिन चन्द्र के दर्शन करने से मिथ्या दोष अथवा मिथ्या कलंक लगता है जिसकी वजह से दर्शनार्थी को चोरी का झूठा आरोप सहना पड़ता है।
पौराणिक गाथाओं के अनुसार, भगवान कृष्ण पर स्यमन्तक नाम की कीमती मणि चोरी करने का झूठा आरोप लगा था। झूठे आरोप में लिप्त भगवान कृष्ण की स्थिति देख के, नारद ऋषि ने उन्हें बताया कि भगवान कृष्ण ने भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी के दिन चन्द्रमा को देखा था जिसकी वजह से उन्हें मिथ्या दोष का श्राप लगा है।
नारद ऋषि ने भगवान कृष्ण को आगे बतलाते हुए कहा कि भगवान गणेश ने चन्द्र देव को श्राप दिया था कि जो व्यक्ति भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी के दौरान चन्द्र के दर्शन करेगा वह मिथ्या दोष से अभिशापित हो जायेगा और समाज में चोरी के झूठे आरोप से कलंकित हो जायेगा। नारद ऋषि के परामर्श पर भगवान कृष्ण ने मिथ्या दोष से मुक्ति के लिये गणेश चतुर्थी के व्रत को किया और मिथ्या दोष से मुक्त हो गये।
मिथ्या दोष निवारण मन्त्र
चतुर्थी तिथि के प्रारम्भ और अन्त समय के आधार पर चन्द्र-दर्शन लगातार दो दिनों के लिये वर्जित हो सकता है। धर्मसिन्धु के नियमों के अनुसार सम्पूर्ण चतुर्थी तिथि के दौरान चन्द्र दर्शन निषेध होता है और इसी नियम के अनुसार, चतुर्थी तिथि के चन्द्रास्त के पूर्व समाप्त होने के बाद भी, चतुर्थी तिथि में उदय हुए चन्द्रमा के दर्शन चन्द्रास्त तक वर्ज्य होते हैं।
अगर भूल से गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन चन्द्रमा के दर्शन हो जायें तो मिथ्या दोष से बचाव के लिये निम्नलिखित मन्त्र का जाप करना चाहिये –
सिंहः प्रसेनमवधीत्सिंहो जाम्बवता हतः।
सुकुमारक मारोदीस्तव ह्येष स्यमन्तकः॥
गणेश चतुर्थी को विनायक चतुर्थी और गणेश चौथ के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।

The celebration of the birthday of Lord Ganesha is known as Ganesh Chaturthi. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born during the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. According to the English calendar, the day of Ganesh Chaturthi falls in the month of August or September.
Ganeshotsav i.e. celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi ends after 10 days, on Anant Chaturdashi and this day is known as Ganesh Visarjan. On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, devotees take out a procession on the road with great pomp and immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha in the lake, river, etc.
Ganpati Establishment and Ganpati Puja Muhurta It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born during the Madhyahna period, hence the time of ‘Madhyahan’ is considered more suitable for Ganesh worship. According to the division of the Hindu day, Madhyahna Kaal is equivalent to noon according to the English time.
In the mid-day Muhurta, devotees perform Ganesh Puja with full rituals which is known as Shodashopachar Ganapati Puja.
Forbidden moon sighting on Ganesh Chaturthi Moon sighting is prohibited on Ganesh Chaturthi. It is believed that seeing the moon on this day leads to false defects or false stigma, due to which the visitor has to bear the false allegation of theft.
According to mythology, Lord Krishna was falsely accused of stealing a precious gem named Syamantaka. Seeing the condition of Lord Krishna indulging in false accusations, Narada Rishi told him that Lord Krishna had seen the moon on the day of Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi due to which he was cursed with false defects.
Narada sage further told Lord Krishna that Lord Ganesha had cursed the moon god that the person who sees the moon during Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi will be cursed by false defects and will be tarnished by false accusations of theft in the society. . On the advice of Narada Rishi, Lord Krishna observed Ganesh Chaturthi fast to get rid of the false defects and became free from the false defects.
false fault prevention mantra Depending on the start and end time of Chaturthi Tithi, moon sighting may be prohibited for two consecutive days. According to the rules of Dharmasindhu, moon sighting is prohibited during the entire Chaturthi Tithi and according to this rule, even after the Chaturthi Tithi ends before the moonset, the sighting of the Moon rising on the Chaturthi Tithi is prohibited till the moonset.
If the moon is sighted on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi by mistake, then the following mantra should be chanted to avoid false defects –
