यूनानकी बोधपरक लोककथाएँ
यूनान और भारतके सम्बन्ध अत्यन्त प्राचीनकालसे रहे हैं। विश्वकी प्राचीन सभ्यताओंमें यूनान और भारतकी सभ्यताओंकी गणना होती है। सुकरात तथा सिकन्दर के समयसे ही अनेक भारतवासी यूनानकी यात्रा करते थे। लोककथाएँ हर देश और हर समाजके लोकजीवनका अंग होती हैं, भारतकी ही भाँति यूनानकी श्री लोककथाएँ अत्यन्त प्रसिद्ध, लोकप्रिय और शिक्षाप्रद हैं। विशेष बात यह है कि इन कथाओंपर बौद्ध जातकों और पंचतन्त्रका स्पष्ट प्रभाव भी परिलक्षित होता है। यहाँ यूनानकी कतिपय बोधपरक रोचक लोककथाएँ कल्याणके पाठकोंके लिये प्रस्तुत की जा रही हैं-सम्पादक
दुष्टोंके साथ ज्यादा मेल-जोल अच्छा नहीं
एक बार एक बाघके गले हड्डी अटक गयी। ने उसे निकालने की बड़ी चेष्टा की, पर उसे सफलता नहीं मिली। पीड़ासे परेशान होकर वह इधर-उधर दौड़ भाग करने लगा। किसी भी जानवरको सामने देखते ही वह कहता, ‘भाई, यदि तुम मेरे गलेसे हड्डीको बाहर निकाल दो, तो मैं तुम्हें एक विशेष पुरस्कार दूंगा और आजीवन तुम्हारा ऋणी रहूँगा।’ परंतु कोई भी जीव भयके कारण उसको सहायता करनेको राजी नहीं हुआ।
आखिरकार पुरस्कारके लोभमें एक बगुला तैयार हो गया। उसने बाघके मुँहमें अपनी लम्बी चाँच डालकर काफी प्रयासके बाद उस हड्डीको बाहर निकाल दिया। बाघको बड़ी राहत मिली। बगुलेद्वारा पुरस्कारकी बात उठानेपर वह आँखें तरेरकर दाँत पोसते हुए बोला, ‘अरे मूर्ख, तूने बाघके मुँहमें अपनी चोंच डाल दो थी; उसे तू सुरक्षित रूपसे बाहर निकाल सका है, इसीमें अपना भाग्य न मानकर ऊपरसे पुरस्कार माँग रहा है? यदि तुझे अपनी जान प्यारी है, तो मेरे सामनेसे दूर हो जा; नहीं तो अभी तेरी गर्दन मरोड़ दूंगा।’ यह सुनकर बगुला स्तब्ध रह गया और तत्काल वहाँसे चल दिया।
ठीक ही कहा है- दुष्टोंके साथ ज्यादा मेल-जोलअच्छा नहीं।

too much association with the wicked is not good
Once a bone got stuck in the throat of a tiger. Tried a lot to get him out, but he didn’t get success. Distraught with pain, he started running here and there. On seeing any animal, he would say, ‘Brother, if you take out the bone from my throat, I will give you a special prize and will be indebted to you for life.’ But no creature agreed to help him due to fear.
At last a heron got ready in the greed of the prize. He put his long beak in the tiger’s mouth and pulled out the bone after a lot of effort. Tiger got great relief. On being told about the prize by the heron, he said with tears in his eyes and brushing his teeth, ‘You fool, you had put your beak in the tiger’s mouth; You have been able to get him out safely, in this, instead of considering it as your fate, you are asking for a reward from above? If you love your life, then get away from me; Otherwise I will twist your neck now.’ The heron was shocked to hear this and immediately left.
It is rightly said – too much association with the wicked is not good.
