माता ने पुत्री से पूछ देखा था। उनकी कन्या इतनी लज्जाशीला थी कि विवाह की चर्चा से ही भागकर कहीं छिप जाती थी। माता ही नहीं पूछ पाती थीं तो भाई कैसे छोटी बहिन से पूछते।
‘वह प्रसन्न होती है छिपकर सुनती है’ माता ने पुत्र से कहा- ‘भगवान वासुदेव में उसकी प्रीति है। ऐसी कौन-सी भाग्यहीना कन्या होगी कि श्रीकृष्ण के चरण पाने का सौभाग्य अस्वीकार करे’
राजमाता श्रुतकीर्ति को और राजकुमार सन्तर्दन को एक क्षण के लिये भी कोई विकल्प कभी नहीं था। कोई सन्देह भी नहीं था कि वसुदेव जी कैकय-नरेश की कन्या का नारियल अपने घनश्याम कुमार के लिये स्वीकार करेंगे या नहीं। यह तो उन्हें अपना स्वत्व लगता था। भद्रा विवाह योग्य हुई और उन्होंने ब्राह्मण नारियल देकर द्वारिका भेज दिया।
श्रीकृष्ण का यह विवाह सम्पूर्ण ब्राह्म-विवाह था। कहीं कोई विघ्न कोई बाधा नहीं आनी थी। द्वारिका से भरपूर धूमधाम से सज्जित होकर बारात निकली। यह पहिली बारात थी जिसमें वसुदेव जी और यदुवृद्ध सम्मिलित होने का सुयोग पा सके। द्वारिका से विवाह के लिये जाने वाली यह पहली बारात थी।
महाराज उग्रसेन महासेनापति अनाधृष्ट और कुछ प्रमुख शूरों को नगर में छोड़ना पड़ा। नगर अरक्षित- सूना नहीं छोड़ा जा सकता था। विवशता थी, अन्यथा श्रीकृष्ण के विवाह में जाने की उत्सुकता किसके हृदय में नहीं थी।
बारात को दूर जाना था। चतुरंगिणी सेना साथ थी। मार्ग में ही स्वागत प्रारम्भ हो गया। सम्पूर्ण विधि से, बड़े उत्साह से सन्तर्दन ने बहिन का विवाह किया। कैकय के राज्य की सर्वश्रेष्ठ मणियाँ, अश्व, गज आदि उपहार में दिये। एकमात्र बहिन का विवाह था- इतनी उमंग, इतना उल्लास जीवन में फिर कहाँ मिलना था। कठिनाई से पर्याप्त समय रुककर तब नववधू को लेकर बारात विदा हो सकी।

मद्र देश नरेश वृहत्सेन सुप्रसिद्ध भगवद्भक्त थे। ऐसे भगवद्भक्त कि उनके साथ भगवच्चर्चा का प्रलोभन देवर्षि नारद को बार-बार उनके यहाँ खींच लाता था। अन्यथा देवर्षि कहाँ किसी के यहाँ बार-बार आने वाले हैं।
देवर्षि आते और उनको तो व्यसन ही एक है- अपने आराध्य श्रीनारायण के गुणगान, उनकी ललित लीलाओं का, उनकी महिमा का वर्णन और अब देवर्षि कहते थे- ‘वे जगत्कारण कारण प्रभु अब द्वारिका में विराजमान हैं’
मद्र नरेश निमग्न हो जाते भगवद-गुणानुवाद श्रवण में। देवर्षि को कहाँ स्वागत सत्कार अपेक्षित है। उन्हें तो श्रद्धालु श्रोता चाहिये। वे इधर-उधर घूमघाम कर प्रायःमद्र आ जाते थे और जब आते थे, जमकर श्रीकृष्ण चर्चा- इस चर्चा से महाराज वृहत्सेन का समस्त परिवार परिपूत होता रहता था।
राजकुमारी लक्ष्मणा मद्र नरेश की एकमात्र पुत्री और इतनी सुन्दर, इतनी सुलक्षणा कि इन्द्र, अग्नि प्रभूति लोकपालों तक ने महाराज से उसके लिये याचना की किन्तु महाराज को सभी प्रार्थी लोकपालों को निराश करना पड़ा क्योंकि अपनी इकलौती पुत्री के मन के विपरीत उसका विवाह किसी से कैसे कर देते वे।
राजकुमारी लक्ष्मणा ने देवर्षि के मुख से बार-बार श्रीकृष्णचन्द्र का गुणगान सुना। जिनके अतिरिक्त त्रिभुवन में दूसरा वर भगवती पद्मा को नहीं दीखा, वही मुकुन्द बस गये राजकुमारी के भी मानस में।
‘वत्से देवाधिप इन्द्र, भगवान हव्यवाहन, जलाधीश वरुण याचना करते हैं तुम्हारी’
पिता ने पुत्री से पूछा था- ‘अब तुम स्वयं विचार करने योग्य हो गयी हो’
‘पिताजी, जब समुद्र-मन्थन के समय देवी पद्मा प्रकट हुई, तब भी सब लोकपाल उनके पाणि-प्राप्ति को लालायित हुए थे’ राजकुमारी ने संकेत में अपनी बात कह दी- ‘भगवती रमा ने जो दोष दूसरों में उस समय देखे थे, वे उनमें में से दूर हो गये अब? उन अब्धिजाने जिन्हें निर्दाेष निखिल गुणगणार्णव माना था, वे अब निष्करुण हो गये?’
‘वे करुणावरुणालय कभी निष्करुण नहीं होते पुत्री’ महाराज वृहत्सेन का स्वर प्रेम विह्वल हुआ- ‘तू धन्य है कि तेरा चित्त उनके श्रीचरणों में लगा। वे तो अब धरा पर द्वारिका में ही विराजमान हैं।’

The mother had seen asking the daughter. His daughter was so shy that she used to run away from the discussion of marriage and hide somewhere. If the mother could not even ask, then how would the brother ask the younger sister.
‘She listens secretly with pleasure’ The mother said to the son- ‘She has love for Lord Vasudev. What unfortunate girl would be such that she would reject the good fortune of getting the feet of Shri Krishna.
Rajmata Shrutakirti and Prince Santardan never had any choice even for a moment. There was no doubt whether Vasudev ji would accept the coconut of Kaikeya-King’s daughter for his Ghanshyam Kumar or not. He used to think that it was his own. Bhadra became eligible for marriage and he sent a Brahmin coconut to Dwarka.
This marriage of Shri Krishna was a complete Brahmin marriage. There should not have been any disturbance or obstacle anywhere. The procession came out of Dwarka with full pomp and show. This was the first procession in which Vasudev ji and Yaduvruddha could get the opportunity to participate. This was the first wedding procession to go to Dwarka for marriage.
Maharaj Ugrasen, the great general, Anadhrishta and some prominent warriors had to be left in the city. The city could not be left unguarded. There was compulsion, otherwise who did not have the eagerness to go to Shri Krishna’s marriage.
The procession had to go away. The Chaturangini army was with you. The reception started on the way itself. With great enthusiasm, Santardan married his sister with all rituals. The best gems, horses, yards etc. of Kaikeya’s kingdom were gifted. It was the marriage of the only sister – so much enthusiasm, so much enthusiasm, where else was to be found in life. After staying for enough time with difficulty, the procession could leave with the newlyweds.
Vrihatsen, the king of Madra country, was a well-known devotee of the Lord. Such a devotee of Bhagwad that the temptation of Bhagavacharcha with him used to pull Devarshi Narad to his place again and again. Otherwise, where is Devarshi going to come to someone’s place again and again.
Devarshi used to come and he had only one addiction – praising his adorable Srinarayan, describing his beautiful pastimes, describing his glory and now Devarshi used to say – ‘The Lord who is the cause of the world is now sitting in Dwarka’.
The king of Madra would have been engrossed in listening to the praises of the Lord. Where is Devarshi expected to be welcomed. He needs faithful listeners. He often used to come to Madra after wandering here and there, and when he used to come, the whole family of Maharaj Vrihatsen used to be full of discussion about Shri Krishna.
Princess Lakshmana, the only daughter of Madra king and so beautiful, so beautiful that even Indra, Agni Prabhuti Lokpalas begged Maharaj for her but Maharaj had to disappoint all the requesting Lokpals because how could he marry someone against his only daughter’s mind. They would have done it.
Princess Lakshmana repeatedly heard the praise of Shri Krishnachandra from the mouth of Devarshi. Apart from whom Bhagwati Padma did not see another groom in Tribhuvan, the same Mukund settled in the mind of the princess as well.
‘Vatse, Indra, lord of the gods, Lord Havyavahana, Varuna, lord of the waters, beg you’
The father had asked his daughter, ‘Now you are worthy of consideration yourself.’
‘Father, even when Goddess Padma appeared during the churning of the ocean, all the Lokpals were eager to get water from her.’ Have you gone away from them now? Those Abdhijans whom innocent Nikhil considered to be virtuous, have now become innocent?’
‘Those Karunavarunalayas are never unmerciful daughter’ Maharaj Vrihatsen’s voice was filled with love – ‘You are blessed that your mind is at His feet. He is now seated in Dwarka on earth.’
