उसके केश और वस्त्र भीगे हुए थे। मुखपर बड़ी उदासी और मनमें अत्यन्त खिलता थी। उसके में जिज्ञासाका चित्र था और होठोंपर कोई अत्यन्त निगूढ़ प्रश्न था।

‘तुम्हारी ऐसी असाधारण सी स्थिति से आश्चर्य होता है’ भगवान् बुद्धने मृगारमाता विशाखासे पूछा। वह अभिवादन करके उनके निकट बैठ गयी।

‘इसमें आश्चर्यकी क्या बात है, भन्ते। मेरे पौत्रका देहान्त हो गया है, इसलिये मृतके प्रति यह शोक आचरण है।’ विशाखाने भगवान्‌के चरणोंमें निवेदन किया, वह स्वस्थ दीख पड़ी।

‘विशाखे ! श्रावस्तीमें इस समय जितने तुम उतने पुत्र-पौत्रकी इच्छा करती हो ?’ भगवान्के मनुष्य हैं, प्रश्नसे श्रावस्तीके पूर्वाराम विहारका कण-कण चकित हो उठा।

‘हाँ, भन्ते!’ विशाखाका उत्तर था। ‘श्रावस्ती में नित्य कितने मनुष्य मरते होंगे ?’ तथागतका दूसरा प्रश्न था ।

‘प्रतिदिन कम-से-कम दस मरते हैं। किसी किसी दिन तो संख्या एकतक ही सीमित रहती है। पर कभी नागा नहीं हो पाता।’ विशाखा इस प्रकारके प्रश्नोत्तरसे विस्मित थी।’तो क्या किसी दिन बिना भीगे केश और वस्त्रके भी तुम रह सकती हो ?’ शाक्यमुनिका तीसरा प्रश्न था ।

‘नहीं, भन्ते! केवल उस दिन भीगे केश और भीगे वस्त्रकी आवश्यकता है, जिस दिन मेरे पुत्र पौत्रका देहावसान होगा।’ विशाखाका अङ्ग-प्रत्यङ्ग रोमाञ्चित हो उठा।

‘इसलिये यह स्पष्ट हो गया कि जिसके सौ प्रिय – अपने (सम्बन्धी) हैं, सौ दुःख होते हैं उसे; जिसका एक प्रिय – अपना होता है, उसे केवल एक दुःख होता है। जिसका एक भी प्रिय – अपना नहीं है, | उसके लिये जगत्में कहीं भी दुःख नहीं है, वह सुखका बोध पाता है, सुखस्वरूप हो जाता है।’ भगवान्ने दुःख सुखका विवेचन किया।

‘मैं भूलमें थी, भन्ते! मुझे आत्मप्रकाश मिल गया।’ विशाखाने शास्ताकी प्रसन्नता प्राप्त की। ‘जगत्‌में सुखी होनेका एकमात्र उपाय यह है कि किसीको भी प्रिय (अपना) न माने, ममता न करे, अशोक और विरज (रागरहित) होना चाहे तो कहीं भी सम्बन्ध न स्वीकार करे।’ तथागतने धर्मकथासे विशाखाको समुत्तेजित (जाग्रत्) किया। उसने सच्चे सुखका बोध पाया। रा0 श्री0 (बुद्धचर्या)

His hair and clothes were soaked. There was a lot of sadness on the face and there was a lot of bloom in the mind. There was a picture of curiosity in him and there was a very deep question on his lips.
‘Such an extraordinary condition of yours is surprising’ Lord Buddha asked Visakha, the mother of deer. She greeted him and sat near him.
‘What is surprising in this, Bhante. My grandson has passed away, so this is mourning behavior towards the dead.’ Visakhane pleaded at the feet of God, she looked healthy.
‘ Visakha! At this time in Shravasti, do you desire as many sons and grandsons as you do?’ Every particle of Sravasti’s Purvaram Vihar was amazed by the question that they are God’s man.
‘Yes, Bhante!’ Visakha was the answer. ‘How many people must have died daily in Shravasti?’ Tathagat had another question.
‘Every day at least ten die. Some days the number is limited to one. But he can never become a Naga. Vishakha was amazed at such a question and answer. ‘So can you live without wet hair and clothes someday?’ Shakyamuni had a third question.
‘No, Bhante! Wet hair and wet clothes are needed only on that day, the day my son and grandson will die.’ Vishakha’s organs were thrilled.
‘ That’s why it became clear that the one who has hundred dear ones (relatives), he has hundred sorrows; One who has a loved one – his own, has only one sorrow. Whose not a single beloved is his own, For him, there is no sorrow anywhere in the world, he gets the sense of happiness, he becomes an embodiment of happiness.’ God explained the sorrow and happiness.
‘I was mistaken, Bhante! I got self-light.’ Received the happiness of Visakhane Shasta. ‘The only way to be happy in the world is not to consider anyone as dear (your own), not to have affection, if you want to be Ashoka and Viraj (dispassionate) then do not accept any relation anywhere.’ Tathagat awakened Visakha with the story of Dharma.
