राँका बाँका पति-पत्नी थे। बड़े भक्त और प्रभुविश्वासी थे। सर्वथा निःस्पृह थे। भगवान्ने उनकी परीक्षा करनेकी ठानी। एक दिन वे लकड़ी लाने जंगलको जा रहे थे। पति आगे-आगे चल रहे थे, पत्नी पीछे-पीछे आ रही थी। राहमें किसी चीजकी राँकाजीको ठोकर लगी। उन्होंने देखा, सोनेकी मोहरोंसे भरी थैली खुली पड़ी है। उसे देखकर जल्दी-जल्दी भूल डालकर उसे ढकनेलगे। इतनेमें बाँकाजी आ पहुँचीं। उन्होंने पतिसे पूछा, ‘क्या कर रहे हैं ?’ राँकाजीने पहले तो नहीं बताया, पर विशेष आग्रह करनेपर कहा -‘सोनेकी मोहरें थीं। मैंने समझा, इनपर कहीं तुम्हारा मन न चल जाय; इसलिये इन्हें धूल डालकर ढक रहा था।’ बाँकाने हँसकर कहा ‘वाह, धूलपर धूल डालनेसे क्या लाभ है ? सोनेमें और धूलमें भेद ही क्या है, जो आप इन मोहरोंको ढक रहे हैं।’
Ranka Banka was husband and wife. He was a great devotee and a believer. He was absolutely selfless. God decided to test him. One day he was going to the forest to fetch wood. The husband was walking in front, the wife was coming behind. Ranaji stumbled upon something on the way. He saw, a bag full of gold stamps was lying open. Seeing him, quickly started covering him by mistake. Meanwhile, Bankaji reached. She asked the husband, ‘What are you doing?’ Rankaji didn’t tell earlier, but on special request said – ‘There were gold stamps. I understood, lest your mind wander on them; That’s why I was covering them with dust. Banke laughed and said, ‘ Wow, what is the use of throwing dust on dust? What is the difference between gold and the dust with which you are covering these stamps.’
