एक साधुसे हजरत इब्राहीमने पूछा- ‘सच्चे साधुका लक्षण क्या है?’ साधुने उत्तर दिया- ‘मिला तो खा लिया, न मिला तो संतोष कर लिया।’ हजरत इब्राहीम हँसे—’यह तो हर कुत्ता करता है।’ साधुने पूछा- ‘कृपा करके आप ही साधुकालक्षण बता दें।’ इब्राहीमने बताया- ‘मिला तो बाँटकर खाया और न मिला तो प्रभुकी कृपा मानकर प्रसन्न हो गया कि दयामयने उसे तपस्याका सुअवसर प्रदान किया।’

Hazrat Ibrahim asked a monk – ‘What are the signs of a true monk?’ The monk replied – ‘If you get it, you eat it, if you don’t get it, you are satisfied.’ Hazrat Ibrahim laughed – ‘Every dog does this.’ The monk asked – ‘Please tell me the time of the saint.’ Abraham told- ‘If he got it, he shared it and ate it, and if he didn’t get it, he was happy accepting the grace of the Lord that the merciful gave him the opportunity to do penance.’
