एकान्त कहीं नहीं

दक्षिण भारतके प्रतिष्ठित संत स्वामी वादिराजजीके अ अनेकों शिष्य थे; किंतु स्वामीजी अपने अन्त्यज शिष्य कनकदासपर अधिक स्नेह रखते थे। उच्चवर्णके शिष्योंको यह बात खटकती थी। ‘कनकदास सच्चा भक्त है’ यह गुरुदेवकी बात शिष्योंके हृदयमें बैठती नहीं थी। स्वामी वादिराजजीने एक दिन अपने सभी शिष्योंको एक-एक केला देकर कहा ‘आज एकादशी हैं।

लोगोंके सामने फल खानेसे भी आदर्शके प्रति समाजमेंअश्रद्धा बढ़ती है। इसलिये जहाँ कोई न देखे, ऐसे स्थानमें जाकर इसे खा लो।’ थोड़ी देरमें सब शिष्य केले खाकर गुरुके समीप आ गये। केवल कनकदासके हाथमें केला ज्यों-का त्यों रखा था। गुरुने पूछा- ‘क्यों कनकदास! तुम्हें कहीं एकान्त नहीं मिला?’

कनकदासने हाथ जोड़कर उत्तर दिया-‘भगवन्! वासुदेव प्रभु तो सर्वत्र हैं, फिर एकान्त कहीं कैसे मिलेगा।’

There were many disciples of Swami Vadirajji, a reputed saint of South India; But Swamiji had more affection for his last disciple Kanakdas. This thing used to bother the disciples of the upper class. Gurudev’s statement that ‘Kanakdas is a true devotee’ did not sit in the hearts of the disciples. One day Swami Vadirajji gave one banana each to all his disciples and said, ‘Today is Ekadashi.
Eating fruits in front of people also increases mistrust in the society towards ideals. That’s why go to such a place where no one sees it and eat it.’ In a short while all the disciples came near the Guru after eating bananas. Only the banana was kept in Kanakdas’s hand as it was. The teacher asked – ‘Why Kanakdas! Haven’t you found solitude anywhere?’
Kanakdas replied with folded hands – ‘ God! Vasudev Prabhu is everywhere, then how can one find solitude anywhere.’
