विचित्र पञ्च

कलकत्तेमें श्रीलक्ष्मीनारायणजी मुरोदिया नामक एक संतस्वभावके व्यापारी थे। एक बार किन्हीं दो भाइयोंमें सम्पत्तिको लेकर आपसमें झगड़ा हो गया और बँटवारेमें एक अँगूठीपर बात अड़ गयी। दोनों ही भाई उस अँगूठीको लेना चाहते थे। श्रीमुरोदियाजी पञ्च थे, उन्होंने समझाया कि एक भाई अँगूठी ले ले और दूसरा भाई कीमत ले ले, पर वे नहीं माने। तब मुरोदियाजीने युक्ति सोची और ठीक वैसी ही एक अँगूठी अपने पाससे बनवायी। फिर, जिस भाईके पास अँगूठी थी, उसको समझाया कि ‘देखो, मैं उसे समझा दूँगा, पर आप अँगूठी पहनना छोड़कर उसे घरमें रख दीजिये ताकि उसको उसकी याद ही न आये।’ उसने बात मान ली। तदनन्तर दूसरे भाईके पास जाकर उसेअपनी बनवायी हुई अँगूठी देकर कहा कि ‘देखो, मैंने तुमको अँगूठी ला दी है, परंतु इस बातको किसीसे भी कहना नहीं। नहीं तो, तुम्हारा भाई अपनी हा समझकर दुःखी होगा । अँगूठीको घरमें रख देना, उसे पहनना ही मत । तुम्हें अँगूठीसे काम था सो मिल गयी। अब इसकी चर्चा ही मत करना!’ उसने खुशी खुशी अँगूठी ले ली और बात मान ली। दोनों भाइयोंमें निपटारा और मेल हो गया। दो-तीन साल बाद जब यह भेद खुला, तब दोनों भाइयोंको बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ और वे अँगूठी लौटाने गये, पर मुरोदियाजीने यह कहकर कि, ‘देखो, मैं आपलोगोंसे बड़ा हूँ और इसलिये मुझे अधिकार है कि मैं अपनी ओरसे आपको कुछ उपहार दूँ’ अँगूठी नहीं ली।

In Calcutta there was a saintly businessman named Sri Laxminarayanji Murodia. Once there was a quarrel between some two brothers regarding the property and in the division the matter got stuck on a ring. Both the brothers wanted to take that ring. Shrimurodiaji was five, he explained that one brother should take the ring and the other brother should take the price, but they did not agree. Then Murodiyaji thought of a trick and got a similar ring made from him. Then, explained to the brother who had the ring, ‘Look, I will explain to him, but you stop wearing the ring and keep it at home so that he does not remember it.’ He agreed. After that he went to the other brother and gave him the ring made by him and said, ‘Look, I have brought you the ring, but don’t tell this to anyone. Otherwise, your brother will be sad considering it as his own. Keep the ring at home, don’t wear it at all. You had a job with the ring, so you got it. Don’t even discuss it now!’ He happily took the ring and agreed. Both the brothers settled and reconciled. After two-three years, when this secret came to light, both the brothers were very surprised and they went to return the ring, but Murodiyaji said, ‘Look, I am older than you and therefore I have the right to give you some gift from my side’ Did not take
