घट-घटमें भगवान्

लगभग पचास वर्ष पहलेकी बात है। दक्षिण भारतके प्रसिद्ध संत औलिया साईं बाबाने अध्यात्म जगत् में बड़ा नाम कमाया। एक समयकी बात है। वे किसी विचारमें मग्न थे कि सहसा उनके अधरोंपर मुसकराहट थिरक उठी।

‘तुम्हारे पास मन्दिरमें अन्य व्यक्ति भी आते हैं ?’ उन्होंने बड़े प्रेमसे प्रश्न किया अपने प्रसिद्ध शिष्य उपासनी महाराजसे। वे बाबाकी आज्ञासे शिरडीकी सीमापर नदीतटपर श्मशान भूमिके निकट ही खण्डोबाके टूटे-फूटे मन्दिरमें निवास करते थे। वे ब्राह्मण थे, इसलिये द्वारिका माई (मस्जिद) में रहनेमें उन्होंने आपत्ति की। वे नित्य बाबाका दर्शन करते रहते थे। अपने हाथसे भोजन बनाकर नित्य दोपहरको मस्जिदमें बाबाके लिये ले जाया करते थे। साईं बाबाके भोजन करनेके बाद ही अन्न-जल ग्रहण करते थे।

“वहाँ कोई नहीं जाता, बाबा!’ उपासनी महाराजका उत्तर था।

‘अच्छा, कभी-कभी मैं आता रहूँगा।’ बाबाने

महाराजपर कृपा की।

खड़ी दोपहरीका समय था। सूर्यकी प्रखर किरणोंसे पृथ्वी पूर्ण संतप्त थी। महाराज कड़ी धूपमें भोजनकी थाली लेकर गुरुके पास जा रहे थे। अचानक वे मार्गमें रुक गये। उन्होंने एक काला कुत्ता देखा जो भूखसेव्याकुल था। महाराजने सोचा कि गुरुको भोजन समर्पित करनेके बाद ही इसे खिलाना उचित है। वे आगे बढ़ रहे थे कि सहसा विचार- परिवर्तन हुआ; पर काला कुत्ता अदृश्य हो गया।

‘तुम्हें इतनी कड़ी धूपमें आनेकी क्या आवश्यकता थी। मैं तो रास्तेमें ही खड़ा था।’ साईं बाबाके कथनसे महाराजको कुत्तेका स्मरण हो आया, वे पश्चात्ताप करने लगे। साईं बाबा मौन थे।

दूसरे दिन भोजनकी थाली लेकर महाराज ज्यों ही मन्दिरसे बाहर निकले थे कि दीवारके सहारे खड़ा एक शूद्र दीख पड़ा। महाराजने मस्जिदकी ओर 1 प्रस्थान किया। भूखे शूद्रकी ओर देखा तक नहीं। वह गिड़गिड़ाने लगा, पर महाराजको गुरुके पास पहले पहुँचना था।

‘तुमने आज फिर व्यर्थ कष्ट किया। मैं तो मन्दिरके पास ही खड़ा था।’ साईं बाबाने अपने प्यारे शिष्यकी आँख खोल दी।

‘कुत्ते और शूद्र – सबमें एक ही परमात्माका वास है। मैंने उनके रूपमें आत्म-सत्य प्रकटकर तुम्हें वेदान्त प्रतिपाद्य परब्रह्म परमात्माकी सर्वव्यापकताका रहस्य समझाया है। सबमें परमात्मा हैं, प्रत्येकके प्रति सद्भाव रखकर यथोचित कर्तव्यका पालन करना परम श्रेयस्कर है। भगवान् घट-घटमें परिव्याप्त हैं। उन्हें पहिचानो, जानो, मानो।’ साईंबाबाने आशीर्वाद दिया।

It was about fifty years ago. Aulia Sai Baba, the famous Saint of South India earned a big name in the spiritual world. Once upon a time. He was engrossed in some thought that suddenly a smile crept up on his lips.
‘Do other people also come to you in the temple?’ He lovingly asked his famous disciple Upasani Maharaj. By Baba’s order, he used to reside in the dilapidated temple of Khandoba near the cremation ground on the river bank on the border of Shirdi. He was a Brahmin, so he objected to staying in Dwarika Mai (Masjid). He used to visit Baba daily. He used to prepare food with his own hands and take it to Baba in the Masjid every afternoon. Sai Baba used to take food and water only after having his food.
“Nobody goes there, Baba!’ Upasani Maharaj’s answer was.
‘Well, sometime I’ll keep coming.’ Babane
Have mercy on Maharaj.
It was late afternoon. The earth was completely enraged by the intense rays of the sun. Maharaj was going to the Guru with a plate of food in the hot sun. Suddenly they stopped on the way. He saw a black dog who was distraught with hunger. Maharaj thought that it is appropriate to feed it only after offering it to the Guru. They were moving forward that there was a sudden change of mind; But the black dog disappeared.
‘What was the need for you to come in such a hot sun? I was just standing on the way.’ Sai Baba’s statement reminded Maharaj of the dog, he started repenting. Sai Baba was silent.
The second day, as soon as Maharaj came out of the temple with a plate of food, he saw a Shudra standing with the support of the wall. Maharaj started towards the mosque. Didn’t even look at the hungry Shudra. He started pleading, but Maharaj had to reach the Guru first.
‘Today again you have caused unnecessary trouble. I was standing near the temple itself.’ Sai Baba opened the eyes of his dear disciple.
Dogs and Shudras – all have the same divine abode. I have explained to you the secret of the omnipresence of the Supreme Brahman, the Vedanta Pratipadaya, by revealing the Self-Truth in his form. There is God in everyone, keeping good faith towards everyone and performing proper duty is the best. God is pervaded in everything. Recognize them, know them, believe them.’ Sai Baba blessed.
