जीवनचरित कैसे लिखना चाहिये

आर्यसमाजके संस्थापक श्रीस्वामी दयानन्दजी सरस्वतीके अत्यन्त निकटके श्रद्धालु भक्तोंमें थे पंजाबके पण्डित श्रीगुरुदत्तजी विद्यार्थी । स्वामीजीके देहावसान के अनन्तर उनके एक दूसरे श्रद्धालु अनुयायीने पण्डित गुरुदत्तजीसे कहा-‘पण्डितजी! स्वामीजी महायोगी थे। आपको उनके घनिष्ठ सम्पर्कमें रहनेका सुअवसर मिला है। आपको उनके सम्बन्धमें विस्तृत जानकारी है। आप स्वामीजीका एक जीवनचरित क्यों नहीं लिखते ?’

पण्डित गुरुदत्तजी बड़ी गम्भीरतासे बोले ‘स्वामीजीका जीवनचरित लिखनेका मैं प्रयत्न कर रहाहूँ। थोड़ा प्रारम्भ भी कर चुका हूँ।’ बड़ी उत्सुकतासे उस श्रद्धालुने पूछा- ‘यह जीवन-चरित कब सम्पूर्ण होगा? कबतक प्रकाशित हो जायगा।’

गुरुदत्तजी बोले- ‘आप यह धारणा मत बनायें कि मैं कागजपर कोई जीवनचरित लिख रहा हूँ। मेरे विचारसे तो महापुरुषोंका जीवनचरित मनुष्योंके स्वभावमें लिखा जाना चाहिये। मैं इसी प्रकार प्रयत्न कर रहा हूँ कि मेरा जीवन स्वामीजीके पद-चिह्नोंपर चले ।’

The founder of Arya Samaj, Shri Swami Dayanandji Saraswati was one of the very close devotees of Pandit Shri Guru Duttji Vidyarthi of Punjab. After Swamiji’s death, another devotee of his said to Pandit Guru Duttji – ‘Panditji! Swamiji was a great yogi. You have got the opportunity to be in close contact with him. You have detailed information about them. Why don’t you write a biography of Swamiji?’
Pandit Guru Duttji said very seriously, ‘I am trying to write Swamiji’s biography. I have already started a little. Very curiously, that devotee asked – ‘When will this biography be completed? When will it be published?
Guru Duttji said – ‘ Don’t make the impression that I am writing a biography on paper. In my opinion, the biographies of great men should be written in the nature of human beings. I am trying to follow the footsteps of Swamiji in my life.’
