अब राजा पृथु ने पूछा–हे देवर्षि नारद! इसके बाद युद्ध में क्या हुआ तथा वह दैत्य जलन्धर किस प्रकार मारा गया, कृपया मुझे वह कथा सुनाइए।
नारद जी बोले–जब गिरिजा वहाँ से अदृश्य हो गईं और गन्धर्वी माया भी विलीन हो गई तब भगवान वृषभध्वज चैतन्य हो गये। उन्होंने लौकिकता व्यक्त करते हुए बड़ा क्रोध किया और विस्मितमना जलन्धर से युद्ध करने लगे। जलन्धर शंकर के बाणों को काटने लगा परन्तु जब काट न सका तब उसने उन्हें मोहित करने के लिए माया की पार्वती का निर्माण कर अपने रथ पर बाँध लिया तब अपनी प्रिया पार्वती को इस प्रकार कष्ट में पड़ा देख लौकिक-लीला दिखाते हुए शंकर जी व्याकुल हो गये।
शंकर जी ने भयंकर रौद्र रूप धारण कर लिया। अब उनके रौद्र रूप को देख कोई भी दैत्य उनके सामने खड़ा होने में समर्थ न हो सका और सब भागने-छिपने लगे। यहाँ तक कि शुम्भ-निशुम्भ भी समर्थ न हो सके। शिवजी ने उन शुम्भ-निशुम्भ को शाप देकर बड़ा धिक्कारा और कहा–तुम दोनो ने मेरा बड़ा अपराध किया है। तुम युद्ध से भागते हो, भागते को मारना पाप है। इससे मैं तुम्हें अब नहीं मारूंगा परन्तु गौरी तुमको अवश्य मारेगी।
शिवजी के ऎसा कहने पर सागर पुत्र जलन्धर क्रोध से अग्नि के समान प्रज्वलित हो उठा। उसने शिवजी पर घोर बाण बरसाकर धरती पर अन्धकार कर दिया तब उस दैत्य की ऎसी चेष्टा देखकर शंकर जी बड़े क्रोधित हुए तथा उन्होंने अपने चरणांगुष्ठ से बनाये हुए सुदर्शन चक्र को चलाकर उसका सिर काट लिया। एक प्रचण्ड शब्द के साथ उसका सिर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा और अंजन पर्वत के समान उसके शरीर के दो खण्ड हो गये। उसके रुधिर से संग्राम-भूमि व्याप्त हो गई।
शिवाज्ञा से उसका रक्त और मांस महारौरव में जाकर रक्त का कुण्ड हो गया तथा उसके शरीर का तेज निकलकर शंकर जी में वैसे ही प्रवेश कर गया जैसे वृन्दा का तेज गौरी के शरीर में प्रविष्ट हुआ था। जलन्धर को मरा देख देवता और सब गन्धर्व प्रसन्न हो गये।

Narad ji said – When Girija became invisible from there and Gandharvi Maya also merged, then Lord Vrishabhadhwaja became Chaitanya. Expressing his worldliness, he became very angry and in disbelief started fighting with Jalandhar. Jalandhar started cutting Shankar’s arrows, but when he could not cut them, he made Parvati of Maya to fascinate them and tied it on his chariot. Went. Shankar ji assumed a fierce form of anger. Now seeing his fierce form, no demon could be able to stand in front of him and everyone started running and hiding. Even Shumbh-Nishumbha could not be capable. Shivji cursed those Shumbh-Nishumbha and said – both of you have committed a big crime against me. You run away from the war, it is a sin to kill the fleeing. With this I will not kill you now but Gauri will definitely kill you. Sagar’s son Jalandhar was ignited like a fire with anger on Shivaji’s request. He hurled fierce arrows at Shiva and made the earth dark, then seeing such an attempt of that monster, Shankar ji was very angry and he cut off his head by running the Sudarshan Chakra made from his feet. With a fierce sound his head fell on the earth and his body was divided into two parts like the mountain of Anjan. The battle-ground was spread by his blood. By Shivagya his blood and flesh went to Maharaurav and became a pool of blood and the brilliance of his body came out and entered Shankar ji in the same way as the brilliance of Vrinda had entered Gauri’s body. Seeing Jalandhara dead, the gods and all the Gandharvas were pleased.
